RE: The Philippines thread
^^ Great report Dipar. Much appriciated.
I wish you wrote that a few months ago!

Damn, I definitely have some unfinished in the Phils.
I really wanted to check out that place.

Can you also break down when it's best time to go and the weather? ( If you wanna surf)
I guess there are different times good for surfing when the waves are big, and different time when the weather is nice?

That was what I hesitated most about going there in Jan/Feb.
No matter who I asked or where I read, people gave me very different answers.

One said the weather is excellent, the next one said it's the worst time of the year and so on.

It depends on your level of surfing experience and your perception of 'good'.

If you're a beginner it doesn't really matter when you go because you can't surf lol. You'll need months of daily surfing to even begin to care about 'ideal surfing conditions'.

However, you probably don't want to go May-July because it's flat and there might not be any surfing at all.

Here's a quote from a Cloud 9 resort on the conditions that me and my friends agree with:

Quote:Generally, the best months for surf in this area are August through to the beginning of November. This is when we get the most typhoon swells and the best winds. During Mai, June, and July, the surf is generally smaller. BUT when it's on the conditions are ideal. A bit of a gamble at this time of year though. From December to April the winds are often strong and cross shore, BUT the swell is always pretty big and some surfers prefer this time of year.

Here are my thoughts on it:

Best season for surfers (those with 300+ days in the water experience): Mid August to Mid Nov
Why? This is typhoon season and Siargao will pick up swell from that WHILE getting offshore winds. Swell plus offshore winds = ideal surfing conditions (this is the same more or less the world over. Always look for this combo). This is when experienced surfers from all around the world come to Siargao. It's also when ti's the most packed with guys that rip. This season is when the contests are held which should tell you that it's the best season for surf.

Second Best Season Dec-Apr: strong, consistent short period swell but plagued with on shore wind and frequent rain. If you're not experienced you won't know the difference. But if you're experienced you'll be disappointed in the wind conditions. I have friends that live in Siargao that actually go to a place in Northern Mindanao during this season because the wind conditions are better there. It's unfortunate because the swell is consistent but winds are not ideal. If you're a beginner you can go this time and get some practice in.

You can still score in this season but it's risky. As an exp surfer I would not risk it and rather hit a place with ideal wind conditions. I like clean surf. Nothing like razor edged off-shore days. In this season can sometimes get these conditions but it's much rarer.

Apr-Aug: flat season. This is dive season on Siargao with an occasional pulse for waves. When there are waves it's good conditions because of light winds so the surface conditions can be glassy and smooth.

Surfing is fickle, Chaos. Even during season conditions can be hit or miss and off seasons can turn on.

That's why we say stuff like 'the season has be good' or 'this season has been shit'. Same goes for snowboarding, etc.

Taking surfing advice is like taking advice with girls. What is the person's experience that's providing the advice? Then take it from there.

In general the big bummer about Philippines surfing is the lack of consistency. It simply does not have the consistency as a Costa Rica, Mexico or Bali in terms of consistent ground swell PLUS ideal wind conditions. But when it's on here, it's as good as either of those places.

@ Chaos

Global Surfari by Mark Richards is the go to book for world wide surfing. It also lists the most consistent waves in the Philippines as November through February at Monaliza Point, Luzon. There are several good breaks listed on Mindanao on the northern islands that are supposed to be good from July through November (typhoon season so results vary). If you want, send me a PM and I'll scan the Philippines pages and send them to you.

Yeah, Mona Liza is a fun right point. But man, the consistency that side of the island is bad. You have to watch the forecast to make sure there's swell.

I love MR and even owned one of his boards, but I have to disagree with that book. The Pacific side of Luzon is FAR more consistent than the South China Sea side. Take a look right now between the two areas on Magic Seaweed. Also, the period is always shorter so the waves don't have the juice. But there are super fun waves that side of the island when it's on.

Baler is the most consistent surf spot in Luzon with the surf really never falling below 3ft Sept-Apr.

Boots on the ground are always better than any book!! I bought it for $4 on the clearance rack. I started surfing when Endless Summer was released and quit when I moved away from the east coast two decades ago. The only time we had good waves was chasing the swell behind hurricanes when they left good offshore winds. I could sit and watch you guys rip all day. I could probably still ride a long board if I could find a rip to carry my old ass out there!

RE: The Philippines thread
Are all these stories true or what?

Some of the commentaries about Filipinas on this website are pretty accurate. Some are straight up mental. I mean I do see how people back there are pretty liberal and impressionable.

(02-26-2015 05:01 AM)mindanao Wrote:  I should also make note that not all of them you meet from there are Muslim. Some are catholic too, but similar personality common to the region. but people from the Philippines that know me do know I am interested in Cotabato region as a kind of Adventure. It is a very interesting experience. You just have to be careful, but can still enjoy the cultural experience. As Enigma said, I was there in the past when it was peaceful period. So of course I have a good opinion on it. I was lead to believe that things were getting better and better, but only this year, things suddenly took a wrong turn there. Now with the resurgence of violence, the area might need to lose attention for a time. Until it returns to the peace from the past. I swear to the bible that Sultan Kudarat has the most spectacular beaches in all the Philippines and I told people from Canada I was getting ready to go there. Maybe after the violence is gone and I come back to the Philippines, I can go and experience it. Mindanao is the first place I will choose to go when I com back there. I don't "advocate for terrorist regions" wait till the violence is gone and then try unspoilt safe places or wait to find people from there in Davao. That aside, anywhere I know in Mindanao is safe, I will go. I have never felt threatened even once walking in any kind of place and I actually never felt at home in so many parts of a big region like I do in Mindanao.

I have one more thing to point out though. Someone I know in Luzon corrected me saying Mindanao was actually an archipelago. I do believe they are correct, but they also said it was only that and that Mindanao is not an island, just archipelago. Can anyone verify this? I am pretty sure that Mindanao is both of them and refers to the archipelago and the main island itself which can be ALSO called "island of Mindanao"

I stand corrected. The Philippines has 7,107 islands. Mindanao is an island group. It's not archipelago. Sulu is an archipelago on the other hand.

Anyway if anyone's curious, mindanao (aka IloveJaneandFinch) panicked when he got slammed on another website for funding his sexual pursuit with his Ontario disability income. Sorry bro but you dissed Drake and you kept one upping me with your fables.

Oh god... I hope that's not a trend...

Speaking of god, I see there's been some talk about Filipina's and their devotion to religion in the past couple of days I've been away (Had some friends from Germany who came to visit me, took 'em around San Francisco...)

I was born Catholic in the Philippines. You have very little choice when you're born over there... The Philippines is one of the most (if not the most) Catholic countries in Asia. It is so infused with religion, it's nuts when you look at it from an outsider's perspective. I have long since moved on upon reaching the Age of Enlightenment, and am now calling myself Apatheist (Apathy + theist) meaning I don't care whether there is a god or not, that I choose to focus instead on the things that matter to me instead of the debate on "his" existence. Anyhow, the Pinay will usually on some level be religious, as it is taboo over there to be overtly atheistic or anti religious.

Does this really matter? Well, the short answer is, yes on the surface. The more religious she is, the more time she will spend in church, praying, doing charity work and the more her morals and values will be telling her not to fool around. This time of woman leans more towards the LTR material scale.

However, despite all of this, I don't believe that any amount of religion can alter the basic physiology of a woman. Bad boys will still give her 'gina the tingles no matter how much she covers up and carries around the good book. The thing you have to be aware of is that she needs to have plausible deniability so that the rest of her society does not treat her like an outcast. She cannot be seen in public acting like a slut, and so it is your job to isolate her and solve her vaginal needs. Which you will, because goddamnit, you are true RVFer and it is your calling.

I've thought about that. Almost all of the Filipinas I've been with have been religious. Partly it's a social thing, particularly because the churches are focus points for Filipinos working in places like Dubai, Doha, or Cairo. But they really do seem to internalize religious belief and want you to believe, too. It is a little like Thai women dragging you into the Buddhist temple to make merit before they fuck you.

Among the Filipinas, I prefer the Catholics, just because it's traditional and not too intrusive on their lives in the way that the evangelical churches like Iglesia ni Christo are. Those churches are pretty cult-like; Filipinas in Cairo will spend eight hours a week of their limited free time in the evangelical church.

Yeah, I know all too well exactly what you're talking about. Iglesia is batshit crazy and waaaaay too intrusive into their personal lives. Their members cannot consume anything with caffeine and in order to marry, insist that you must adopt their religion. In a third world country like the Philippines, they certainly don't have slim pickings. It's easy for people living in poverty to be part of a cult that tells you there are better things waiting for you after all the sufferings of this life. They gobble that up, hook, line and sinker. Those who aren't poor, will use religion to prey on the poor and maintain their status quo. Sure, "not everyone is like that", but it is ingrained in the culture and not seeing it in that way is usually a conscious choice. At best, it gives the Pinoys/Pinays something better to hope for. The typical Pinoy advice for someone going through tough times: "Just pray."

It is pretty whack to see the huge Iglesias being built in the poor barangays of Manila and think of the money being kicked out by the poor to do that. I told my main girl that, and if she ever became an evangelical I'd break up with her. At least the Catholic Church made its money off of slavery in the mines and plantations of the Spanish Empire hundreds of years ago and now is reversing the flow more into charity from rich places to poor places.

I'm glad the Pope got his ass to the PI to stop the bleeding of Catholics into the Iglesia. Anyone from the Vatican reading RVF, tell him.

I've heard the "just pray" thing several times. Also, "God be with you." It does make these girls better long term bets.

Interesting quandary.

Could it be:

1) using the same picture, or a picture recognizable as the same person? There may be human screening and someone's taken a dislike to you.
2) Are you using a string that is common among the names? ( Bigstrong11, IAMBigstrong)
3) Could it be they are blocking white guys signing up from within Philippines?

5) Certain neighborhood grouping of IPs like in Makati?

They're actually doing the opposite, cutting down on white guys signing up OUTSIDE the Philippines. Which is a good thing, since most of those guys were never coming here anyways and just inflating these girls' egos to unrealistic levels (or just sending them a bunch of perverted shit).

DIA was absolutely awful a year ago, but it's leveled out quite a bit since then.

Could it be that you are using a profile text that is similar to the one you used for an earlier profile of yours that got blocked? I had the same issue once and I found out that they check your profile description with the descriptions from users who got blocked.

Wow, I was wondering why I suddenly seemed to get way more responses than I used to.. starting just after Valentine's day.

I thought being single during Valentine's day pushed the girls to make more moves with older less YoungTallCool guys during the last few weeks...I wonder if what you're saying is the cause--there's just a shortage of guys now.

How did you figure this out though?

How did you figure this out though?

Trying to sign up for another account.

When I first came to Davao, DIA was almost useless. Even as a young, fairly attractive guy I could barely get replies to my messages and girls would rarely initiate, send interest, or even view my profile. It was night and day compared to FC, etc.

So I started going really aggressive. I would open with stuff like "have you ever been with a white guy?". If they said no, I'd tell them they should try, it's good, etc. and keep going with the innuendo. Some girls I'd just straight up say white guys have bigger dicks Laugh

Needless to say, ended up getting banned.

Decided to make another profile a few months ago and had to jump through a bunch of hoops. It seems they ban by IPs rather than accounts now and will make you verify your account by text if you're using a non-Phil IP. They won't let you sign up twice with the same phone number or e-mail either. I've actually signed up for a couple other accounts (deleted one because my girlfriend at the time made me tard and forgot the password to another) that's how I know they don't make everyone confirm via text.

You're also required to have a picture now.

It's definitely not impossible for non-US guys to sign up, but it's a lot bigger pain in the ass now.

And suddenly I get tons of views/interest and the majority of my messages get replied to.

They've also been making a bunch of other little improvements. For instance, I used to have to search separately for 'Davao' and "Davao City' because it went off exactly what they girl had written in for her city. But now the search operates a little more intuitively.

Really? I can see how subscriptions to these dating sites from dudes overseas could be a big business. Many chicks are looking for such opportunities and many are also encouraged to do so from their families.

Something like 10% of the Filipino economy is from remittances from abroad. Its just part of the culture here. Many whom I talk to have family overseas sending cash back home and taking care of the family. One third of the population is under the age of 15 and the population here is set to double (100m to 200m) in the next 30 years. While the economy is growing, its not going to be able to sustain such a huge population so many girls will be left 'economically challenged' as they call it.

Bottom line is, I predict this trend of chicks looking for escape options overseas is set to continue. If I owned a dating site I would capitalise on this.

My god, I am in a sea of girls just turning 18... how awful... those poor girls know nothing about the holy truth of feminism...and how heroic it is to worship money and not have kids...it's just a terrible tragedy.

DIA is completely free, there are _some_ads. Must be a CIA plot.

Yeah, it's still growing somewhat fast here, but the birth rate is declining and it seems unlikely the population will ever double.

The percentage of 18-25 year old girls per captia is as high as it will ever be right now I bet. The average age is 23 but will rise rapidly over the next 30 years.

Here are the estimates:

Good article on this subject that talks about the 'graying' of the Filipino population too if anyone is interested: http://www.rappler.com/nation/64684-ph-p...llion-2045

Regardless, the ratio of young women is still far better than any Western country.

As IKE pointed out, DIA is completely free.

They don't benefit at all when the guys who are actually in the country or have concrete plans to come can't even get a girl's attention because she's being spammed with propositions for sex from across the globe by profiles that don't even have a picture up. And the only girls who benefit are the ones suckering guys for cash online, which is why the overall quality on DIA (both attractiveness and attitude) is considerably lower.

The paid memberships don't have the same problems a free site does, because they automatically screen the guys who aren't serious and keep people on their best behavior since no one wants to be banned from a site they paid $30/month for.

RE: The Philippines thread
Fort Vs Greenbelt
Hey guys, I fly to Manila in 9 days and I am looking at two condos, both look great, near perfect reviews and have all amenities that are important to me. I cant decide between the two so figure location should be the deciding factor. One is in Geenbelt, other in Fort. I am leaning to Fort for the easier access to higher end nightclubs and assume this means higher end women?, but like the greenbelt for centralization of the city. Do you guys have any recommendations between the two locations? I will be partying and day gaming. I was going to book before I fly but I am almost debating to just wait until I get there to visually check the two out but they are first come first serve so I could miss the amazing opportunity. Advice would be much appreciated.
