What is your experience managing professional boxers? Or something similar?

I thought you were dead. I should probably answer you in private.

I was dead. Deleted most of my posts. Long story. Anyway, like Jesus, I am back from the dead. I can't do any other cool stuff though, like changing water into wine.

Are you going to the fight tomorrow? I didn't even consider it. I was there for Alvarez/Khan. I'll be at the September Alvarez fight and for Mayweather/McGregor if it ever happens.

No, didn't even think about going. Bought the PPV, against my better judgment...and FELL ASLEEP! At least the GGG announcement was interesting.

Next fight i'm going to is Terrance Crawford in NYC. He's super-talented and i like his attitude. He's not playing.

Damn, that shit did not work out for me on the Alvarez/Chavez fight... just couldn't get myself to hedge with Alvarez straight win @ -500, so I gambled with the bets I described...

To recuperate from my loss, I've been watching clips of GGG speaking his unique brand of English on youtube clips... Hope that the beating Canelo put on Chavez is gonna sway all the Mexican money for some relatively favorable odds.
booshala 路 2017-05-26 23:15:00 路 #1278
Man, they already got some lines on the GGG/Canelo fight. -180 Golovkin/+140 Alvarez. Obviously GGG didn't look as dominant against Jacobs, but maybe this is an overreaction to the pounding that Canelo gave Chavez Jr. earlier this month. Looks like a great bet to me, I'm in.

It looks like the McGregor/Mayweather fight is official -- August 26. I'm going!

realologist 路 2017-06-14 19:16:00 路 #1280
Quoting myself from this thread about Mayweather v McGregor.

Quote:The only way this would be interesting is if halfway through the fight it switched to MMA rules. That way Mayweather had to try to end the fight in 6 rounds or McGregor would wreck him once it hit MMA rules.

Mayweather is going to win handly by just doing why he always does. Technical, defensive and counter punch boxing. It will be a boring fight. It will be a positive for McGregor if he gets a solid hit and hurts Mayweather a little. Wouldn't be surprised if he DQs from the rule differences though

The event on Aug 26th is more of a spectacle...though I would love to take an MMA fans bread
The REAL fight is June 17th - Ward v. Kovalev 2
or even GGG v Canelo

Both will be fight of the year candidates

The fight:

Was it just me, or did Ward keep hitting Kovalev low, and ref Tony Weeks ignored it?

It was borderline. The ref could have given Kovalev 5 minutes to recover.

Would it have changed the outcome of the fight? Probably not, Ward would have won the latest rounds as Kovalev was getting exhausted.

I still think Kovalev got robbed in the 1st fight however, so it should be 1-1.

It's not the end for the Krusher, there's still plenty of interesting fights left for him (Stevenson, Beterbiev, Alvarez), and he would probably beat all of them.

A Kovalev/Beterbiev fight would sell really well in Russia, and would be really nice to watch.

Anyone else watch Pacman somehow lose to Horn? I'm not sure wtf I just saw. Pretty sure I just rewatched Rocky, except Rocky won and still went on to yell "Adrian!"

Looking forward to the rematch on this one.

I watched the fight and thought I watched a clear Horn loss.
Dirtyblueshirt 路 路 #1287
Someone definitely got paid off. And one judge with 117-111 for Horn? What fight were they watching?

Just look at the compubox stats. Pac dominated every category. This is one of the big reasons people are tired of boxing, the obvious corruption that runs the sport.

Robbery. I've seen worse though (Williams and Lara for example).

I put this in the high status men with ugly girlfriends/wives thread, but it deserves a plug here.

I didn't even realise the fight was on in the early morning Eastern European time. I avoid a lot of Australian news while overseas.

I cant fault the decision. Ive watched australian fighters get robbed blind when fighting overseas for decades. Its about time we got a chance to apply the same bias.

What the fuck is Joe Horn smiling about?

The fuck, thats not Jeff Horns mom? He must be in the closet.

You did.

The reason MMA came out of nowhere and took huge share from boxing is that there are many things wrong with boxing. But NOTHING is more wrong with boxing than the fact that many big fights are called the wrong way due to RIDICULOUS judging. Pacman has been the victim of two of them - the first Bradley fight, and this shit.

Since boxing isn't an organized sport like the NFL or NBA, where good officials can be rewarded and bad ones removed, the only alternative i see is computerized judging. Compubox can already count punches landed in real time. Add a chip in the gloves that measures the impact of punches, and you can triangulate around a winner for each round.

Not in the closet, just in Australia.

I don't even get surprised now when seeing our athletes and other male celebs with dumpy women.

I like the idea it would probably satisfy most of the scoring criteria i) effective aggression, ii) defense and iii) hard/clean punches but some of the other aspects (admittedly subjective ones) of the sweet science would no longer come into play iv) ring generalship.

However, the drawback to the electronic point scoring system can (or could as rules constantly change) be found in amateur boxing where volume tends to outweigh power and effective aggression. The very nature of amateur fights differs from the professional ranks and can account for the difficulty some fighters have when transitioning.

I would also be concerned that a pure point scoring system would favour defensive counter punchers leading to less exciting fights.

Don't get me wrong I too hate to see dodgy decisions. Perhaps a compromise would be to allocate a % of the available points per round to a computerised solution with the remainder to the judges.

Canelo all the way baby! I think he is quick enough to out box G Man now.

GGG by late round stoppage
booshala 路 2017-09-15 15:51:00 路 #1303
I still think GGG has more than enough in the tank to pull out a win, perhaps even decisively. I've corroborated this view with several people who's knowledge of boxing I respect and they all seem to think that "over 9 rounds", "going the distance" and straight win by GGG are all good bets.
The Father 路 2017-09-15 15:56:00 路 #1304
Hard to say. So many unknowns! Canelo's chin has never been tested by anyone with a real punch. Miguel Cotto's brother rocked him badly. If that means he can't take a punch, GGG gets him out of there. The other big unknown is GGG's state of wear. He looked mediocre the first 4 rounds against Brook; boxing people after were asking "was he sick? Something wasn't right". And against Jacobs (who, heretofore, was considered a somewhat ordinary fighter who got flattened by Dimitri Pirog), he looked unimpressive. If THAT GGG shows up, he's in trouble. Some guys get old overnight. Maybe he's washed.

So which is the bigger unknown? Canelo's chin or Golvkin's condition. Whichever is true will indicate your winner.
