Rich liberals don't fear taxes. Rich liberals fear a level playing field. They fear a government that doesn't give them special favors, but instead gives subsidies to those hated flyover states.
Thanks for your explanation KorbenDallas. It makes a lot more sense to me now.
1) Is this happening in all the major industries, or is it concentrated in certain ones?
2) What's the explanation for middle class/upper middle class earners in these cities being liberal then? (most certainly are living off of monthly salary income and not business owners....e.g. Kyle the Democrat who's VP of marketing at some company)
National Review is cyclical. During the height of the "obstruction of justice" nonsense, NR had some really good articles about how the entire thing was a witch hunt and that the Democrats were doing it because they couldn't accept their electoral defeat.
Unfortunately, NR also caved to the fake news media when they breathlessly reported Don Jr. meeting with a "Russian agent."

Rich people do not want to be singled out and labeled. They conform not because they are true believers but because they don't want to lose money.
The right needs to turn this against the left. Identify and shame libtards, boycott their products. For example, I will never eat Chobani again, never will eat Ben and Jerry's, and never pay for a Starbucks either.

It'd also be worth investigating his medical records, because, combined with his dislike for both poor, rural people; his inflated sense of superiority and his vicious hatred of women, this:

I think richer progressives like those found in silicon valley grow up in bubbles. They generally have parents that pay for their college and they live in safe suburbs or gated communities. They don't understand why other people need to compete for resources when all their opportunities are handed to them. Everyone they meet from minorities are similarly educated and they don't know where racist stereotypes originate from.
Then they fall victim to the usual biases. They assume that everyone thinks like them and values kindness and fairness above all other virtues.
If they had to grow up in a competitive environment and work 2 jobs to pay their own way through college, or were bullied by thugs at an inner city public school they might think differently.
She actually thinks the best thing to do is to go and talk to his sons school about it. At what point do these people loose all their balls and think some lame govt workers are actually going to do something productive and helpful for their child's life. If having a conversation trying to see their child's view and understand where it comes from is too difficult why even bother having kids.
Because Gen X now see the government as the good guy with the best interest at heart, because the people in the government is people their age range, their same Gen X people they assume they are good people.

Why do most rich people in big cities (such as NYC or SF) or in the tech industry tend to lean liberal?
My intuition would think that they would be against getting taxed more and against seeing their hard-earned money go towards government waste & welfare.
I genuinely would like to know. I googled it, but most of the articles that came up were written by liberals themselves and don't make many convincing or valid points.
Liberals push for massive regulations which strengths the government and make it hard for small medium business to compete against them. You see big tech corporations loving HB1 visas because they can import cheap labors, Walmart is for minimum 15 wage because they can afford it, but small company cannot.
In places like California and NY is impossible to start a business due to massive regulation, but rich people have lawyers and connected people that allow them to skip all of that.
With regards to locking up Michael Moore, I'd like to say I agree that it's a terrible idea, but is not far off from where we will be soon. Leftists are becoming more and more pro-authoritarian every day. One might argue that as a response, the Right is too. Check out these tweets (read the replies under the first one) to see how leftists are trying to lead society down the path to civil war and authoritarian takeover (whichever side may win).
Look how many likes they have. Leftists WANT a war. They WANT a communist uprising. We should all at least be woke enough to know that by now.

It's hard to start regular businesses, like a restaurant or a factory, due to stringent local and state-level regulations (zoning, fire regs, handicap access etc), but not hard to get a tech startup going, in fact it's easier there for tech startups due to the concentration of VC and the size of the local talent pool.
I think the main answer here is that feeder schools like Stanford and Berkeley are liberal institutions which churn out a SJW mindset and are overwhelmingly liberal. Most of the tech industry is in liberal hotbeds like the Bay Area, Boston or NYC, with liberal feeder schools and liberal local cultures.
A lot of people in tech are oriented toward problem solving. I suppose it feels natural for them to try to fix the ills of the world by "problem solving" reality. Thus, a lot of them are very at home with statist liberal ideology. "Just leave things alone" isn't in their programming. Human nature is just a problem to fix.
The bubble they live in doesn't help, because 1) they become convinced they're much cleverer and more generally competent than they actually are because all they're exposed to is a narrow domain, a domain they happen to be good at (at least, according to their peers) and 2) the echo chamber isolates them from other points of view and experiences. Since they believe something, and all the other "smart people" around them believe that same thing, they are convinced anyone who disagrees is an idiot.
On some tech blog or another a few weeks ago--probably something to do with alternative energy, wind power maybe?--a big chunk of the comment section was a discussion explicitly calling for state controlled eugenics to improve intelligence because right wing people are stupid, hate science, and if eugenics programs aren't started to get rid of the obstructionist idiot right the world will be destroyed by global warming.
Yeah.
I don't get along with most tech people at all, which is unfortunate because I'm a software developer and now, apparently, an IT consultant. I don't mind that they disagree with me about sociopolitical issues, but it's pathetic how many of them can't even handle a challenging discussion.

Not to take anything away from AB's good analysis, but I think it's difficult to distinguish between gamma (which Williamson seems to be, especially in view of his Twitter) and a homosexual.
I think it more likely that Williamson is a gamma, simply because he checks all the boxes.

Something to take in account every time something about Cuba and how great is it, all the data is coming from the government, now, imagine that, the data about the great healthcare in communist Cuba is coming from the communist government itself.

Oh, Gamma is a Heterosexual Dysfunction, but, at a previous job a Gay Superior would fly down from Queensland every so often, and the Imagined Superior Intelligence and Higher Status and his reaction to being disagreed with were very Gamma-ish. Queens take status very seriously: most likely it's a reaction to their societal stigmatisaion.
It was interesting: a person in the know told me he generated the same reaction from gay men as gammas do from women. They'd try to patiently-tolerate his presence, but he was tiresome and creeped them out a little. I found him very wearing myself. It wasn't only that he had the latest conspicuous consumption status object, but that it would always be a super-special-secret one, not available to the public, that he'd only gotten through his close, personal connections within a company. Didn't look any different to any of us.
Either way, Williamson looks ill, and a cursory search reveals no wife and kids in the picture. Which, admittedly, could just be an Unhealthy Gamma.

This medical news might be true, but, eliminating transmission of poverty from mother to child, is another story...
Reminder: air-head Barry shipped a top-technology hellfire missile to Cuba, "inadvertently"
Leftists go as far as shipping weapons of technological wonder, to Cuba...
Maybe mister Session could investigate this strange event, by the way....
How come MSM did not hound Chicago-commie Barry for this incredible "mistake"?
Thanks for the missile, Barry darling, you're a peach:
An inert U.S. Hellfire missile sent to Europe for a training exercise ended up by mistake in Cuba in 2014, in a serious loss of military technology, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday,
In all fairness, healthcare in Cuba is pretty good, but it doesn't mean that there aren't other fundamental problems with their socialist system, like the fact that almost everyone there is a working poor.

edit: GS beat me to it
Are you talking about the healthcare available only to the elite Cuban? then yes, is quit good, but liberals in the USA try to pretend average Cubans get top tier healthcare.
The kind of people that romanticize Cuban is kind of hilarious, just like people that go to a nice hotel in Havana, pay in USA dollar, enjoy nice rum, nice restaurants and fresh seafood and then come back talking how great is it in Cuba.
You know Cuban also had a cow that produced more milk than the entire country of Holland........?

It would breathe life back into the left and trigger their survival instincts, which is something we can absolutely do without. Honestly I don't know why the American people put everything on Trump's shoulders. Someone should quietly find out where Moore lives then get a few mates together and throw him a blanket party using an oversized American flag.
That and Michael Moore's extreme ugliness (both inside and out) is one of the best advertisements possible for being conservative.
Exactly.
What you're missing about Moore is that these comments came out in support of a fucking Broadway production that Moore is producing. His future project is basically another Fahrenheit 11/9 film, this time about Trump. Moore made those comments knowing precisely that they'd get picked up and telegraphed across the entire MSM spectrum, and had anyone done anything about them, it would have given him precisely the publicity he was looking for.
The guy is looking for a similar reaction out of the right as with that Julius Caesar production a month or so back. It is primarily about fat asses on seats and reclicks for him. If Moore was passionate about Trump's presidency he wouldn't be sitting making fake movies. He isn't. He's more interested in money at this point, and after a career of making propaganda pieces he knows what misleading images to put together to amp up credulous young people. At the end of the day, what I call Sabo's Great Rebuke applies to Moore the same as every other leftie: Nobody takes you seriously, because for eight years Obama dropped a bomb every day and you said nothing.
That aside: Moore is too fat and old to lead anything, and his follower psychology is apparent from his physical appearance to the level of his commentary. He's constantly "calling for" revolution and/or insurrection and/or assassination, but have you actually seen him lead anything? Nope, because he's a lot like most leftists: happy to whine about the world but always expecting someone else to do something about it, and woefully incapable when someone steps up to him and says "Okay, would you like to specify the plan?"

Cuba has had a well established primary healthy system for decades now, it is one of the few things they have done right. The system would only work in small developing nation, and can't scale up well. The basics of keeping folks healthyz getting births to term, and minimizing ailments, they perform well. Again, Cuba is no model, but their health system has worked well for them.
Agreed, Leonard - action must follow. Which is why the huge number of sealed indictments, arrests, resignations, 'will not run agains', detoured planes, and damning news releases, are pointing to action being planned and taken.

A Republican lawmaker said they tried to pressure Speaker Paul Ryan to allow a vote on making public a document they say shows Justice Department and FBI misconduct and political bias in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign and whether anyone close to Trump colluded in it.

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said he read the memo and implied there was some sort of bias in favor of Trump's 2016 Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.
"I have read the memo," he tweeted. "The sickening reality has set in. I no longer hold out hope there is an innocent explanation for the information the public has seen. I have long said it is worse than Watergate. It was #neverTrump & #alwaysHillary. #releasethememo."
