I'll be in Bangkok for a short trip on the 14 - 20 (next week). From what I have read, RCA is only busy from Thursday - Saturday?

Where do you guys recommend for Mon - Wed? I will be staying near Phra Khanong.

Best quality around Khao San area when I was living in BKK was at Molly on Rambutri on Friday and Saturdays - would often see actresses and singers there. Next probably Bangkok Bar on Rambutri, or Oh Bar (not on Rambutri but off one of the roads at the island at the bottom of the road). Brick Bar used to get a lot of Thammassat and Chula girls on weekends but can be a bad ratio / patchy quality. Deep in my experience was usually a notch down and more teenage, and often a bit too busy. For bars, Bua Sa-aat opposite Molly was always my pick (same owner as Molly, also same owner of Brick Bar, 999, Mulligans, and many others). Other options are a few of the bars up on Phra-aathit road, hippie de-bar on Khao San, and if I hadn't pulled in the clubs then the street bar opposite Buddy after closing time. Haven't been back for a while but looking at what I see on social media these places still look to be open. They are mostly very Thai though so you need to be comfortable with that.

The area wouldn't be my top pick for nightlife, but it's a decent option.

It's nearly 3 in the morning, and this was by far the worst night in Bangkok... and probably one of the worst nights I've had in a long time. CleanSlate is not smiling in the Land of Smiles right now.

- I became yet another victim of those hungry ATM machines. I forgot my only atm card in there when I withdrew my cash. Pissed at myself because I knew about this as some other forum members warned me about it, and yet I still forgot. I ran back to the ATM and the bank doesn't open until morning.

I'll have to go back right before they open and hope to convince them to open up that ATM and give me my card back. If they don't do that, I'll have to cancel it with my bank... in which case, I'm fucked. Especially with that Indonesian trip coming up and I don't know how good they are with credit cards, plus I need to pay cash for taxis.

- I thought I brought 2 debit cards and 1 credit card, but I actually brought 1 debit card and 2 credit cards. So I have no way to withdraw cash from an ATM unless I do this cash advance thing from an ATM but I don't want to do it unless I absolutely have to.

- To top this off, I realized that 3000 baht had gone mysteriously missing when I was counting my cash. Knowing with 100% certainty that no one stole anything, it was when I looked at the 100 baht note and compared it with the 1000 baht note that I knew what had happened. The 100 THB and 1000 THB looked pretty similar to me, and I mixed up the two. So I gave 3000 THB to some eatery thinking I paid only 300. I ran back to the establishment, and they were closed. Idiot move on my part.

- Hoping to have a happy ending on this mistake-filled night, I swooped some girl off the street... and then I started thinking "wait a minute, this is too easy." So I asked her if she was a ladyboy, and "she" said yes. So here I am writing this post instead of banging my frustrations away on some hot Thai chick.



Hope I come up with better news tomorrow and for the rest of the trip.

RCA is great on weekends, Route 66 was a pussy factory when I was there. Monday to Thursday I suggest going on tinder then going to a rooftop bar. If you are white with any sort aesthetics you will match every single girl. However, make sure you read the profile as it's polluted with ladyboys. If you don't want to do tinder, just go to Sukhumvit 55, Thong Lor area since you're in that area. There are lots of random bars and the girls are of much higher quality than khaosan but competition will be much higher.

I agree. Ko Kut is a great island. One tip is to book a resort on the beach. Some beaches are private.

I rented a motorbike to check out beaches and waterfalls. 300 Baht per day.

Fishing village built on stilts has a seafood restaurant on pier. Worth checking out. I ate white crayfish with garlic and pepper sauce.

During my time there it seemed to be filling up with more and more white dudes each week. At that rate I would think it is completely saturated by now.

Thai immigration in BK (DMK or BKK) doesn't care if you have an outgoing flight if you arrive with or without a visa as a U.S citizen. The problem is that some airlines may question, or in rare cases refuse boarding, if you don't have an outgoing ticket when you check in to fly to Bangkok. You can get a single entry (60 day) visa or even book a refundable/cheap ticket to a neighbouring country. I always recommend getting as much visa as you can before you arrive, unless you are sure you will leave in a month or two. You wouldn't be the first guy to plan a trip to SEA/Thailand for a few weeks or a month and decide you don't want to leave.

Immigration itself rarely cares, however in the case that they do, the airline in question is on the hook for getting you back to your point of departure if you have been denied entry, which is why they nearly always require an onward flight at check in. I always use this in these situations: http://www.flyonward.com

For 10 bucks they issue you (AKA "lease" you), through a real booking agency, a real, actual ticket valid for 24 hours that you can show as your proof of onward flight, so you don't have to dabble with printing fake tickets or floating bigger amounts of cash just to purchase and later cancel a proper flight.

Beirut, you're not missing anything. Not only Expedia, but the vast majority of full service airlines allow you to cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking even if you paid. I actually don't understand why anyone would use flyonward when there are other options that will not cost a dime.

If you book a flight, then that money is gone for the time being - even if you cancel the ticket it can take a few days for it to be refunded back. As I usually only keep a few hundred bucks on my (prepaid) credit card, this matters to me, but to US guys and other heavy credit card users it may not matter that much.

You guys should be careful. Not all airlines have these cancellation policies in place and many airlines require round-trip travel originating in the US. Read Delta's cancellation policy. A Tokyo to Atlanta one way doesn't qualify (although legally it should, but that's another debate).

Still though, this service is probably just buying your "tickets' off of an online travel agency (a fee free one) with a forgiving cancellation policy.

I would say that if you can't float the $100 or so to cancel the cheapest one way out of your destination then you shouldn't be traveling at all.
