My belly is looking good, I hit the gym, do heavy bench (free weights), bodyweight pull ups, curls, triceps, forearms..I do sit ups with a kettlebell on the tilted bench, obliques..and let the lean muscle mass feast on the fat..
not where I wanna be but I'm away from where I was Smile

You seem to be suggesting that the gym has been your main solution.

Yes, my eating is on point, as I said, I hardly eat out..so the only variable has been the fact that I wasn't lifting heavy like I used to..I haven't even started playing basketball yet..that will shed the final layers..

This dude is pretty lean for an older cat. What would you say his bodyfat % is?

If only you knew how bad things really are.

I'm with Rex about the body fat percentage estimate... At least it is below 10%.. Sometimes body fat percentages can be misunderstood with older guys b/c the percentages do tend to go up.

Certainly, I would say that he has a 6 pack, and some guys may aspire to achieving/maintaining that, and other guys will find it will be more realistic to be more modest in their goals.

By the way, about three years ago, I bought an Omron scale for keeping track of my body measurements. I recommend it.

There are various models; however, this is the one that i have:

I take it that when you refer to "fat burners" you are referring to some kind of supplement.

How can you tell? Are you going by the level of his leanness, and the fact that you can see muscle definition in many places around his abs?

We have NOT really explored fat burners in this thread and whether guys believe that they really work. I have my doubts, but maybe if other guys are having positive results, it may be worth considering.

Supplements or prescriptions..ephedra etc. I used to work out with a prominent bodybuilder in the UK and I can almost always eyeball a user vs a natural.

Not saying that old man is DEFINITELY on fat burners but my antenna is up.

I had a mate that used those in combo with cardio to drop about 50 pounds. He turned from the friendly guy to the guy lizards wanted to mount.

RE: Anyone got a belly that won't go away?
I've lost another 3 or so pounds over the past 2-3 weeks. I haven't noticed much change aesthetically, but I've heard 2-3 different people say to me now I am leaner and 'smaller'. The latter doesn't bother me because I plan to add muscle after I am skinnier so I'm in a better position to add mass.

I skip breakfast sometimes. I skip dinner or late night meals almost entirely. I make sure to get a decent meal in the middle of the day, especially if I trained.

Also, lately I've been going on 30 minute to 1 hour walks first thing in the morning, while listening to a spanish audio course to brush up my skills. Two birds with one stone.

You start to make progress, your appetite decreases and your momentum builds. The hardest part is getting on the right track and breaking a plateau.

I have given up for now as girls told me I look ugly facewise when I am slim. Additionally losing power sucks. So let´s see if I will find an idea to solve that problem without Testo in the future.

RE: Anyone got a belly that won't go away?
From reading bodybuilding forums, there are very few success stories on getting rid of LOWER BELLY fat. That's the fat that's below the bellybutton.
I'm talking about average people who have to work for a living, not work out for a living. All the weight training guys or personal trainers that you see on Youtube do not count. They exercise for a living.

I have been able to lose my upper belly fat. My waist went from 33 to 30 inches. I cut calories and continue lifting weights. Train at a calorie deficit. One would think that eventually the calorie deficit will melt away the lower belly fat. But no. It did not.

If you're younger in your early 20s I think it's easier to lose the lower belly fat. As you get older, it becomes harder and harder to lose that fat. The average person simply cannot work out in the gym for 8 hours a day. That's what it takes to get rid of that stubborn fat without surgery.

Fat burners are pretty much useless, just like every other supplement out there. That guy is most likely on steroids/t3.

How long have you been cutting?

I just got back to my old commercial gym, after a 3 month break to train at a facility center for athletes, and surprise surprise everyone looks the same, and they keep lifting the same numbers/doing useless exercises.

Its not just lifting weights and "work hard bro", its being smart about it. If your numbers on the main lifts havent been going up (specially as a natural lifter) you wont be gaining any muscle. If youre not tracking your macros/counting calories or weighing yourself everyday youre just in a state of homeostasis, where your body composition remains the same despite all the training.

I think it would be more benefitial to everyone who has posted on this thread to turn this into a workout log, to measure progress and track calories.

The last time I cut I was able to get rid of my upper belly fat in about 2 months. I was surprised at how easy it was actually.

Cutting just comes easy for me. It's bulking that's hard for me. I'm bulking right now so my belly is growing again. :-) Even though cutting is very easy for me, I still could not lose the lower belly fat. It became smaller but never went away.

It's men's weakest spot. From an evolutionary point of view, we are designed to retain that fat in case of famine. Since there are almost no famines nowadays, we still keep that fat around.

RE: Anyone got a belly that won't go away?
You probably only thought it was easy because most of it was water weight. The fact that youre not giving any info tells me you dont really know what youre doing.
When did you start dieting? When did you end it? Starting weight, bodyfat estimate? How many calories were you eating daily? How were you tracking those calories? Did you use keto/ carb cycling/ intermitent fasting or did you just ate what seemed less food?
Lower belly fat starts to dissapear at around 10% if you want an 8pack you definitely need to go lower probably 8%. You wont get there unless you are very dedicated, ifbb pros cut for 12 weeks to get ready for a show and thats with a lot of drugs and a starting point of no more than 10% bodyfat.
Natural bodybuilders take a lot longer to cut for a show.
Seems like you dont have a lot of knowledge on this subject, and it doesnt matter if cutting comes easy for you, the only people that i know that can maintain a 6 pack year around are athletes (swimmers, track) who train multiple times a day.

Yes same with me it was actually not that hard losing weight. But at 1.70 height I probably have to be like 62 kg to get abs. I would feel like a boy not a man. I want to weigh about 77-80kg with a lot of muscle. I am happy that I don´t have a real belly but abs are probably realistic only with T.

That whole i dont want to look too small right now easily turns into i havent seen my abs in a couple of years.
If you do a slow cut you shouldnt lose that much muscle/strength, carrying around extra fat isnt fooling anyone into thinking youre bigger than you really are.

Plus being ripped gives you a better starting point to put on more muscle. You get a much better muscle/fat ratio.

I respectfully disagree.

Losing "stubborn fat" has less to do with the gym and more to do with The Kitchen.

The gym can not create a "6-pack" or a "belly".

Only The Kitchen can create those things.

"6 packs" are made in The Kitchen

Fat stomachs are made in The Kitchen

The gym is for building muscle and burning a little excess fat.

But, the gym can not make up for a lifestyle of low quality food.

Fat stomachs and 6 packs are determined by what we eat, not how much we lift.

I'm not trying to be disagreeable but I have to be honest...

I have a decent 6 pack and I don't train multiple times a day.

I only work out 4-5 times a week for one hour each time.

I never do abs.

I have a 6 pack because nothing in my diet sticks to my belly:

Breakfast: oatmeal with blueberries and protein powder

Breakfast II: Protein shake of bananas, nuts, dates, and protein powder

Lunch: Eggs with rice, beans, salsa, and corn tortillas

Lunch II: Steak tacos

Dinner:
Fish, brown rice, salad

And, lots of water with lemon all day and lots of good sleep.

-----

If you want to lose belly fat..

Eat less and/or eat cleaner.

Try a juice fast!

(07-18-2014 03:49 PM)DavidZRH Wrote:  That's what it takes to get rid of that stubborn fat without surgery.

Surgery is not needed to remove the fat. But, it might be needed to remove the excess skin.

Have you ever seen pictures of people who are starving?

None of them have belly fat..

Why? Because they are not eating!

It sounds drastic but it would work.

Fast, diet, calorie restrict, burn calories, eat less, eat cleaner, etc.

That is the only proven way to remove belly fat without surgery.

Exercise alone is not enough.

If you want to maintain muscle mass, eat lots of clean protein and lift heavy weights.

If all else fails, pretend that you are in nazi concentration camp, eat only one bowl of soup per day. The belly will be gone within a month!

Maybe, that is unrealistic for most but it's still true.

People with limited access to food don't get belly fat.

Only people that eat too much get fat belly fat.

RE: Anyone got a belly that won't go away?
Yeah. I was an athlete in college and worked out 6 hours a day 6 days a week (almost a full time job). I could eat whatever I wanted and had a great body. In fact we had a nutritionist who helped us learn how to eat more because some dudes weren't getting enough calories. Of course being 19 didn't hurt either. The problem was that whenever someone got injured or had to stop working out with the team they were used to eating 6000 Calories per day and ballooned up like a stuffed pig in a matter of weeks.

Even if you have the time and discipline to workout that much you're unlikely to stay fit long term due to injury and illness. Everybody gets sick. Everybody gets injured. If you rely on the gym to burn off your excess calories you will ultimately fail. Focusing on what you eat is a much better strategy because it automatically accommodates changes in lifestyle. It provides a lifelong strategy for fitness that doesn't depend on your acute health or the amount of free time you have.

Everybody also gets older, that is if we are lucky. Accordingly, our bodies cannot process bad nutrients as well, and it gets more difficult to maintain muscle mass. Many times guys are still naturally and without much effort growing muscle, into their mid-to-late 20s.

That ability to maintain muscle mass tapers off in the 30s and thereafter.
