Better yet, if you have android / iphone the latest version of google maps lets you save maps offline for future use. The area is big enough to cover any major city.

bought a ticket for cebu. Booked a place in Lapu Lapu city for 4 nights at 48 bucks a night. It's right on the water. A girl may come with me who's smoking hot and I haven't slept with. If she doesn't go I've got some pretty good prospects through pipelining.

After those 4 nights I'm supposed to meet this 30 year old chick from Indo who got a room at a resort. She's hot in her photos and wants me to stay with her for a week. I'm not doing that but I told her I'd come meet her.

So yesterday I was browsing through Airbnb when I came across a decently priced place to stay. When I clicked on the ad though, the guy had snuck in a 48 dollar cleaning service.

I messaged the guy exactly "48 dollars for a cleaning service in the phillipines? Come on man.."

What I got back was this:

"I've got to pay someone to clean the stains off your sheets and skid marks off the toilet. I've also got to pay electric and water as well as the mortgage. Sheesh what a cheap skate you are!!"

This was an odd thing to say to me since he's bitching about his mortgage et al but says the cleaning service is 48 bucks. So basically it's a rip off and I tell him so:

"You're profiting by paying a Filipina 500 pesos and pocketing the rest and I'm the cheapskate. Sorry mate, it's the principle of the matter for why I wouldn't pay you a dime."

His reply:

"I pay her the full amount plus I pay for the cleaning products and her transport coz that's her only source of income. Your a bit of a smart arsenal who would not know shit from clay."

Me:

"Ouch pete. Truly that hurts. Luckily I'm not a potter and I only have to be able to tell a shit deal when I see one. Spare me the sob story. If you can't afford cleaning products I pity you. Good luck."

I'm thinking that the end of it. "The guys a dick. Oh well"

No. It doesn't end there. This guy goes off!

The last message is this:

Using AirBnB in Asia is a crap shoot.

The last place I booked was a cheap studio in BKK at roughly 10,000 baht for a month.

On AirBnB it clearly states that this price is all inclusive, fees and everything.

So I show up and the Indian dude running the building informs me that I have to pay a security deposit.

Uh, no dude. I'm not paying you jack shit. You set forward terms, took my money and now you're demanding more? I'll shit all over you on the AirBnB review and personally fuck you up.

Then he was all smiles and apologies. "No problem! No security deposit for you."

Then a week later he tells me "By the way, you'll have to pay for the water and electric at the end of the month."

I wound up moving into the place because it's cheap and in a central location but I had to negotiate like crazy just to get a 1000 baht off the monthly price. Want Wifi? Extra 500 baht a month. Want a fridge? Extra 500 baht a month? Want a T.V...? You know how much it is.

I like a lot of things about Southeast Asia but they way they do business here is just whack. They turn on their practiced, toothy grins, say all sorts of sugary things and then proceed to bend you over like a preop ladyboy.

On the other hand, if you get in some trouble, money will save your ass. I guess it's the same in the US, but the amount of money you'd need to get out of a bind is orders of magnitude higher than in SEA. Not a bad deal if you're the kind of person that trouble always seems to find.

^My grandfather had a similar thought process on using money to get out of binds. It was the reason he said he loved the EE and why he originally bought land in Pakistan. Rampant corruption allows you to get out of binds in those places which in the States would fuck you as well as your career over for life.

In this part of the world, it's senseless to develop your own sense of oneitis, especially when your competition is someone who is well connected.

I understand that you've been developing a new sense of self, but rationalize, and perhaps let it go.

Good luck is a good response in that situation. And who knows, maybe the guy has bigger connections to offer you. He clearly sees you as a threat to his own girl, so he knows you're a force to be reckoned with. See if you can parlay the situation to your advantage.
