UOB is the easiest. Their only major requirement is that you need a 50,000 baht initial deposit which you can withdraw right away if you want.

Hi

Can anyone tell me what the situation with Visa runs is these days, when I spent time in Thailand many years ago I was doing runs to Cambodia, but I heard they are stricter now

Thanks

Last time I was in Bangkok a few years ago I blew through my savings like a complete retard due to lack of planning and getting raped on pretty much every transaction because I was a naive rookie. I wish I had at least spent my money plowing through hookers but unfortunately it was all sucked into the bottomless pit of western food and overpriced short term accommodation + gym fees.

I'm headed back this week and plan on being a little smarter this time around. I'm gonna find a cheap month to month condo/serviced apartment somewhere along the BTS but that's the easy part. Can anyone recommend a clean, cheap spot I can eat at consistently 2-3 times a day forever? Street food is OK once in a while but I don't want to make it a staple of my diet because of the toxic cooking oil they tend to use. Also have you guys found any accessible pay per session gyms that aren't insanely priced?

Whether it's food, drinks, lifting, daygaming or whatever I'm down to meet so feel free to hit me up if you're around.

I ate street food everyday when I was there and never felt better in my life. Terminal21 food court I suppose, but it's kinda the same stuff but indoors.

Tony's on Suk19 if it's still open. Bare bones basic and more expensive than what one would pay in the west but it gets the job done. Either there or get raped at a BKK chain gym.

Protip: the overpriced chain gyms in prime locales also have the hottest girls working out there. By working out I mean posing for Instagram. But hey, who am I to judge if you can make it work. I'd rather just go Demo or Onyx though.

For cheap food (less than 80 Baht per meal), you basically have 3 options in Bangkok:

  1. Food courts in the mall. I think Terminal 21 and MBK are the cheapest. Tesco Lotus food court is also pretty cheap. Food republic (in Siam Center and some Central Plaza's) is rather expensive.
  2. Street restaurants with plastic chairs and no AC. They serve almost every Thai dish there is. You can eat for 100-120 Baht if you order a drink too.
  3. Streetfood stalls. They range from deep fried unhealthy shit you mentioned to very simple and healthy dishes like noodle soup with pork and dumplings or a simple portion of rice with slices of chicken for only 30-35 Baht. It can be a bit tricky to find them though (to find the rice with chicken dish, just look out for a real or a plastic chicken displayed in a glass case). They are usually in some small communities about 5-10 minutes away from a main street. I would recommend to just invite a girl and tell her that you want streetfood near your place. She will find it.

Gyms: check out this post:

https://www.thailandstarterkit.com/healt...k-fitness/

I am currently at Tony's gym in Asoke. It is 500 Baht for 2 weeks and 900 Baht for a month. They have everything I need (squat rack, pull up bar, barbells, benches, dumbbells) but everything only once. So if you are unlucky you have to wait for half an hour until the squat rack is free. If you are going in the early afternoon though, there are almost no people.

Last year I have been to Yak Fitness in On Nut (https://www.facebook.com/YAK.Fitness/). It is 100 Baht per day or 1,000 Baht per month. But no squat rack, no real bench to bench press (only a smith machine) and no pull up bar.

What you didn't mention is the SIM card. I am not sure how much the prepaid SIM cards are, but at the dtac shop in Siam Paragon you can get a postpaid SIM card which is usually more value for money. All you need is a copy of your passport and a VISA or MasterCard. I tried 2 other dtac shops and the shops of other phone providers and all of them asked for a work permit in order to get a postpaid SIM.

^Appreciate the reply my man.

Ahhhh I actually remember Tony's, I think i found it in the last week of my stay a couple of years ago. Before finding it I was paying one of the posh gyms some exorbitant rate that I forget. But yeah I'm usually in the gym 1-2 pm and I don't ever remember seeing more than 2-3 other people in the gym so it'll be perfect.

The food courts will hold me over till I find an alternative. I was using Paleo Robbie deliveries last time and while the quality was high you're basically consistently paying way more than Western prices so not ideal unless you're ballin'.

Haven't even thought about the SIM but I'll take your advice and head to Siam Paragon.

I'm anxious to get there, aside from my financial retardation I had an absolute blast in Bangkok and can't wait to go back.

I'm sitting in Tony's now writing this. Not the greatest gym (aircon is shit and dodgy clientele) but definitely one of the best value in BKK. Heavy weights and plenty of machines. Gets the job done.

There's a Jetts open in Bangkok. Might be of interest to Aussie and Kiwi forum members. You can use your Australian membership card there. In the middle of nowhere though, in Phapla (sp) Town in Town. Very decent set up though.

Bangkok is the type of place where you take a girl out, and she whips out her phone and shows the LINE Ids of two of her friends. You say you don't know them, but she says yes you do. Sure enough you search their names in your LINE and you talked to both before.

True story:

I'm sitting in Bonchon chicken at Terminal 21 with a Tinder date for dinner. The table to the left of me is 2 foreigners, a French guy and a girl from who the fuck cares. Both white and didn't come to BKK together based on the conversation. Both are actively on their phones as well. He's clearly trying to bang her.

Part of the convo: Girl: So why did you decide to come to Thailand? For the girls?
Guy: No way! I wanted to travel the world, see new things, blah blah blah

I catch a glimpse of the guy's phone during a pause and he's msging his buddy saying he fucked a ladyboy. His buddy cheers him on via text. The white girl is on her phone as well. French guy gets up and goes to the washroom. Girl LINE calls an unknown friend:

Girl: I'm at dinner with a guy.
Girl: Oh I don't know. He's French.
Girl: What?? You fucked a French guy too?

I'm on LINE too and am juggling the rotation of potentials. The girl I'm with gets sloppy with her phone angle and I catch she's msging on Tinder.

God I love BKK.

Just a heads up, Tony's fitness isn't doing day passes anymore. 500 baht for two weeks is still great value though. Like Ragnar said, there is only one of everything so you don't want to go lift when it's packed.

Tip - if you're stopping by terminal 21 for a quick, cheap meal, shoot down to the supermarket on the bottom floor first. They have a decent take-out salad bar which can instantly enhance whatever processed meat and noodle dish you're gonna get upstairs. I grab some broccoli and olives personally. They try to discourage me from getting too many green olives which are expensive by offering a tiny spoon that only fits one at a time so if you're passing by I'll be the guy surgically emptying out their olive tray one olive at a time.

Anyone living here that's found a go-to place for a good haircut?
RagnarLothbrok 路 2016-07-27 02:20:00 路 #1502
^I always go to Never Say Cutz at Siam Square. A haircut is 350 Baht but make sure to show them a picture of what you want as their english skills are very limited.

Sounds like a pretty shitty date dude. I wouldn't have my phone out if I'm having a date usually, and I would fucking bail if I saw the girl I was with using tinder.

@CodyB: Fair enough, and to each their own. We smashed at the end of the night, so I got what I came for.

With Thailand getting so much love from the forum members over such a long period of time I would just to point out the easiest way to tell if the bird you are hooking up with is a ladyboi or not , in case this isn't already commonly known across the forum . Pick up a Thai bird and let her drive back to the apartment and see if she can park in reverse . voila !
Kdog 路 2016-07-28 04:12:00 路 #1506
Thai's can't drive, or park. Male or female. That's not a good test to conduct.
Cavatine 路 2016-07-28 04:35:00 路 #1507
@NapoleonDynamighty

haha that麓s not true. I hang up with some girls in BKK and they drove very well including parking. But otherwise i met some, the could麓t hit a parking spot for a bus Wink

BTW: Ladyboys in Thailand are one reason why this is such an amazing country. Never had problems to recognize LBs
Kdog 路 2016-07-28 04:44:00 路 #1508
Why are you such a Cuck?
jj90 路 2016-07-28 12:11:00 路 #1509
You can almost always tell a ladyboy, something will always be...off. Most often it's the voice.

Those who say you can't tell a ladyboy were really just looking for one. Not judging, just sayin.

For haircuts: i used to go to Phontip Hair(?) by Phaya thai (google it). Good value, the guy is meticulous.
booshala 路 2016-07-28 22:55:00 路 #1510
Don't ladyboy's tend to use "ha" instead of "ka" or "krup"?

Sweet dude.

Gotta love that Bangkok carousel!

It's not universal.

But if you have a half decent eye, you should be able to patch it together with two or free variables.

Hands
Shoulders
Voice

If the 'chick' is >165cm, has D cup breasts and a fake nose I'd say there's a >50% chance.
Cheetah 路 2016-07-29 10:44:00 路 #1513
What about checking the id for the true gender?

Are fake ID cards commonplace?

Yeah, height and exaggerated femininity seem to be the big tells for katooey in my book. My last mini-relationship in BKK is 170cm, with a low, sultry voice... Up to the point I put it in, I was thinking to myself, "shit, is this a guy, WTF..." but after getting up inside of her and feeling that familiar warmth/wetness, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Still one of the top 5 bangs of my life.
CodyB 路 2016-07-30 23:17:00 路 #1515
ahh the traditional cycle of the BKK datasheet

Where do I stay? > Where's the nearest gym? > how can I tell she isn't a ladyboy?
