I think the perception that tourists or first timers to Japan is always pretty much the same: its clean, people are 'nice', safe etc

Its a neat place compared to some neighborhoods in LA where I grew up but there is something tourists need to realize about Tokyo/Japan. Tokyo is NOT Japan and while you may wonder why you don't stand out as a white man in an Asian city, its the same logic as an Asian tourist wondering why no one gives him a second look down hollywood boulevard when America is supposedly "white men's land." Simple, its an international city with foreigner fatique. While Tokyo isn't exactly the place you would spend most of your time if you want to see 'real' Japan, I wouldn't go into it because so many before has done so in such great detail.

As for game, Japan is a very different ballgame depending on which city you're in.

Tokyo:
I was in Japan for a year and was mainly in Tokyo. This would obviously skewer the results but based on my gaming in several cities, Tokyo is by far the easiest to get your Japanese flag. Tokyo is where all the kids from all different parts of Japan, from the countryside(Inaka) to patriotic Osakans come to get jobs and go home to brag about how they 'made it in Tokyo.' Its common thing in Tokyo to ask "Shusshin wa?" (Where is your hometown) so you can kinda see how many Tokyoites weren't originally from the capital. If you're targeting girls 26 and below, this is the largest pool of girls who left their countryside in order to live the city life and such may be encountering a foreigner for the first few times of her life. This plays out good for you because with the advice from the others from this thread, you should be getting your flag playing your cards right.

Osaka/Fukuoka/Other major Japanese cities:
This is where it gets tricky. In my one year in Japan, I made side trips ranging from a few days to 3 weeks to other cities for work and travel. I found it harder to get girls to come home with me. Again, this could be due to my familiarity with the works of Tokyo and lack of that in other cities but after meeting up with several gamers based in Osaka and Fukuoka, they have all reported it to be easier to get their notches in Tokyo. This is because girls in these cities(esp 20-26) are still in there precisely because they can't/don't want to go to Tokyo. You may get more curious glances and more excited responses during conversations but they may not be interested in bedding you or at least not without some stronger level game that may not be necessary with Tokyo girls.

Tochigi/Aomori/3rd tier Japanese cities:
Ahhh the Inaka, home of the racist ojissans who would berate Korea in front of you when you told them 5mins ago you have Korean ancestry. The countryside is a particularly interesting place. I found that girls here are more receptive to foreigners simply because they probably haven't seen a foreigner in their whole lives. As an Asian American, they are so in awe with the fact that I speak English yet look like them, most of them can't wait to parade me like some kind of trophy to their girlfriends. I had one date I met in Tottori while at their famous sand dunes who dragged me to her girlfriends' gathering that same night and showed me off to them, rambling in thick Tottori dialect about how I'm from America, can speak English and is apparently 'cool' (they kept showing me the thumbs up the whole night, it was hilarious) I ended up bedding that chick but the whole experience was more amusing than anything.


Well, this is a very quick summary of my experiences in my one year stay in Japan, Im now in Singapore and might be visiting Japan in the summer again, hit me up if you're coming to Singapore and want to meet up for drinks or chase some skirts.

This perception quickly changed after I entered this pub in roppongi, and later proceeded to dance with THE hottest japanese girl I'm the whole bar, or even my whole life actually. I'm pretty sure I would've slept with her if my logistics had been better.

So I guess the moral of the story is just because a girl here doesn't make eye contact with you or acknowledge your presence, that does not mean she's not interested.

1.]If you are buying street food in Asakusa that is similar to buying food at a fair. It is going to be very overpriced. If I am low on cash and don't feel like withdrawing from an ATM simple convini riceballs are about 1$ each and 2 of those will keep a guy feeling full enough to feel alright.

Aside from that, the said ramen shops are probably the ones in the big tourist areas that charge extra for location as well as being a place tourists are known to spend money in. You can quite easily live on 10-15$ a day if you are not cooking.

2.] Tokyo is known to be a fairly cold city. But once you go to the right places, as you found, you can really enjoy the place much better. I would imagine if you travel outside of Tokyo you'll be shocked by how different the people act.

A funny story when I was living in Iwate 12 years ago. Dragged by a girl to a house party. Once the awful Iwate ohasama wine started flowing everyone there wanted to see just how big Gaijin Dick was. Invited each girl into a private room to explore for themselves but alas not many takers lol.

As i come to the end of my 2 week solo trip in tokyo, I'd like to share with you all my updated observations on this massive city.
Apologies for any typos as I write this on my cellphone.

The people:
The first thing I noticed, and loved about tokyo as soon as I got there was how respectful and excessively polite everyone seemed to be. It happened on numerous occasions where I stopped to ask a stranger for directions, and they would literally stop what they're doing and take me to where I wanted to go.

However, sometimes I feel as if there's a dark side to all this respectfulness. For one, the culture seems very introverted and quiet. I mean, it's nice to be able to walk in a restaurant and eat by yourself without feeling like you're being judged, but it goes too far. I went to a gym a few days ago, and after the clerk went thru some of the (very strict) rules with me, not a single human voice was heard for the entire 3 hours I was there, even though there was maybe 20 or so other people in that gym.

The girls:
I mentioned in my previous post how Tokyo has some of the most gorgeous, classy, well dressed and polite girls I've seen.
This perception has not changed. However, initially I assumed I could have any of these good looking broads if I put in some effort, simply because they seemed so nice and receptive with me when I tried to approach them. Boy was I wrong.

How easy the girls are seem to change drastically depending on where you meet them and their social status. For instance, last week I went to this ghettoish club in roppongi, and just by being a foreigner from canada, I literally felt like I was in pussy paradise. For the first time in my life I actually had to turn girls down. Although a lot of the girls seemed to be of lower quality, I really thought I could expect a similar response everywhere around tokyo, and this is where disappointment started setting in.

My first attempt at day game was in harajuku. I would look for a cute girl who’s by herself around the subway station, and would ask them if they knew where takeshita St was. I approached maybe 12 or so girls before giving up. 3 of the 12 girls actually brought me directly to takeshita St, but as soon as I tried to push for an instant date at a Starbucks or something they all turned me down. There's also the massive language barrier that made everything so much more difficult. I definitely wasn't getting the same type of positive response and admiration as from the girls in the bar I went to the night before.

The following Saturday I went to this other club called v-tokyo, which is supposedly one of the highest rated clubs in tokyo. Although the quality was definitely top notch, I simply could not pull. I pretty much felt like I was in a club back home, with maybe 1+ or 1.5+ smv. I also met these 2 japanese heart surgeons (supposedly) in the lineup and they were having a pretty hard time getting their own girls as well.

So I guess the conclusion is the following: tokyo can be very close to what you may call pussy paradise, as long as you only target lower quality girls and the ones that go to sketchy bars and clubs with the intent of meeting a foreigner.
The top tier Japanese girls I was hoping for seem to be reserved for top tier Japanese men, or foreigners with enough social status in Japan as well as fluency in Japanese.
Nevertheless, I'm still convinced if I became functional in Japanese, and decided to move here for a while, I would eventually end up with a fine Japanese girl, a lot prettier than I could easily get back home. Is it worth it? I really don't know, but the feminine nature of these girls was enough to make me melt a little, and I have this impression that they make amazing wives.

I think the main issue that made gaming girls in Japan so difficult is the language barrier. The level of English understood by the majority of the population is extremely low, and often I was very lucky to even find a local who understood English well enough to hold a conversation.

The cuisine;
Although there are definitely some state of the art dishes hidden in the vast collection of exotic restaurants around tokyo, I actually found myself craving food i'm used to eating back home, such as a good steak or some pasta with Alfredo sauce and meatballs. I ate so much ramen in tokyo, that I can no longer stand the smell of that pasta soup anymore. And they're so cheap, and pretty much everywhere. Im also allergic to a lot of seafood such as shrimps and crab, which made eating out particularly difficult. Also, the traditional Japanese diet doesn't really go well with my high protein low carb regime I'm trying to maintain. So, while there's definitely some nice restaurants in tokyo overall, as opposed to most, I feel traditional japanese cuisine is definitely something i could live without.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time in tokyo, and i believe this made for a great introduction to Asia for me. I've visited numerous temples and shrines, saw a sumo fight, did a lot of shopping , met a lot of cool people and overall enjoyed the aliveness of the city. There's so many malls and shopping centers it makes NYC look like a suburb. I will definitely visit tokyo again, and will even consider living there for a while if I find an interesting job position in my field of work. When I come back, I will make sure to bring my greatest weapon, my Japanese language fluency.

Harajuku is not easy, daygame wise. If you stand near the station long enough you will see nanpa guys approaching girls. They blend in because they will walk and talk with a girl. What gives them away is their horrible body language (leaning in, head nodding, apologizing, and such). After they bomb they go back to their standing spot and wait for the next.

Daygaming in Roppongi would have been better and more fun in your circumstance.

Alright, everything that I am about to write is based on my personal experience in Tokyo from September 2014 to September 2015, my year long internship stint in Japan. Do note that I am an Asian man with around 2 to 3 years of gaming experience but first arrived in Tokyo with zero connections. I speak moderate Japanese as my mum is one but English is my first language. I also speak Mandarin and Korean which helps when gaming homesick Chinese or Korean girls in the large sprawling capital.

Day game locations:

1.Tsutaya bookstores, specifically the one at Shibuya overlooking the Crossing and the one at Daikanyama.

If you're going to the one in Shibuya, skip through all the storeys and head straight to the 7th(or was it 6th?) floor with all the foreign movies. Foreign movies, you are a foreign man, she is looking at foreign movies, girls are more likely to want to talk to you on that level. Simple and sweet. Give the floor a quick glance for talent and you can always come back again for another look if its empty

The one at Daikanyama gets shit crowded on weekends and I don't recommend going there ever on a weekend. On a weekday night however, it is surprisingly quiet and you get many OLs dropping by after work, there is an in house Starbucks so its great for a quick insta-date.

2. Cafes

Japanese girls love cafes more than they love you or any other thing existing on this planet. It doesn't matter if its a Starbucks or one of their localized creations, you would almost always find a hottie in a cafe and just use the standardize "can you help me read this kanji" line to start a conversation. you know the drill

3. On the streets

Direct game as discussed by many, isn't your best choice in Japan. Always go indirect and ask for directions. Pretend to be incredibly confused by how the Japanese street number system works and ask if she can show you the way if "she has time", they will almost always show you the way even if they have to miss their flight or something. +1 for the ridiculous helpfulness. Along the way, make small talk and do ramble game. DON'T let the walk be awkward or silent. Afterwhich you can ask for her number/Line and work from there.


NightGame:

Clubs

Agepa, Faria etc The club culture is definitely alot more tame than the west so don't expect much going into a Japanese club. Nobody would be robbing you. As a general rule, foreigners are given leeway for many things in Japan. This include goofy antics or whatever you're good at in a club. Dancefloor game? Take it away. Just remember, ultimately you are there to game. You're in a club, fuck numbers or Lines and focus on getting the lay that night. Play your cards right and things would be fine. Don't buy girls free drinks, thats beta Japanese men's tactics. Get the Japanese men to buy the drinks (they would almost always cockblock you) and then whisper in the girl's ear like "how many more drinks do you think we can get this idiot to buy us?" most of them would laugh and look at you, the alpha male, with eyes of admiration. This works wonders especially for Asian guys. They just don't think we have the balls to do things like that.

Cafes

Surprise surprise but Starbucks in the night scene areas are normally open till late and you get girls who missed the last train, going to coffeehouses to spend the next few hours. Chat them up and ask if they want to go for a late night meal or drinks. If they like you, they would go with you. Because they literally have nothing else to do in the Starbucks, if they wouldn't go with you, they really are not interested.

Bars
Shibuya, Omotesando, Aoyama or Roppongi
Bars are slightly more interesting. At 2am, most Japanese bars are either super packed or just pitifully empty. With the exception of HUBs of course, that shithole is forever crowded. It would be good if you spot a few chicks drinking, some just waiting for the last train. I had one chick who broke up with her boyfriend and was telling me how much he was a jerk and I gave her a hug and didn't let go. I banged her that night and never saw her again.

Bars are a good starting point for your night, check out the talent, warm up alittle before hitting the clubs. If you're lucky, you never even have to head to the clubs that night, I have had multiple lucky breaks at 8-10pm at the bars and just whisked her home for the night without even having to spend more than 3000yen that evening.

General ramble:

Roppongi
Maybe its because I'm an Asian foreigner. But Roppongi never yielded much for me. Sometimes its painfully obvious when the girls there are looking specifically for white or black guys. Without wanting to hate on Roppongi too much, it just never was my place. I drew less than 5 times in Roppongi out of my multiple visits over the course of 1 year and the night passes painfully slow when I'm there. Its still a good area to chill out with friends and meet some cool dudes from around the world but I find myself getting out of the game mode mentally whenever I go to Roppongi. It got to the point where my friends and I would go to Roppongi and I would wing them(they're white or any other ethnicity other than Asian) especially if they're visiting me in Japan and need some social validation from the Japanese girls. Its cool to help them out since they helped me back home too.

International Parties
These are literally the extreme ends of the spectrum of girls. Its either a cock fest or not. I have met some of the most beautiful women I've seen in my life at these parties. With a cover of 2000 to 3000yen for all you can drink for 2-3 hours, why not? No doubt the alcohol is shitty but if you were there to drink then you're in the wrong place. The good thing about these parties is that everyone is there to meet foreigners so you work with a targeted audience to start with. Its also a relatively cheap night out option if you get your lay at the party or just numbers collecting to convert into dates on weekdays. Google International Parties Japan and you see a few pop out, they're all pretty decent so just drop by any one you think is worth your time.


Closing:
Good logistics determine whether you get your lay or not in Japan. Sometimes your logistics are just shitty (shared apartment, far out or just not suitable for a guest) I would always recommend a love hotel. Forget the karaoke, its really not worth trying. If you get caught, you're gonna be in some deep trouble. And we know the rules: we stay far far away from the cops, in this case the Keisatsu san. A decent love hotel wouldn't set you back more than 8000yen for 3 hours or 10,000yen for a stay over. Note that these are the high end love hotels and you should have no problem getting a place for 5000yen for a few hours. They are not shady establishments and the interior is alot more pleasing than the exterior. Always say you want a quick rest or whatever excuse. Japanese girls need the plausible denial. You're going to 'rest'. Sex? What in the world could that be?

A shoutout to my Asian brothers:

We may not stand out as much compared to our white/black/brown brothers but there are benefits to it too. They have to deal with alot more direct racism or Japanese insensitivity especially if you're already in bad mood. I cant remember how many times my white friends have to deal with stares while taking the train and some country bumpkin outrightly pointing at them while they talk about him. We don't get that. As long as we keep our mouth shut, our foreigner status is ambiguous. I like to think of Asian Americans or any other Asians in Japan as having the privilege of having a on/off switch on our foreigner card. We can switch it on when we WANT to stand out and game girls but we can also switch it off when we just want to get home asap and not feeling particularly sociable that day. Our other foreigner friends unfortunately don't get that privilege.

We also have a benefit that is unique to us. We are 'potential' boyfriends that these girls can bring back to their countryside parents who would flip a table if they see their daughters bringing a gaijin home. While the Japanese media often paints a negative image of Koreans and Chinese, in reality these girls are hardly racist against their fellow East-Asians and most Japanese parents would rather their daughter marry a Korean than a white man. To be fair, there is still a fair bit of discrimination against Chinese but only those who don't bother to dress up. The Koreans have it better due to the Kpop craze.

I'm currently based in Singapore and have been missing Japan and am looking to go back for a holiday soon. The 'Japan Code' took me awhile to crack but when I finally figured the game out there, it was far easier than many other Asian cities. Work on your game, be patient and good things will follow in the land of anime and ramen.

Another ABC dude here. I get the same vibe in Roppongi. Too many gaijin hunters to be a productive use of time. Strangely enough, I found the girls (both foreign and japanese) to be more receptive at the international parties. Maybe it's the all you can drink factor loosening them up. But yeah, it's definitely hit or miss.

Are you gaming primarily in Japanese?
I think that makes a huge difference as it opens up the dating pool by a huge amount. You'll get the normal Japanese girls, and not limit yourself to the gaijin hunters.
Whereas I don't speak Japanese, I've mostly been limited to white and Chinese girls. Or maybe I'm just taking the path of least resistance, dunno.

- Japanese girls are really good at make up. Damn.

I make it a rule to always open in English and switching to Japanese is always a last resort if the girl really doesn't know any English. We need the English speaking factor to stand out if not she's just going to dismiss you as just another Japanese guy doing nanpa on her. Speaking in English definitely catches her attention.

Another thing to note is that girls(and guys) do start to notice and look at you if they hear you speaking English to your girl. They would be just as curious as to why an Asian guy would have such good English. Trust me, your girl loves every minute of the attention. Here she is, dating an Asian(ambiguously Japanese) man who speaks perfect English, one of the greatest social validation in a foreign-obsessed city like Tokyo.

The longer I spend in Japan, the more positive things I find out about being an Asian gamer in Tokyo.

Nice writeup Zerdame. I honestly think that being an Asian foreigner is an advantage if you know how to use it. Perhaps it's a "grass is greener" thing on my part, but you guys generally get hotter looking chicks due to less social stigma.

In Roppongi, you're not alone in being outside their target range. A lot of J-girls who go there are exclusively looking for Japanese guys now. Places like, say, Gas Panic, Jumanji, Greenland are now mostly Japanese joints. My fellow gaijin players struggle to pull most nights. Feria is still perhaps gaijin-orientated but the ratio is poor due to other places closing.

I know that all sounds weird, but the vibe definitely changed in the last few years. Most of the hot girls in Roppongi can be seen going home with other Japanese college students and whatnot. 10 years back that would have been unthinkable. I'm personally fine with it, but it's nice to have a place where we can cut the BS and focus on low-hanging fruit. The scene is way too mixed up now. Where are all the gaijin hunters at these days?

To be honest, I think the foreigner fatigue is really hurting Tokyo. The number of foreigners in Tokyo is really startling and its just one of the things that we have to get used to as Japan becomes more accepting of foreigners. Gaijin hunters normally go for foreigners for a variety of reasons but mainly being because of curiosity, we're better lovers or just simply because they don't get enough love from local men. The really hot ones also tend to have shitty english simply because there isnt a need for them to learn English, they get so much validation from the local men that they live by it perfectly fine. Its also good to note that gaming in Japan has indeed changed alot. Asian foreigners with good English and Japanese tend to be more in demand and with Kpop sweeping Japan, the stigmas of dating fellow East Asians have dropped comparatively to 10 years ago. For our white/black brothers, there will always be a percentage of the Japanese girls who date exclusively white or black guys. Unfortunately, they also tend to be on the lower end in the looks department. Most girls are fairly neutral about dating foreigners but no nut is impossible to crack. With such a big pool of beautiful women to tap into, statistically you can't be too far off.

Foreigner numbers are definitely way up on 5 years ago. Statistics on tourism and foreigner registrations (can't be assed to provide the citations, but it's easily confirmed) and my own observations bear that out.

That said, I am still getting curious glances from men and women simply as a white dude, this in the heaviest tourist area of Japan's second city. So I don't think it's saturated here in Osaka.

The foreign visitor to Osaka by far and large are the Chinese and Koreans from what I seen.

On top if that if you head out into the nightlife the number of which who can communicate in Japanese is probably going to be around 7/10.

From that though, I wonder how many of the 19-23 year old girls you bang will be from kansaigaidai. Chicks from there seem to have the highest interest in banging gaijin in 大阪

Ha, I've definitely banged a couple from that university. But the big one is that half of my Osaka notches seem to come from Nara girls...

Osaka has always been kinda hard for me granted I've only been there twice. Both times where I was 90% sure that I was going to get her to come back with me, she would opt to go back to drink with her friends instead. I thought this was just some strong LMR or an isolated case with that one chick but I've seen guys make out with girls for about 4 hours and she would STILL resist getting out of the bar with him. This never happens in the capital and as much as I want to attribute this to the "Kansai-ness" of the girls there, it just doesn't make sense.

This is also not the case for other Japanese 2nd tier cities like Fukuoka, I had a blast in Fukuoka even though there were so many Koreans there, my ability to pull off a few phrases were hardly as entertaining to the girls there.

While walking down the street, I haven't received any curious stares or even friendly smiles while crossing path with other tokyoers down the street.

At first I thought Japanese girls simply did not find me good looking, since I didn't seem to be making eye contact with any of them.
This perception quickly changed after I entered this pub in roppongi, and later proceeded to dance with THE hottest japanese girl I'm the whole bar, or even my whole life actually. I'm pretty sure I would've slept with her if my logistics had been better.

So I guess the moral of the story is just because a girl here doesn't make eye contact with you or acknowledge your presence, that does not mean she's not interested.

1.]If you are buying street food in Asakusa that is similar to buying food at a fair. It is going to be very overpriced. If I am low on cash and don't feel like withdrawing from an ATM simple convini riceballs are about 1$ each and 2 of those will keep a guy feeling full enough to feel alright.

Aside from that, the said ramen shops are probably the ones in the big tourist areas that charge extra for location as well as being a place tourists are known to spend money in. You can quite easily live on 10-15$ a day if you are not cooking.

2.] Tokyo is known to be a fairly cold city. But once you go to the right places, as you found, you can really enjoy the place much better. I would imagine if you travel outside of Tokyo you'll be shocked by how different the people act.

I think everything anyone needs to know to cruise around and get laid in Japan has been said in this thread. The only thing I haven't seen mentioned is another way to get cheap food. Department store grocery stores (usually in the basement) at train stations usually have two sections. One is a regular grocery store and the other is a collection of stalls selling different kinds of fresh-made and deli food. They are often on two different underground floors. For example, the grocery store might be on B2 and the live store on B1.

At night, perhaps around 7-8 p.m., the live stall floor will start selling their wares at a steep discount to get rid of them. A lot of Japanese women, especially housewives, know about this and will hover around to swoop in and get the good stuff, so your food grabbing-game needs to be tight. You can get some quality vittles for 50-80% off. The baked goods won't usually be discounted, but the meat, fish, and vegetable/fruit foods often will be.

What is the best city for getting chicks between Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe? Are those cities too even to give a clear winner?

Osaka is probably your best bet. They're the biggest city and would naturally have girls from the other two cities working there. Be warned that Kansai girls are generally harder than girls from the capital. Kyoto is a haven for tourist game. I picked up one of the hottest Korean solo traveller and she was one of the most satisfactory bang in my time in Japan.

For Laner:

Kobe for older international type girls.

Kyoto for tourists (Japanese and foreign)

Osaka was a grind for me. Lots of babes, just never had too much luck outside of gaijin groupie spots.

Why are Kansai girls more difficult to pick up? Would it help if I could speak Japanese better than a gaijin, or do Kansai girls just not like being seen with foreigners much?

Osaka was hard for me too. The issue with Kansai girls is that they are so damn friendly that you think you are getting interest when it's just their normal happy demeanour. If you're used to the cooler Kanto girls then this comes as a surprise when you later get nowhere and all your prospects flake out. Just don't expect anything from any particular number and you will be better off.

Then again, guys who live in Osaka complain that Tokyo girls are cold and unapproachable. Probably just a matter of perspective overall.

Should also note that the nampa scene is rampant in Osaka. Girls 100% expect street approaches. So you don't get the element of surprise you might in some parts of Kanto (excluding Shibuya obviously) where people are much more reserved.
