RE: The Philippines thread
I haven't been to the Philippines for almost twenty years, but I do have a great love of that country. I flew into Manila from Seoul after being bumped up into first class (it pays to wear a coat and tie when you fly!); Manila is pretty nasty, so get out of it quickly, if you can, although the people are very kind and you can drink and eat well on a budget. Enjoy some prawns along with San Miguel beer and Tanduay rum.

To get out of Manila, get to the Centerpoint Hotel and get a bus to Batangas Port, from there you get the boat to Puerto Galera. Get a jeepney (those colorful trucks) to Sabang Beach. Sabang is nice. It's very relaxed and has a good nightlife scene.

Should I start looking at dating websites now, or leave it for a bit? Some mates have suggested looking now as they had a bit of success doing this. Probably going to Cebu and I'll be there for at least 2 weeks.

Cheers.

I suggest around a week before departure get tinder plus and swipe away. You should be able to get a decent match rate. Same with OKC, just pretend your in manila already

Since when is a girl popping open a bottle and downing birth control pills like flintstone vitamins a sign that you shouldn't be concerned?

Ill be back in Manila next month.
If anyone is interested in teaming up to game high end girls let me know via pm.

I am well practiced at picking up upper-middle class girls... wanting to try my hand at elite/models/starlets this time.

Filipina girls blowing up my viber. I'm inviting all of them to come visit me in the states. Should be interesting to see who comes.

Have this uber rich girl who is going to shop during day and hang w me at night.

Couple upper middle class girls that want to come see me.

Few more middle class girls that I could basically fly out anytime to other countries.

It's somewhat Mindboggling how slutty these girls are

By the way, French most-read main-stream media (le Figaro) is already comparing Duterte to D. Trump, and predicting his victory.

I can see some comparisons between these two alpha-males. For example, both advocate for a very tough line against terrorism, and in their personal lives, and if I'm not mistaken, both usually carry a gun and stated that they would use it against any criminal threat. Alpha leaders indeed!

RE: The Philippines thread
I haven't been following the elections but decided to read CNNPhilippines today. Maybe it's just anti-Duterte media but some of the things that are being claimed that he's said are shocking.

* When Australia and the US admonish him for his rape comment he tells then to shut their mouths and threatens to cut off all ties with them.

* Saying he'll kill 5 criminals/week and give police orders to shoot criminals on-sight. (This is just insane)

* Saying he'll close the Congress down so they can't impeach him.

* I understand he despises drugs and drug users, but I don't think the answer to is murder people who do drugs. When I was a teenager I did drugs. I'm not sure how law-abiding families will react when their child is killed in cold-blood for doing drugs.

He seems to have a very reactionary, short-temper. The more I read about things he's said, the more I think he truly will be a very heavy-handed dictator.

He may drive out the criminal element from big cities, but there's a chance they will spill out into the suburbs and provinces, band together and then you have a new type of organized rebellion taking over large swaths of land.

Naturally I'm skeptical of what the media says about candidates like Trump and Duterte - a lot of things they say are taken out of context or even twisted to further their own agendas. If Duterte really did say and mean those things, it will be interesting to see whether the Philippines will remain welcoming to Americans. Duterte does want foreign investment, and it would be foolish to completely sever ties with the US and other western countries... but somehow, I think he's too smart for that.

From what I've heard from old ex-pats and what I've read, Duterte doesn't like America at all. This Article attempts to posit an explanation for it.

Quote:Duterte’s anti-US stance, which has endeared him to left-leaning activists but made other sectors wary of him, dates back to May 16, 2002, when a bomb went off at Hotel Evergreen in Davao City.
Police investigators traced the bomb to American Michael Meiring, who was injured in the explosion and was taken to a hospital.
Police brought criminal charges against Meiring, but weeks later, alleged agents of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation spirited the American out of the hospital, flew him to Singapore and eventually to the United States.
Duterte was furious and he had since been accusing the United States of running covert operations against Moro rebels in Mindanao.

This excerpt implies Duterte values foreign investment from China, but maybe not so much from the US.

Quote:In another warning to the United States and Australia, Duterte’s camp signaled it was prepared to change foreign policy and start direct talks with China over the territorial dispute in the South China Sea.
President Aquino has been improving defense ties with the United States and Australia to bolster the Philippines’ position in its territorial dispute with China.
But Duterte’s spokesperson Peter Laviña said in a television interview on Thursday that the mayor would be prepared to talk directly with China.
President Aquino has refused direct talks with China over the territorial dispute, preferring multilateral discussions and challenging China’s sweeping claims in the South China Sea in the United Nations Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
Laviña said Duterte was “supporting multilateral efforts to rein in China but at the same time, added the mayor was open to bilateral talks.”
He said Duterte was willing to dialogue with China about “joint development of the resources of the South China Sea.”
“Eventually, we need China’s investments and technology,” he said.

There isn't any doubt in my mind the Philippines will become a dictatorship again if he's elected. One that has a heavy-hand, short temperament, full of bravado/nationalism/isolationism, and doesn't like the US.

Duterte will have much more power than he had before.

I don't think it will turn out well for the US. Will it affect foreigner's like us? I suspect nightlife all around the country will end at 1am and there will be no smoking outside.

Will it affect US Visa's? Maybe.

I don't know how the Philippines was under their last dictator, Marcos, but Marcos was friendly with the US.

I booked a flight to Manila and I'll be touching down on June 7th/8th. I'm still working my way through this incredible thread to try and plan everything out, but I'd like to thank everybody for their contributions. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions, but for now I just want to express gratitude.

Duterte is not an idiot, or maybe im hopeful. He's not gonna cut ties with the US, he needs a counter to China's increasing influence in east asia, whether he likes China or not.

Now the visa transplant might be fixed probably max stay 1 year or 6 months in a year like more developed countries use.

Having nightlife shut down earlier means people will start binge drinking faster and going out earlier, which is a big win (when the place shuts down hunnies will still be there, unlike now). I've had some great success in the US closing at bar close and the lights come up.

The US IS running operations against the Moro rebels in Mindanao. Pointing that out is not anti-American.

This was confirmed after the Mamasapano incident in 2015, where the current president was almost impeached for trying to cover up the Americans' involvement.

And why wouldn't Duterte talk directly to China? It is not anti-American for the Philippines to negotiate with their own neighbors. They are an independent nation.

Duterte has specifically said that if China continues to infringe upon their sovereignty, he'd cut Palawan in half and give a piece to the US to develop a base there.

Liquor and smoking regulations have nothing to do with America, and there's been nothing to suggest any changes to American visas.

RE: The Philippines thread
The problem with foreign investment in the Philippines wasn't really that the foreign policy of the Philippines wasn't accommodating it's that most major foreign investors are very wary of the country to begin with.

I'm not talking about some rinky dink expat bar or restaurant run by retired Grampy Funnyboner from the U.S. but the investments which consist of hundreds of millions + equity corporate foreign ventures. You can point to plenty of those ventures in countries like Thailand in comparison but in Philippines there's really not as many.

There was a lot of foreign investment in the P.I. during the 60's all the way up to the early 90's until the P.I. government and the family monopolies started to rip off major foreign investment left and right. The arrogance (and ignorance) was mindblowing and it's burned major bridges to this day.

This created a big hole in investment that went to other places (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, etc..) and the Philippines was left behind as the sick man of southeast asia right into the present day.

Will Duterte be better for the Philippines overall? Maybe when it comes to corruption, crime, and infrastructure he'll stamp out a lot of the backwards practices and criminality. However the Philippines is negotiating on the global stage from a point of major weakness when it comes to business and investment. The world needs the Philippines a lot less than the Philippines needs the world. That much is fact. If Duterte pisses off a lot of foreign investors by being tempermental etc.. it will just continue the usual course of most major investment avoiding the country.

I will say that even if Duterte ends up being bad for investment in the P.I. right now he may still be great for the country if his time in office really does clean house. If the P.I. does clean up its wildly inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy and all the shady family monopolies then down the road I can totally see it being an attractive place for lots of investment to turn to. That's a big maybe though. I refuse to drink any kind of kool-aid or buy into any kind of image marketing in southeast asia. I'm admittedly very cynical about the region's history to take anything at face value especially when it comes to corruption and politics. Strong and good leaders aren't just rare in southeast asia..you can count them on one hand in the last 100+ years.

At some level, the politics become irrelevant to travelers. Some of what you mentioned does, but things like who gets elected are a bit far from core logistics, like what Game venues are hot, and which ones aren't.

Last thing I want is the Travel section to become another Everything Excrement section.

Last thing I want is the Travel section to become another Everything Excrement section.

You're in a 144 page thread that stretches back two years, and you're wondering about core logistics in Manila, one of the most reported on locations on this entire forum.

Come on, dude. There's literally a Manila datasheet on the last page.

Meanwhile there have been like 10 political posts regarding an election that happens once every 6 years and will be over after today. All of these posts have been made by people who have posted tons and tons of data throughout the 140+ pages in this thread.

By the way, nowhere does it say that the Travel section is limited to "game venues" and "core logistics".

To be honest, the level of discourse in this and other Phil. threads is already so low, hence the reason that many Phil veterans avoid it for months at a time and rarely bother posting anything particularly insightful.

What's the point? I could post things about venues and meeting women that have never even been touched here, but it really doesn't do me any good. It'll just be leeched by 1,000 people who have 3 posts each, then buried under 10 pages of "where should I stay in Makati?"

And in return I'll get 12 vague posts about how many lays someone got from DateInAsia, and then some guy who's mad because I made a post about the country's culture or politics. Meanwhile you can go 10 minutes outside of Makati and be at high end venues that have rarely, if ever, even been mentioned on this entire forum.

For some reason people view these threads as their own personal, constantly updating Twitter feeds rather than the static, ever expanding references that they actually are.

We simply can't post about anything new, because then we'd have to scroll past it to the see the 1,000th datasheet covering the same two or three cities in Manila.

RE: The Philippines thread
^ Fair enough, seeing that the political discussion here will end today. I obviously don't own this thread, nor am I owed anything, I was just worried that it was going to devolve into nothing but politics, and dissuade or stifle any discussion of what the Travel section is known for.

Does that include leeches, newbs, and vague lay reports burying good info? Yeah, but that seems to be unavoidable. I've advocated for a newbie travel forum to address some of those issues, as well as a private one, but the forum seems to be split on those as well. Some of that may be why Roosh and Raymond created the Kings Wiki.

Also, do I even seem mad or declaring ownership? Shoot, my initial post started with "my 2 cents."
