This is fraud and deception right there, done by the Ashley Madison CEO
and his team.
A class lawsuit action against them should clean up these fraudsters chiefs
of at least few billions in damages

You're off by 3 zeroes. That's $500,000.
McAfee is a bit of a kook, but I'll accept that he knows more about cyber security than I ever will. That said, some of his stuff doesn't make that much sense. AM was not a big company. It's obvious just looking at the site: it's extremely basic, and they rarely added features. I'd be surprised if the dev staff was more than 3 people. Guessing Mysql for storage with a site of that vintage (2000's) isn't much of a guess. Who didn't use Mysql at that time? It's the M in LAMP. Given that it's a small company, I could see org charts and seating charts being posted in an easily accessible spot.
The fact that they went after source code and that they took MYSQL dumps suggests a good level of tech ability and some serious spite for the target, but "creating a competing site"? You could create a competing site with the core features in a few days. It's not rocket science. It's just that nobody went after that market because it's small and it's yucky and regardless of whether people have morals, they generally like to appear to have some.
His discussion of the psychology behind the attacker is more interesting, but again it's hard to tell with the manginas out there, particularly in tech. They go off a lot on the men on the site and never mention the women, but isn't that the way of the world? Still it seems to me that the main bone the attacker had to pick was the $20 delete fee that clearly was fraud. The fake accounts are all exposed too. Haven't looked extremely closely but it appears that the first few accounts were all female accounts and the wording in their descriptions sets off a bunch of internal BS alerts.
Since the DB has signup dates for all the members, it'd be fun to independently verify Biderman's claim that the day after Valentine's and the day after Mothers' day were the top days for female signups.

Not guaranteed, but much greater than you'd think. I read somewhere that the "hackers" left a big, obvious back door open, making it easier for the FBI and RCMP to narrow their search. Since most hackers are male and the manifesto is so female, it's likely just a pissed off insider who had too much access. It also could have been in combination with a real hacker on the outside to aid in the exfiltration of the data. Throw in the $500 million dollar reward for their capture and makes it unlikely they'll stay anonymous for very long.
Like Thrust suggested, they went too far when they took software and IP along with the rest - this is industrial espionage.
If McAfee was able to narrow it down to inside and a gender, the FBI should be able to figure out the rest. There are not usually lots of females in any given IT dept, but there are some companies with more than the usual. If it was just a female in any of the departments, the size of the company will be the only deterrent. FBI agents are pretty good investigators in general, so they should find her. If she is found her compatriots will likely get snagged as well unless they were not too sloppy in communicating with her. If those guys were smart they would have stopped talking to her after they received all the files, because the FBI used Sabu(sp?) from LulzSec as a snitch to roll on the others undercover.

Breaking news: Deadspin.com is reporting that over 100 ESPN employees signed up for Ashley Madison accounts while at work.
ESPN's writers are the biggest bunch of pandering manginas who never fail to go along with SJW witchhunts and call out men for alleged sexism. I really, really hope some of the Ashley Madison accounts were created by these pompous sports writers and they get hung out to dry.
By the way, I've cited no examples as to the type of editorials they write because I have no links: I stopped reading any sports beyond basic scores. Their articles come off so ridiculously politically correct, they're more like Onion parodies than the real thing.

RE: Ashley Madison hacked - affairs might not be so secret
A cuckolded husband speaks:
http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/relatio...7501204983
Quote:My wife, to put it bluntly, was a cold fish in bed throughout our nearly two decades of marriage, so it was devastating to see her explicit fantasies laid out there so unabashedly. When we were together, she wasn’t into oral stuff, she wasn’t into kinky stuff — but on the site, she checked all the boxes: “I like to give oral,” “I like to get oral.”
Alpha fucks, beta bucks.
Quote:Not too long ago, after years of struggling financially, my software company, with a valuation in the billions, had its IPO. We did very well. We lived in a $1 million dream house on the beach just outside of San Francisco. She could do anything she wanted.
Alpha fucks, beta bucks.
Quote:The only thing S couldn’t do was betray me, but I guess I forgot to be clear about that.
LOL in spite of myself.
Quote:I confronted her. Turns out she had been on dates with at least six men from the site in a matter of weeks. Right around the same time we started counselling, my wife’s friend (who, mind you, is a licensed marriage and family therapist) suggested she sign up for Ashley Madison, whose tag line is, “Life is short. Have an affair.”
Watch your woman's bitches.
Quote:She tried arguing that it would help our marriage, bring some spice into the relationship, and that being on Ashley Madison was a plus: Since everyone’s married, there’s no incentive to expose the other person. It was as though I was talking to a complete stranger, some bohemian. No one I knew would say something like that.
“You shouldn’t judge me,” S said. “You’re seeing things in black and white when there is so much more nuance to it.”
But really, there wasn’t. She was bored with me and wanted to play. It was very simple.
All familiar territory, I know, fellas, but still. At least it sounds like he took the Red--
Quote:Being divorced after nearly two decades of marriage because my wife was cheating on me on a site like Ashley Madison wasn’t the future I had envisioned. Back when we were together, I thought what we had was good. Only in retrospect, now that I’m separated and in a new relationship, do I understand how good it can be. My life is 1,000 per cent better.
Now I understand what love is. It’s when someone appreciates you for who you actually are, and has your back. And when you’re not with them, you feel like something’s missing. And you can trust them with your life.
--ah, shit. No, he didn't. He still doesn't get it.

RE: Ashley Madison hacked - affairs might not be so secret
Some possibly reputable data analyst over at Gizmodo said that basically there were no actual women on the site, and something like 80% of the female accounts there were made once (under Ashley Madison's IP) and never logged in again.
This is consistent with a lawsuit that a former employee of Ashley Madison's made - that she got carpal tunnel or something after having created a thousand fake accounts on the site in 3 months as part of her job.
I won't link the post but it's easy to find on google.
Apparently the gender ratio on the website was ridiculous almost to the point of not making any sense - to the tune of like 90 million men on the site for only about 12k actual women.
If anybody here has ever gotten laid or talked to (in person) an actual women who wasn't a robot that you met from the site you might as well let the general community know, since a dating website scam of this magnitude is pretty unprecedented and I'd be interested to hear if they're going to be held accountable for it.
I can generally see the lack of attraction that this site would have for women, it's not like they'd have a hard time finding dick anywhere.
