For girls, sure. For guys, not really from what I've seen. I still see girls clinging onto the arms of macho dudes for the most part. Got a lot of hostess/gyaru types esp. that are into the Jersey Shore version of Japanese guys.

One of my best friends is a Japanese nanpa guy. I met him just by going up to him and asking him if he was doing nanpa. Taught me a ton of stuff, most of it written in these threads.

I've had some awful cockblocking but also had some awesome buddies. Hald the time I'm out I am just tying to have fun and make buddies with the people around me. Then when girls come we split them up based on who can pull who. I also thinks it depends on where you are and the style.
The super lone wolf types probably get the most cockblockage. Like McMempy did, interact for a min or two and you're usually good. But I've had that blow up in my face on occasion too, crabs in a bucket mentality is a bitch.

I meant more facially? I'm bigger than 99% of Japanese guys.

Not sure who was giving Japanese guys hate on this thread, but anyway.
Strangers can be huge cockblocks - it's just part of the Japanese nature. Expect it and prepare yourself accordingly. At least they aren't as bad as the Koreans.
I have made some good Japanese friends there too, but even then it feels like certain topics are off limits. With most of them I've learned that it's usually better not to rub your success with girls in their faces.
With my gajin friends I can say "Dude, I scored with a really hot chick the other night!" and show some photos. It's expected banter. With Japanese guys they will say "Ii jyan. Yaru na!" but their (usually silent) reaction might be something like:
1. Why is he showing off by telling me this? He should keep that stuff to himself. (It's very un-Japanese to talk about personal success in anything unless first prompted and you are still expected to focus on the negative)
2. Jealousy (with a dose of natural tribalism added in of course)
The exception to the above would be a nampa-type guy (like memcpy's friend) who is playing the field himself. But even then, be careful. It's all cool until you are doing really well and scoring the stunning girls that foreigners aren't supposed to. That's when the hate can set in. I've encountered passive aggressive reactions from Japanese friends when told about or introduced to one of my hotter girls. It may not have even been deliberate, but the effects were felt. Lesson learned.
And goes without saying, but NEVER EVER tell Japanese colleagues about your exploits. This stuff can come back to haunt you.
So yeah, overall better to just play that shit down unless they are really interested in knowing. There is the occasional dude that wants to learn some skills for meeting girls like you do. Otherwise save it for foreign friends. Just my 2 cents.

Probably gonna go to the Philis first, but it's on the list.
@dreambig
It sounds like Japanese society values discretion?
This quality is sorely missing from the otherwise lovely people of Thailand.
Here it's like your whole street knows every little gossipy thing about you because everybody runs their mouth like a bunch of teenage girls.
They know who you've been with, when, where, presumably why, for how long, etc.
People flat out ask you personal questions about your life, business, finances, family, love life and pry when you politely decline to answer.
Bushido 路 2015-11-30 14:43:00 路 #1209
^^ In general yes, but sometimes certain people (such as managers) decide that foreigners are different and should be grilled accordingly. Especially about your love life. They volunteer nothing regarding their life but want to know everything about yours! I suppose you could say it's good that they take an interest in us at all, but it can get annoying. For the able stated reasons, I tend to give some very general answers and brush them off.
On the whole though, I'd say that the Japanese are a very private and respectful people.
Nice insights @dreambig.
So it seems,Japanese men can be just as "cockblocky" as Korean men in terms of their women so why does it seem so much easier to get Japanese girls in Japan than Korean girls in Korea?

I'm not a South Korea expert so can't make a proper comparison, but I believe Japan to be far more sexually liberated than Korea. As far as I can tell Korea seems to be changing, but Japanese girls have been sleeping around for a few decades now. The Buddhist heritage also attaches less shame to sex than Christianity which certainly seems to make its presence felt in Korea. Finally, the Japanese are perhaps the least xenophobic in East Asia.
I don't seem to have as much problems with approaching now, at least in night game and with alcohol involved. On the other hand, I'm failing to hook my targets, esp. due to the language barrier. I also approach a lot of two sets on my own and have pretty much no idea what to do here. I've tried to engage the friend as well sometimes but that's backfired for both me and a friend of mine, as if she decides to ignore / talk down to you your initial target loses interest as well. I'm having a lot more fun since just talking to everyone and I've been getting a wider social network, but I'd obviously like to improve my game as well lol
In particular, I'd like to know what some of you more experienced guys are doing with regards to non-verbal game and on the dance floor. I see some J-guys just going for it and grabbing girls and trying to grind with them on the df, but to me that feels pretty awkward and it rarely seems to work anyways. I prefer finding a bar area and bouncing the girl onto the dancefloor, then I just do whatever, but I also suck at isolating and only seem to be good with dealing with the rare 1-set. Should I just ignore the friend(s), grab the girls hand, and say "let's dance"?
Also, my escalation sucks, but I think the solution to that is just pretty much grow a pair. i should avoid kissing on the dancefloor though, yeah?
I'm back to Germany after 3 months in Japan. I could stay longer but run out of money. I had the feeling that I could bild a harem there when my stay is longer or I live there regular. So I plan to go back.
Had a great time there and the tips here helped a lot. My approaches had been in Izakayas and with Tinder. Sometimes in a club to. (Feria). There I just started to dance and make out. It was not always easy but still great. I also like many other things in Japan but I have to rise my Japanese. Then my success rate would be for sure higher.
Because of my bad language skills I never tried day game.
What I encounter:
- When she meet you she is mostly down to fuck
- Japanese guys even cockblock themselves
- Japanese helps for sure *lol*
- It's quite easy to get into contact with people. Men and Women
- Japanese are very friendly
- Working culture is a pain in the ass sometimes
- Flakes
- Great country in general but it depends what you do for a living
Not sure where to drop it but I'm going to be in Tokyo for New Years.
Aside from a buddy of mine DJing at a club and another buddy of mine probably having a private party with his band I'm not too much in the know of what's going to be going down in that part of Japan for the countdown.
Thanks a lot for the links memcyp! Learning a bunch from those.
I probably haven't been doing enough day approaches but the ones I've done, they've still ended the same way. They don't speak much English if any at all, so it just fizzles out quickly.
Social circle game has been a bit better though. I went to a club with a few friends and there was an HB7 who was pretty into me. My game wasn't as tight as it should have been, I definitely drank way too much which caused me to totally play the situation wrong. At least I learned not to drink too much. Definitely my biggest fuck up in a long time. Almost certainly could have got the bang had I not drank that much.
Interestingly, I've been approached a few times. One of those was a really nice HB7.5 who I ended up taking out. It was going really good until I found out they don't drink any alcohol. My original plan was to bounce to a nice bar nearby but I totally didn't know what to do at that point. I don't really have any idea where to go with them. I tried to kino some at the first venue and it went okay, but it wasn't really the best place for it. They've already brought up d2 but I don't know where to take them so I can properly escalate. Any d2 venue suggestions would be super helpful.

So they don't drink but would they smoke?
I've always been a fan of hookah/shisha flavored tobacco. I would guess they don't but that is an option. Isakayas are still an option so you can have a drink or two while they enjoy their mixed juice.
A more important thing would be going off what sort of places fit your vibe? Care to share a few details about what type of places you prefer?

Pretty sure that wouldn't work, as cool as it sounds.
I think a club or bar generally fits the vibe I've been putting off. I kind of feel like I just need a place to run kino a little bit and I could probably make it back to her place, she seems pretty into me. I'm honestly pretty new to Japan in general so it's kind of hard to come up with places to go.

I'm currently in the airport , I'll be arriving in tokyo by tmw, and staying in asakusa. This will also be my first time in Asia, so I'm excited to see what it has to offer me.
Do you guys know if there's anything worth checking out for nye? What do the younger tokyoers usually do the night of the 31st?

Most young Tokyoers head to their hometowns to be with family for NYE. They treat it similarly to how westerners treat Christmas.
Also in tokyo for new years. Tokyo is one of the most overrated cities ive been to.

Here are my observations so far on tokyo. I apologize for any typos as I'm writing this on my cellphone.
I've been having a love and hate relationship so far ever since I've landed here.
The pros:
Tokyo has some of the friendliest and nicest people I've encountered in my whole life. One guy actually missed his train stop while explaining to me how to get to my hostel.
The city is surprisingly very clean and well organized, despite the large number of people circulating. I also did not encounter even one homeless person living in the street, even with the high living expenses (see cons below)
The girls here had me in a constant state of ecstasy ever since I landed. I have never seen such a high proportion of super polite, gorgeous, well dressed and very classy girls at one place in such a short amount of time. I haven't really day gamed too much here yet, but from what I've seen, bitchiness and brutal rejections when you approach a girl here seems non existent. The only negative feedback I've received so far is when, for some reason, I approached this white girl at a bar who happeenes to be a tourist from upstate NY.
Now I could go on and on and talk about the amazing quality of the cuisine, the subway system, but I think it's already well covered in this thread.
As for nye, it wasn't very difficult as virtually every bar and club in roppongi was open and packed.
The cons:
1)
It's expensive! Sorry, but to really enjoy most of what tokyo has to offer, it seems you would need a fat wallet around here.
Unless you're cooking, I'm not sure it's possible to survive on less than 3000 yen daily on food ($30 us), and that's not fancy dining to say the least! We're talking street food and ramen.
And it's not just that. As a tourist, there's just so much stuff I've never seen before , so the temptation to just try everything is really high. On my way to my hostel, I was walking down this street in asakusa and ended up spending over 4000 yen simply by trying different snacks and meals and stuff at the food stalls.
2)
You do not feel special here in Japan as a foreigner.
While walking down the street, I haven't received any curious stares or even friendly smiles while crossing path with other tokyoers down the street.
At first I thought Japanese girls simply did not find me good looking, since I didn't seem to be making eye contact with any of them.
This perception quickly changed after I entered this pub in roppongi, and later proceeded to dance with THE hottest japanese girl I'm the whole bar, or even my whole life actually. I'm pretty sure I would've slept with her if my logistics had been better.
So I guess the moral of the story is just because a girl here doesn't make eye contact with you or acknowledge your presence, that does not mean she's not interested.
Anyways, I'm here for 2 more weeks, so I'll update you guys some more over the following days.
Theres homeless people on some corners usually close to train stations, dont know how you could miss them. You dont day game much but brutal rejections seem non existent? Brutal rejections hardly happen in any culture. Surprisingly clean? I see rubbish bags on the side of the street or in bushes everyday.
Spend some more time in a city before misguiding readers with so many claims based off of 2 days..
Bushido 路 2016-01-01 05:54:00 路 #1224
Tokyo is pretty cheap for eating out. Give me an example of a major 1st tier city that's cheaper. New York? London? Moscow?
You are obviously looking in the wrong places or trying to
eat a western diet if you are spending 3000+ daily on ramen and street food.
Anyway man, enjoy and move out of the hostel if you are looking to get laid.
There might be homeless people but they're nowhere near the same level as the kind in San Francisco or LA. I've even had homeless ppl in Tokyo REFUSE my money when I first visited vs say LA where even average Joe's will be hitting you up for his money on the regular.. Plus, this might sound strange but the homeless people I saw in Tokyo (specifically shibuya) were very organized and respectful of each other vs say the Tenderloin in San Francisco where someone will take a shit in the middle of the street so he wasn't misguiding at all.
As for blowouts, again as someone who's approached over 1000 girls worldwide, Tokyo blowouts aren't as bad as western culture, especially due to tatemae.
Always irks me when a Japan vet complains about it there when you've forgotten how much better it is there vs a western city. I'll trade ya for a month then
