I need a piece of advice from all you Japan experts on the forum. I want to travel to Japan next year with my brother, but he has a felony conviction on his record, from 20 years ago.
Anyway he could slip through somehow?....i.e. at a port.

I'm assuming what you are describing is a hypothetical situation.

In such a theoretical case, I would simply not declare the felony on the landing form. Major crimes such as homicide and terrorism aside, they have no way of knowing unless you tell them.

I just assume Japan would be like Canada or Panama, where no one with a record is allowed in.

^^ If they know about it then you may not get in, depending on the severity of the crime. But my point is that they don't have instant access to foreign criminal records.

Inspired by this thread I have applied for a position in Tokyo myself now and the pay would be approximately $2000/month. What kind of living standard could I achieve with such a salary assuming I don't need to save any of it?

If that's your pay after rent you should be fine. If rent isn't included it can still be done but if you're going to be in Tokyo then be ready to either live away from central, in a roomshare (I wouldn't want to) and/or hand to mouth.

This would be my pay before rent. I'm ok with blowing my pay on rent and living expenses as long as I don't go in the red monthly. Optimally I would like to live by myself close to either Shibuya or Shinjuku if at all possible on such a budget.

That's pretty low, i wouldn't recommend and job at less tham 2500,even that's cheap for tokyo.

You'd be lookin at instant ramen on the daily if you planned to party at all.

Shibuya? I doubt it. You really will be eating ramen if you managed to find something there.

Shinjuku? Slightly better odds- but you may also be living in a place that predates when the Japanese updated the building codes for earthquakes. No thanks imo. Maybe if you go up to Okubo or Ikebukuro you can swing it and still be on the Yamanote.

I hope your employer helps with moving costs. If not start saving- you're looking at 3500+ usd via first month, deposits and fees just to get keys in your hand.

You will probably live a few hrs outside tokyo. Livimg in tokyo the rent would be too high.

Also keep in mind that in Japan you get paid at the end of the month. Meaning you start work in lets say... November 1. Well, you're probably not going to get paid until December 31.

This little detail made a few of my friends miserable because they didn't bring the proper amount of money to get started in Japan.

I've just arrived in Nishinomiya, which is right in between Osaka and Kobe, with decent logistics and bars near my tiny japanese apartment.
Already aproached a few cute girls, got some Line and now I'm trying to set up dates. I'm completely new to game, until now all I did was go naturally, but after reading Rooshs book I want to implement all the important stuff to my game to become the best achievable version of myself.

For what it's worth, I spoke with a friend recently who has lived in Tokyo for awhile and thought I would share with you the game he does which is a little different than what has been talked about in this thread. He is game aware and sometimes lurks on this site, but doesn't have an account here. His company pays his rent to live in Roppongi, so he's in a good situation. He is Asian-American.

He told me that he no longer bothers going to bars, clubs, or coffee shops to try to pick up girls in Tokyo. What he does, is he goes out on the side streets around Roppongi Crossing in the evenings between about 8-10. He just walks around and does indirect approaches on girls walking alone and tries to get insta-dates with them. Of course, he has the bars and cafes near his apartment scouted-out for this purpose. He told me he's able, with a couple of hours of approaches, to get an insta-date most of the time. He said of those, he's able to get about 50% of them to come back to his apartment with him. Because of the number of approaches he does, he told me he exchanges numbers/Line IDs with enough girls that he never has to text any girls to ask them out. A few of them will usually text him eventually asking what he's up to.

If he doesn't have any luck getting an insta-date by 10 p.m. (on weekend or holiday nights), he will go home and hit the sack, then get up around 4 a.m. and walk around Roppongi Crossing some more. This time, he approaches girls who have finished partying or gotten-off work from their bar or club job and are waiting for the trains to start running. He told me has gotten several SML bangs this way.

So, if what he says is true, and I believe him as he's a good friend, he saves a lot of money and wear-and-tear on his liver with this system. For those of you visiting Tokyo, I suggest getting an Air BNB place as close to Roppongi Crossing as possible, if you want to try this system.

C-note, this "new system" was talked about on this thread. I and others mentioned getting a place next to or near the station (no more than 5-10mins walk) where you can roll out of bed and approach.

So I found a great gym in the north of Tokyo. It's a bit of a hike from central places, but if you are staying in Kita-ku area or nearby then you should try this place out:

The gym is a local ward facility but surprisingly anyone can sign up, including tourists which is a huge advantage. Commercial gyms need to see your visa/Japanese bank account details and you almost always have to sign up for at least 6 months. You can't just walk into Gold's and expect to train for a few weeks only. It doesn't work like that in Japan.

Unlike 90% of gyms in Japan, they also have two benches and two squat racks. You write your name down to reserve a slot for 20 minutes. Of the other government gyms, I've never seen one with proper barbells before. Maybe they exist, but it's a first for me. And some of the guys are positively huge.

Anyway, the best thing is the cost. It's only 300 yen per session or 2,400 monthly. 6 months is 12,000! About the same price as a month in a commercial gym.

As for downsides, the staff are proper sticklers for obscure rules (welcome to Japan) and probably don't speak English (again - it's Japan) , but this place is a good bet if you need somewhere to train while staying in Tokyo.

Yes, he's fluent in Japanese. The thing is, however, he has told me that it really isn't necessary to be fluent. It's more having a cool attitude and being able to project fun charisma. I think his system would work with Japan residents or first-time visitors.

Guys I need help from some of you experienced ones.
A Friend introduced me to an amazing girl and We went out eating and drinking together . l was teasing her a lot and make her laugh and she kept touching me. Later my friend left us alone and we kept on joking and also talking about relationships and some personal, more serious stuff.
All this while l kept strong eye contact and held her hand for a few seconds from time to time. after we were done, l tried to really subtly take her to my apartment, and I think she wanted to come but she didn't want to appear slutty. So we went around searching for a taxi and l again tried to maintain the physical contact. I think l should try harder to invite her to stay the night.

l actually want to have a LTR with this girl. Now we are chatting but I don't know what to do right now. Should I keep showing interest or better distance myself a little? I try my best to not appear needy.

For second try, just invite out again when she's next free, rinse and repeat, until she comes home or goes cold. When she's home, you should 'pulse' the escalation, depending on her resistance. Keep going until she submits or leaves.

I'm fresh in Japan and like it. Had 2 lays. For me it works that I make contact in a bar or club. Then I try to push. One girl get lost in the club, different story. lol
In the bars the girls mostly not direct in but give me their line. Then I do a meeting but had not so much because of the busy mentality. The next days I have more and try to go for it. So I spend the last 2 weeks for going out and get as many girls as I can for contacts. Sometimes in a bar even 2 or 3. Sometimes there was some make out but I did not close it. Have to push harder.

I will try to start at my place with drinking, if not then just hit an Izakaya and take her back home. I noticed from my Brazil experience that I'm better to just create some heath and then go for it at the second date. Only issue in Japan, because of the busy mentality it can take some time for the next meeting. So I try to close it at the first date, as I say some lay ahead.
Was one night in Roppongi but be honest, I don't like it. Either I go to international bars or Izakayas and get contacts. Then I try to pipeline.

Set up a date in an izakay with a british girl. She said she beats everyone with drinking - I guess its true. My response was: I'm German
Maybe she need some non Japanese dick, I try to help. Only bad thing, its about 45 minutes away from my place. I live more close to Ikebukuro then to Shibuya.
