RE: James Franco's text game
Here's my observations of the situation
1. He was probably drunk/bored and not out so decided to hit up instagram to see if anyone would bite the same way a regular guy would text his regulars/go on tinder
2. He probably picks these girls out the same way a regular guy picks a particular porn clip to watch out of the thousands out there on this particular day that was the look he wanted
3. Ive found my new avatar. Banana

RE: James Franco's text game
He failed the "Jumbotron Test." Which is:

Roissy Maxim #12: If you are comfortable with your game being splashed across a JumboTron for thousands of people to read, then you are doing it right.

I don't think Franco would be comfortable with this and any guy without his level of fame or money wouldn't be. (And while he can spin this into publicity for himself, none of us could, and there's no telling yet whether the publicity will harm or hurt his rep.)

The Jumbotron Test was mentioned back in Oct. 2011 in a thread on this forum, and in one of Roissy's best posts from Feb. of that year. After relating a horror story about women mocking guys' texts he writes:

"The next time you feel the urge to send a lovingly crafted email or text or IM to a woman who you haven’t yet banged, remember this true story from the vaults of the Chateau. Visualize the hosts reading your email out loud to the guffaws of a roomful of cute girls who soften their laughter with pitying, and faintly contemptuous, hedges about what a “niceguy” and “sweet guy” you are, and … STOP, CROP and CULL."

I remembered all this because I took it to heart and now insist on a phone call if I'm going to say anything I don't want held against me. I'll even make excuses: "The screen is hurting my eyes -- just call me, I don't feel like writing anymore."

Not true. JR Smith is a very decent sixth man, it will take more than heroics for him to bring about that wack franchise.

Not hating, I'd take him on my team as a bench guy. But his text game was perfect. His playoff numbers are not.

JR Smith has far and away the best NBA twitter account.

Here he is calling out Kris Humphries:

He apologized...and once again we have boys apologizing for being men and being direct with women. 17 is the legal age of consent in NYC. The article continues to make him out to be an idiot and he backs it up by apologizing.

He could have owned it and said, "Yea she's cute and I wanted to meet her. Non celebs do this everyday so what's the big deal again? I'm confused." Instead he acts like a pussy.

This is exactly why you have the White Knight syndrome in this country. So fucking sick of this shit. Angry

^^^ Most of the comments seem to agree.

I still think it's a publicity stunt to drum up some buzz for his movie.

It sounded like he was apologizing for using social media poorly, rather than hitting on the girl.

"You don't know who you're talking to... I had bad judgement and I learned my lesson..." = Last time I text that bitch, gonna qualify harder now hoes.

Also the host saying "I wouldn't reveal our text messages" is another woman joining the chorus of "but you could fuck me instead."

Agreed. If this whole thing is real, it shows that Franco's game sucks.

We all know that in this situation, he should have agreed an amplified like McQueen said.

I was reading some of the comments on the article posted by ABC (I think it was ABC it was 8 hours and the better half of a pint of Scotch ago). There was only one chick that called him creepy. She was promptly blown the fuck out by everyone, including other women that claim to have husbands with a larger age gap than this situation.

RE: James Franco's text game
My take on this: an interesting little snapshot of social realities.

Every actor in this little drama has a part to play, a role to uphold; and at the end, we have to reaffirm America's comforting little lies that we all tell ourselves.

Franco here is doing nothing wrong. He's a red-blooded man, and a celebrity...he's rich enough, as Gordon Gekko once said, "not to waste time." If 17 is the legal age of consent in his state, there is no issue.

He sees a morsel of flesh he likes, and moves in for the kill. As we all would. The text game is a slightly over-aggressive for a first contact with a foreign girl of 17 years (e.g., going right for the hotel room suggestion), and even a bit clumsy (e.g., asking her if she has a boyfriend, which is a rookie mistake...why the hell would he ask that question?).

But this can easily be ascribed to his probably having burned through a joint or two before he initiated contact with her.

Or more likely he's just used to getting what he wants on demand, as a celebrity. For every approach like this that went south, he probably has 10 text approaches that he does with American chicks that end up successfully.

She obviously was a bit spooked, and decided to bail. I think he could have gotten what he wanted if he had toned it down just a bit, and not gone for the whole "I'll rent a room!" in the first 15 seconds. A girl who's 17 is going to scare more easily than a seasoned carousel rider who's been around the block a few times. But then again, Franco's a busy man and by now is so jaded about pussy that he could care less.

The aftermath was what I found interesting. Our media has to spin the story to reinforce the comforting lies that older woman and manginas need to hear, so they don't go insane. Key elements of that mythology are:

(1) that men are clumsy, oafish, clowns who just can't help themselves.
(2) that teenage girls are untouchable for an older man
(3) that an older man is a horrible monster for even thinking of pronging a younger girl

And unfortunately, Franco played his part in the social ritual when he did his whole mea culpa act. Like every man in America does.

Once, just once, I wish a man would not apologize for his sexual advances on women, and say, "I prefer younger women. There are more fertile, the bodies are supple and toned, and I find them attractive. A younger woman can really reinvigorate an older man."

A man from the Third World, for example, would look at you like you were crazy if you told him it's wrong to pursue a teenager. He would scratch his head and look at you like you were the one who was crazy. "But they're more fertile. Why would I want a withered old prune to sleep with?"

In America, the games and self-delusion just never end. On cue, we read the script set out for us by the priests of pop culture orthodoxy.

That wouldn't get through to be people.

What you could say is that there personalities haven't be darkened or corrupted yet. That they tend to be more agreeable than a lot of older American women.

The famous and rich are operating under a different incentive scheme though, agree? I'd say it was in his interest to go on national television and "apologize".

Old school men wouldn't apologize for something like that.

Then again, the old school Hollywood guys probably wouldn't have done something so stupid to not cover their tracks.

True, but the old school Hollywood guys would've been out of a job in today's Western cultural environment.

Nah - Charlie Sheen generated a lot interest by owning up to it. A lot of people are probably more interested in watching him now.

Franco recently did a film (main role) with four sizzling hot young costars in (unwatchable) Spring Breakers.

One side effect of that gig is that he is now instafollowing the smorgasbord of young pussy.

The only mistake Franco made was to apologise.

If he would have just shrugged and said that a man should never apologise for following his primary imperative I would have given him major props.

The only people who should be apologizing are all the guys in the early parts of this thread who were celebrating this pussy's "direct" texting as some kind of "game."

Franco's apology just proved what I said from the jump: no game recognized.
