Ward fought in a higher weight class and finished his career 2 weight classes above. You're not comparing like for like.
The timing of this fight is what edged it Canelo's way. If the fight had been made back when Canelo willingly gave up the belt rather than face GGG who was his mandatory challenger at the time I think we would have been looking at a different outcome. Sad to say but no boxer can beat father time and GGG is now on the slide.
Oscar might be a cross dressing coke fiend but he's not silly when it comes to boxing.
Golovkin used Ward's name to hype himself up back when Ward was at 168. The Golovkin camp were constantly making out that Ward was ducking him, but when the Ward camp reached out to try and make the fight on a few occasions - no response. Golovkin is even on tape saying he wasn't ready for Ward when all the while they were claiming in media that Ward was ducking him, and they just carried on fighting bums while HBO hyped him up and all the morons started falling for it.
The classic one was when they teased at making the Lara fight talking about a 'south paw with a cuban style' but it turned out to be Willie Monroe Jr lol.
I really don't know why the forum loves Golovkin so much. He is a decent boxer with good power, but he's nothing special. Canelo himself is another boxer that was hyped out of all proportion when De La Hoya was first bringing him out (look what Mayweather did to him, even Trout had him struggling, and Lara made him look a right fool punching thin air), and Golovkin can't even beat him (at least not convincingly).
Anyone watch Groves vs Smith today? Nice match, I was really impressed with Callum Smith (that counter hook in the 7th!) although I'm sure Groves' shoulder dislocation when fighting Eubanks had a lot to do with his relative ineffectiveness.
I heard boxing is going downhill and its no longer a sport people are watching based on the GGG vs. Canelo numbers.
1 million pay-per view buys for that fight. Its still pretty good, but in a country of over 300 million people (USA) 1 million is pretty low, especially compared to Superbowl ratings (103 million in the U.S. watched) or NBA Finals (17 million Americans watched game 4 last year).
I think the lack of American stars and people not connecting with the foreign stars is what is driving the sport down.
Only Floyd Mayweather has represented USA all this time, but even he is hated by Americans as well, where as the other 3 are beloved by their countrymen.
England is carrying boxing at the moment, MMA is completely taking over elsewhere. I mean, it's great for my country, and Anthony Joshua will most likely retire with hundreds of millions of pounds, but for boxing as a sport it's a sad state of affairs.

Terrance Crawford is such a good guy too. He isn't animated or fun like with his personality. Floyd knew how to play the villain to the highest degree.
Crawford is the best American boxer aside from some of the very young guys like Shakur Stevenson, etc.
UK boxing might be carrying things, but are those three fuckers ever going to fight each other? Fury, Joshua, Wilder? I have completely tuned out the circus until someone actually fights because it is too annoying to watch the circus.

Boxing has definitely been killed from a combination of a few things:
- PPV and managers choosing fights based on risk/reward, not what people want to see. If you look at Tyson fury on Joe Rogan yesterday he has a good point of AJ not having any need to fight a big name when he can just fight 3-4 mediocre fighters and pull the same amount of money, while having a much smaller chance of loosing (and maintain his "unbeatable" status).
- The entire weight classes and belts system which is a completely joke nowaday.
- The rising of MMA from early 2000s onward. This is mainly in the US market but its popularity is growing in England and rest of Europe too.
- No big name in heavyweight after Tyson. We had 15 years of klitschko being a champion, which has alienated so many people from watching boxing due to how boring his style is to the average casual fan.
I don't see boxing as a sport dying in the next century, but its popularity will definitely go down slowly.
Fury made the point of the heabyweight champ being based in Europe with Wlad/Vitali and that was a reason for Deontay Wilder not being more famous. However, Wilder is an American heavyweight champion now, so that can't be completely accurate. I think the astronomical prices Americans have to shell out for PPV must be a contributing factor — it's why I don't get the negativity toward Eddie Hearn's DAZN proposal.
I don't think it's simply 'we don't want some Brit coming here and taking over boxing' pro-America thing though, because Americans didn't mind Simon Cowell coming over and taking over the entire talent show market. A much more affordable cost would boost American boxing for sure, in the UK it doesn't need boosting as since roughly 2013 (when Eddie Hearn came to prominence) it's as big as it's been since the early-mid 90s. Ricky Hatton would be the only major standout in the lean years post-Lennox.

Wilder being champion and 9 out of 10 people of random people on the street not knowing who the fuck he is, the absolute state of heavyweight boxing nowadays.
If you look back in the years even people that never watched a boxing match in their life would know who Ali, Frazier, Tyson or Holyfield were.
AJ is a big star in UK, but mainly because he was a council house boy that made it big not for his boxing skills since he has only fought bums if we don't count end-of-his-career Klitchko, and he even sort of struggled in his two fights after winning the title.
AJ is also a (London) Olympic champion — that's a hugely contributing factor. I'll admit he was gifted the gold, but he deserved silver. You don't get that far at amateur if you have no skills. He's a better technical fighter than Wilder, but both are a bettered by Fury, skill-wise. Just a shame Fury can't punch at the top level, maybe that's the trade off to fight on the back foot as he does. AJ also delivered knockouts in all his early fights a la Mike Tyson, and for the casual fan - that's what they want. As Rogan and Fury discussed. They don't care if they're bums - Mike Tyson also fought a ton of bums on his way up. It's an entertainment business just as much as a sport. It's prizefighting after all.
A large reason for the success of UK boxing in the past half-decade is the popularity of fan channels like IFL TV that give the general public access to fighters in a way Sky Sports etc can't. Candid interviews where they're friendly with the hosts and can talk as mates. There are some American ones too, like Seconds Out and Behind the Gloves, but they're almost both de facto based in Britain more these days since American boxing is really in a bad place and has been for some time. I think it can recover though, as I said in the post you quoted. Most of my favourite fighters are Americans, so I'm not a hater by the way, despite me continuously mentioning America's boxing decline.
Though I have to admit my favourite fighter for sheer entertainment was 'Prince' Naseem Hamed. It's funny how back then his religion was seen as some quaint little thing, cute almost, how times have changed since 9/11. Guy's a geezer though, and a good example of multiculturalism done right.

A good big guy beats a good little guy. Spence by KO.
Totally agree. They're both great. At the same weight, I'd go with Garcia due to his experience. But Spence outweighs him by about 12 pounds, and that's a lot! Go with Spence.
Planned to make a post on the upcoming Wilder v. Fury fight, but I got distracted by the Feminine mannerisms off (I assume heterosexual) LA men in this video. Something strange seems to be going on over there!
Fury is looking slim and fit I must say though. I think a decision in favour off Fury is a likely result. If the judges are fair. Could be a great fight despite the lackluster interest from fans and media. Seems like the fight is bigger in the UK, even though it`s happening in LA.
Jonny, the fight is massive in the UK. Why they're staging it over in LA is beyond me. Wilder would have made more money over here. You could say he wants hometown favour with judging, but even he must know if this goes to points Fury will be miles ahead... barring a robbery.
Fury looks fit and he's the more skilled of the two. I can't help feel that he could have done with another fight or two before this one though. Hope he wins though, he's funny as fuck.
Just chucked £20 on Fury to win by KO/Stoppage. I know it's a highly unlikely result (8/1 - not sure what that translates to in the decimal format used in the US) but makes it more fun to watch, and I would love it to happen.

Yo AJ, stay humble bro!
“I like the guy, he’s doing well, he’s got a good body.... I bet he’s got a big cock an all. Probably I wish I had it”

It`s not very likely, but I wouldn`t be shocked if Tyson stops him in the later rounds either. The bookies I`ve checked gives about 3.2x your money on a Fury decision win...maybe worth throwing 10£ in that direction as a hedge?
