But if someone with my knowledge and skill wanted to go on a killing spree, lacking a gun wouldn't stop him. And that's my point.

Who has gone on a baseball-bat killing spree recently? A knifing rampage? Show me the bodies.

Guns allow any coward to kill someone. I venture that a good amount of the idiots who shoot someone would never have the guts to get in a person's face and try to knife them.

You're just putting your head in the sand if you think guns don't make killing people easier. It's a tool, yes. So is a flamethrower, people shouldn't be allowed to have those.

"Oh what, so now law-abiding americans can't flamethrow for fun on the weekends?"

If your grandmother was stomped by a bunch of gang members for her jewelry because...

-she was caught alone
-they had guns anyway
-she was physically unable to combat the threat
-she was outnumbered by law breakers intent on harming her
-no one was there to witness her attackers
-if present, no witness was willing to testify on her behalf

...you'd probably start to see the benefit of gun ownership.

You think your grandma with a gun vs. a bunch of gang members with guns would turn out any way but your grandma dead?

In that scenario, she at least has a chance to fight back a against physically superior attacker.

If you had it your way, you would be victimized yourself by the end of the week by the unlawful.

"Let's get rid of guns to stop violence"
equal to
"Teach rapists not to rape!"

I have no problem with an individual deciding to carry a gun and being legally permitted to do so.

But let's stop with the silly nonsense about how this will reduce violence.

If a criminal doesn't fear spending decades in jail for an armed robbery, he isn't going to fear simply shooting a person in the back and then taking their wallet.

As a single individual, the only time a gun is to your advantage, is when the attacker doesn't expect you to be armed and doesn't take the necessary precautions.

If gun ownership and concealed carry became common, the truly desperate would just take more precautions.

In any armed robbery scenario, the three dudes with guns out are going to win against the one dude (or grannie) with their weapon still holstered.

The only way to really protect against the truly desperate, would be to have an armed entourage.

Once again, I'm a big fan of individual rights and I'm well aware of the fact that those with conceal carried weapons to routinely make a positive impact, when they happen upon situations that require an good guy with a gun.

However, it is absurd to think that having a gun on your person makes even slightly safer when you're facing down an armed group of criminals with nothing to lose.

Your gun will never leave the holster and it'll only increase your chance of getting shot.

You might be an advantage if you are a victim of an unplanned crime of passion. Or you might escalate the situation with someone getting unnecessarily killed.

Either way, it's a huge pain in the ass for the authorities to sort out who is the victim in any classic he said, she said scenario involving guns.

So, by all means, fight for your Constitutional right to carry. But let's stop with the silly suggestions that granny with a .22 is going to somehow outshoot four gangbangers with 9mms at close range. Not going to happen.

I'm the King of Beijing!

LOL!

Everyone is blowing this way out of proportion.

Some fool decides to kill his girlfriend and then murder of couple of cops, and then all the sudden people try to make this out to be a crisis are foolish.

Cops die. Part of the job. Unless these types of attacks become a regular occurrence, there is no need to be concerned or worried about anything. Life goes on.

I have a feeling cops are going to use this as a catalyst to say "see ! everyone is trying to shoot us now !" "We need more rights and less restrictions when dealing with the public!"

Shooting anyone without warrant is disgustingly misdirected, CIVILIAN OR LEO.

A congressman serves one term and gets 100% salary for life.

Which one of out the three makes the least sense?

For those actually thinking about career planning, I want to point out that I believe military don't get any pension until twenty years, setting up a dicey situation where if the want to discharge you after, say 17 years you wouldn't get any pension. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think they do that a whole lot in bad faith, but it's a risk I guess.

In the state I worked in, you were vested after either 5 or 10 years, and got a proportional pension, so that is an advantage of non-military.

A lot of my family have gotten jobs as civil servants, it's one of the last ways the unconnected little guy can get a fair shake.

You know you're getting a decent deal when Forbes is screaming about it, because if there's one thing the rich don't want it's the little guy getting a fair share.

Do they ever publish a complaint about Wall Streeters getting 1,2,5, 20 million bonuses for ONE YEAR of skimming?

NO, I don't literally mean a legal warrant, that's ridiculous.

When I meant without warrant, I meant anyone shooting WITHOUT JUSTIFICATION is disgustingly misdirected.

I heard military is thinking about vesting rights. Most military guys aren't carer and never see the money. Career tends to be officers, but unlike enlisted officers can be let go due to a number of different reasons. I know a captain that had that happen to him.

On that note state/city benefits tend to be better than Federal benefits. Fed has only 2 advantages 1. retire health care nationwide 2. can print money so no bankruptcy worries.

But federal workers don't have real unions(except for postal workers) and benefits can be changed at anytime. State workers have locked in benefits and gov't can't just change things..not without at least grandfathering older workers.

Ironically DE BOZO(lol) has an agenda to make affordable housing and has plan that depends on borrowing from the unions pension plans. The police union should tell him suck balls and give him nothing. This housing would be helping the same people who are protesting and anti cop.

Unlike Detroit (and Cali) NY pension plans are jointly controlled. They can't steal from it like in some other states. And the state REQUIRES all cities to have enough to cover retirement. So they can't one day tell me they don't have it..the minute they retired me(their choice btw) they had to have me covered for my regular lifespan.

We all have our opinions and views shaped by events in our lives.

To those who have been saying fuck the police; respectfully it's ignorant and in pretty poor taste. Gangster or cop, life is still life. Two men lost their lives, and now their kids have no father figure to grow up with all because some other rat thug also had an ax to grind with the police. We talk a lot here about becoming better men. I can promise you that these two cops who who were assassinated possessed virtues that we all talk about. It takes courage, honor, integrity to be a good cop. Qualities that their killer probably would have to look up in the dictionary. They do and see things and take abuse from the public day in and day out that most of us couldn't handle.

RE: Two police officers shot and killed while in patrol car in Brooklyn
I read something that it is ACTUALLY the white liberals that are causing the biggest stir.

From reports of cops on patrol..most of the black and Hispanic community has been quiet. In fact a few cops have reported members being respectful. Some came up to them saying 'thank you'

It is the liberals(mostly white feminists sjw's) who ACTUALLY moved into their neighborhoods and caused rent increases that has made the area un affordable to many, that is stirring the pot.

These cretins proclaim how they love black people and want to stand up for their rights, while at the same time causing rent increases that drive these residents out.

Then the same liberals call the cops when they see homeless blacks who lost their apt's outside of the liberals apt.

It is also the same liberals who constantly call 911 reporting people and giving descriptions of the people that cops stop based on descriptions.
It is a vicious cycle!

Liberals( mostly white) are the ones selling out the minority community! They want to move in and kick them out.

It seems to be exploitation. Reminds me of ROBOCOP 3.

All the above isn't my account personally. It is what cops who actually work in pct's that were mostly minority that have white liberals moving in say goes on.

Law enforcement is like any other field, there are officers who you wish would respond to your call - the ones who get up everyday and want to do some serious good in the world, there are officers who hate their job, hate the people they deal with, and could give a fuck about your problems, and then you have the vast majority somewhere in between.

[Image: picture-normal-distributin-curve-and-graph.jpg]

What's the likelihood of these two officers being quixotic? What are the chances that they were just two guys doing a job? I've never heard of a department that hired anyone who said, "To serve and protect in my community" as the reason they wanted the job.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

It's telling that the media show no responsibility for their role in inciting this violence. Not to diminish personal responsibility here, but the mainstream media use every opportunity to promote hysteria and racial tension. They sure were on top of things back when Snoop and Dre were rapping about 187 on the cops, but now that the shoe is on the other foot, where's the critical reflection and journalistic integrity?

Found some appropriate graffiti on the LES today. Let's hope this attitude prevails over senseless hatred and violence.

^^True but even the ones who hate their jobs have NO CHOICE but to answer jobs and take care of business..dirty work that needs to be done. Low attrition. And they might move up the ranks to a better position to use their skills.

In private industry..those who feel that way will be fired or will leave and go somewhere else and cause same cycle again.

But today with the average person changing jobs every few years one can say MOST hate their jobs today.

Ironically, the most poorly rated occupation in government has the highest attrition rate..TEACHING( I am part of that statistic). So I guess one can assume most leave because they hate their job ad most who stay hate their job lol.(ofcourse there are other factors that cause teachers to do a piss poor job, much out of their control)

How do you know they aren't? I mean those 2 guys specifically!

To the aided cases that got medical treatment because of them..I am sure they are hero's

If they saw the beginning of a fire while everyone was sleeping and radioed FDNY while going inside banging on doors helping people to get out..they are heroes( cops are usually the 1st to the scene for fires since they are already on patrol) without breathing equipment.

If just sitting in the car that day stopped a robber from doing something bad in the area..thy are heroes to the victim that never was( for the record they were parked there for a crime condition, they usually worked in 84 pct downtown Brooklyn)

Being an Asian guy you should realize that Queens NYC is famous for Asian gangs doing home invasions where they tie up the whole family and there has been executions? I AM PRETTY SURE THE COPS ARE HEROES TO THE FAMILIES WHEN THEY ARRIVE AN UNTIE THEM AND EVEN CHASE THE GANG MEMBERS AWAY BEFORE A POSSIBLE EXECUTION.

Better question is what have you done recently to help society? Working in a factory making stuff animals doesn't countWink or getting up early to make egg rolls!(Dunkin donut reference)

Point is we , none of us know exactly what those 2 guys did in their years of service. You might actually be surprised.

In the NYPD the real 'd0-nothings' are usually working inside as 'house mice' or 'house bitches'. One of the reasons many don't respect females on the job..because many of them stay inside most of their career sucking cock but there are guys like that also. They are afraid to actually take risk.

Quote:It's telling that the media show no responsibility for their role in inciting this violence.
Nothing new but today it is worst and in international news as well.

Mass media has been losing revenue for years to online alternative media so they need more sensationalism than ever.

Add in the fact that there is very little investigatory reporting today(or skilled competent reporters who can do it) and you have the 'perfect storm' for a bias corporate controlled media that sells propaganda to the American people. Even worst than RT lol.

They are almost starting WW3 if you read the shit they are telling us about UA crisis (something I know more about then they do) or Syria.

I wouldn't be shocked if 2014 (2013 also due to Syria) was a good year for print media. They have been capitalizing on world events and local anarchy. It sells papers.

I think many of us are even guilty. Lets be honest how interesting was reading a news paper a few years ago? I went a few years without doing so, but since the new cold war I have digested as much news info as I can find. I even went to library again.

People rush out to read about chaos, anarchy and violence.

I only judge them based on my personal encounters.

Have cops ever saved me or my family from gangbangers? No

I am a volunteer at the Humane Society and used to be part of a homeless ministry, but that's beside the point. I didn't call myself a hero.

You're right. We don't know. But I'll stop assuming that most cops are bad when I stop getting harass and they stop presuming that I'm a gangbanger just because I'm Asian.

RE: Two police officers shot and killed while in patrol car in Brooklyn
I don't celebrate when cops get killed, but what's with this assumption that I'm going to run to the police when I have problems? As far as I'm concerned, cops exist solely to record what happened after the fact.

If someone threatens me, sure, if I find it a credible threat I'll file a police report. Not because I expect cops to protect me, but so in case I end up having to injure or kill said threatener in self defense I have the threat on record for legal reasons. You know, in case the state decides to charge me with a crime after the fact.

If I have something stolen, or I get in a car accident, fine the cops can come make a report for insurance reasons. Even then I've never called the cops to report when shit got stolen, because I know they won't recover it and I wasn't going to make an insurance claim.

I avoid contact with police as much as practical. The reality is I fear the government and police far, far more than I fear criminals. Police can destroy my life utterly on a whim and I have very little recourse if they do.

What's a criminal going to do, try to hurt or kill me? Big whoop. That's why I know how to fight and carry a gun.

Quote:Have cops ever pulled me over, talked down on me like I'm some scum, and ran my information just because I'm Asian and drove a Honda? Yes

Ok whatever...where the fuck do you live btw?

In NYC Asians have a pretty good reputation . I haven't met many who were unlawful, but I am a bit biased my sister in law is Chinese and she has a big family.

So I don't get the line over for driving a Honda thing. Here half of NY drives Nissan, Toyolta or Honda. So perhaps is more of the attitude of where you live?

That being said..think logically for a second. Use me for an example. I don't get paid more if I harass someone or if I spend 8 hours in the bagel store( NYC we eat bagels.not donuts) so for me to harass (not really harassment) some one it has to be 2 reasons:

1. I am NOT really harassing them. They did or maybe did a crime There is a VICTIM who described what looks like that person so of course I need to investigate. It is your FELLOW citizen who is making the report, NOT the cops. So stop looking like a banger thug if they are being accused in your area often. But remember it is a REAL person making the report!

2. You did a violation. Funny thing about violations is that they are NOT MANDATORY. It is the cops discretion how they deal with it. Ticket, warn and admonish , even ignore. But in ALL cases you were observed doing it (or your vehicle) and cop has right to GET you for it.

Majority(unless your a quota stop..then you need to just accept it) of these stops can end in your favor if you answer respectfully and take responsibility.

Obviously saying you did nothing wrong isn't going to get you off the hook. Say' sorry officer (make a good excuse) and say you will be careful and it will never happen again. They can now check to see if you are a careless repeat offender.

Now do you see the only 2 common ways cops can Fuck with you?
#2 you are wrong. # 1 you might be guilty or NOT but obviously they have to check.

Now understand there are quotas. The gov't lies if they say otherwise. But here is the fact: cops and the union hate quota's. We have gone to court for years fighting them.

And every time the gov't/courts have kind of played games. They say the city is allowed to have PRODUCTIVITY OBJECTIVES. In other words there are quota's. I have seen bosses go out and pick people to write if the cop doesn't bring it in. They have no choice.

But in reality cops are still writing guys who are ACTUALLY doing stuff that deserves tickets..or at least in a big city they are. Maybe in a small town they actually are corrupt and make shit up , I don't know but trust me in NYC we can find enough folks breaking the law for real. Plus they don't have to write many. I only needed 10 a month. Does that seem like a lot? Sucks for the 10 who get one though but , again, they did the violation. I didn't make it up.

My wife got one, my sister in law got a few. Some rookies will write their own mother lol.

But we still hate quota's because it takes away our discretion and we are forced writing people who made a mistake but we under normal circumstances, would just give a warning.

I know guys who actually use to give tickets and put celebrity names on it so that the person wouldn't have to pay. I even heard of guys, usually old timers from the old days, putting names off tombstones on the tickets.

See the problem? They try to do right by the civilian and they are committing a violation themselves or they go by the book and write you but seem inflexible. You can't win!

RE: Two police officers shot and killed while in patrol car in Brooklyn
It was when I was living in California.

And no, I didn't do anything wrong. I was being racially profiled. The bullshit excuse he gave me after realizing I had a clean record was he wanted to make sure the air freshener I had hanging from my rearview mirror wasn't blocking my vision. It was one of those tree air freshener you can buy from Wal-Mart. How is that a violation?

He assumed I was a gangbanger, and when he realized he was wrong, he gave me a bullshit excuse.

I'm white and once got a written warning for an air freshener "blocking my view" and no front plate.

Was I profiled?

LOL..NOT sure. California has strange weird laws I hear. I heard Plasma tv's were illegal once( not sure if it is true).

But your right if they aren't looking for someone that fits your description and/or you aren't wearing gang colors he had no reason to stop you. But remember he could also be keeping the truth from you.

In NYC in the subways we are allowed to racial profile since it is MTA property and we have caught multiple nervous Arabs who looked like they were staking out the train station.

Because of that( and unknown to most) we caught 2 Al Qaeda members who had maps that they were drawing up when we caught them. One was a cousin of Bin Laden.

Point is sometimes there is a reason behind the stop that isn't articulated. But in both cases the guy looked suspicious (roaming around , loitering, sneaking around, sweating under a heavy jacket in the summer, writing on a map). So maybe not a good comparison.

Funny thing about racial profiling..I SUPPORT IT. NOT as a cop..but common sense because under counter terrorism training we had Israeli instructors and they point blank told us that our political correctness nonsense will get us killed one day.

In Israel they search the guys who look like terrorists. In US because of PC they search people randomly. In other words they might search every 5 th person. So the old Chinese lady who is 80 gets search and the Arab guy named Bin Latin (lol) with a bulge the size of a handbag goes though, no questions ask. It makes no sense. In fact the TSA will avoid purposely the terrorist looking guys lol.

So being a anti feminist minded forum I am sure most here agree that PC can go to far and needs to be balanced with reality!

Anyway back to the main thread. Basically if you are following what happened you will see that the politicians who make the rules, quota's, skim the money and are in control are using this tragedy to get air time to further their own agenda to stay in power and get more power. Maybe things will change when you start going after the politicians? Booth assassinated Lincoln NOT 2 NYPD cops.
