I did suggest to you that resistance training is a good thing to incorporate into your weekly routine, and I suppose that I was suggesting that resistance training could be better than cardio overall, yet I am not really against some cardio training, and I suppose whether you do cardio depends upon your objectives. If you are an MMA fighter, then you probably need some cardio training in order to outlast your opponent, no? If you are trying to improve your belly, then cardio training may have less of a purpose, and there are likely better exercise avenues towards that objective, no?

This is the first time I'll be doing a resistance training and build up stamina. (@JayJuanGee, you just reminded me to update my dormant BodyBuilding.com account.)

But yeah, I'll intend to do a lot of machine lifts, which allows me to do full-body exercises. Besides, I need to build forearm strength without being a literal wanker.

In addition, since I'm averse to doing alternating muscle days, I wonder if I'd be able to do full-body exercises on one day, then resistance/stamina the next.

@Moma, yeah, dealing with candida is a lifestyle change, starting from diet. I can easily buy green veggies at Food 4 Less.

I understand that a lot of areas of physical health can be related and goals can overlap, and I was attempting to somewhat refrain from deviating too much from this particular thread topic... because if part of your goal is to work on your belly fat or something related to your belly, then we are kind of on topic, but if your goals concern addressing candida and building stamina, then maybe we are deviating from this thread topic somewhat, no?

I realize that you may have been just joking regarding forearm strength, yet if wanking is your only exercise, then you are probably in some kinds of trouble.

Even in respect to actual sex, I understand that sex can be quite a work out, depending upon how much effort a guy puts into it. I tend to characterize myself as a kind of serial serial monogamist (and I am currently in an LTR with sex on average about 3 times per week), yet I find that the most sex for me has tended to come during the earliest stages of any LTR that I am in, which may be up to 10 times per week in the beginning of the relationship.. The sex seems to be a kind of cardio work out, and probably resistance training would be better for preparing for sex rather than cardio training...

Tim, Candida basically feeds largely on sugar and is like a parasite in the body. To address this, you need to introduce an agent to the body that will kill it off and also ensure that you are sustaining your body with good bacteria (probiotics) in the process of killing the Candida. To prevent the Candida from being able to regroup from the attack that you are waging upon it, you need to reduce intake of sugary foods that it can feed on. The presence of Candida is often what causes the bloating in men.

I'm pretty sure I've been in the candida realm for quite a long time, thing is, it doesn't really bother me except for loose stools (use psyllium). I'm not sure what will kill it since I love to eat cheese and drink occasionally, or the carbs in modern life are a big supporter of it. I don't really get bloating, but sometimes fart.

You ever have it then knock it out?

Are you conceding that you have a belly issue too, or merely the candida?

Regarding the Mercola article, there is a suggestion to cut out sugars and grains, but no real discussion about adding good fats to satiate, nutrition and preventing you from overdoing other forms of foods (such as proteins that may cause too much glucose production, if you do not have sufficient fats).

I think that there has been some mixed reviews of probiotics, and questioning whether if eaten in dietary form they make it through the stomache and into the lower gut where they may be needed. Certainly, I am not suggesting to cut the probiotics, but there may be a bit of overrating of their effectiveness.

There is also the recent discussion of the prebiotics - in the form of resistant starches, which supposedly are better at getting to the lower gut.

I agree with your overall premise, Moma, and that is getting rid of the bad gut flora and adding more of the good gut flora in order to balance things out.

If you are in your 20s, then maybe you can live fairly normally with such a condition because your body is generally strong, yet I would imagine that the older you get, the more issues you are going to likely experience as a result of this bad gut flora.

I find it a bit curious that if you know you have such a situation in your body, yet you do not feel motivated to nip it in the bud and to get it cleared up.... and the solution seems to be to modify your diet mostly, though maybe adjusting your sleep and exercise could also be helpful, too.

In the end, you are the one who needs to recognize it as a problem and to be motivated to do something about it in order that it does not get worse and cause other health, including inflammation issues.

On the other hand, I can maybe relate to your situation if you are suggesting that you have already taken as many measures as you are willing to take in order to lessen the impact of the issue, and in that case, you are likely just putting off a potential need to address the issue later down the road.

1) "I know works" -- If you know it works, do it aggressively and make it work better!. The things that we know and feel and see to be working.. Those are the things to focus on and improve. I call it "body intuition". You know your body better than anyone else.

2) "Exercise 5-7x per week" -- For a man in his 40s, this might actually be too much.. I know that sounds crazy but give it some thought. For me, working out less and focusing more on HIGH QUALITY MEALS and REST actually has a BETTER RETURN ON INVESTMENT versus working out more and resting less + not eating as good.

I literally look and feel better when I exercise less AND focus more on quality food and quality sleep.

Quality rest and food builds your body from the "inside out" versus exercise which builds your body from the "outside in".

1 hour spend preparing large amounts of high quality food is SOMETIMES SUPERIOR to one hour of exercise!

I'm just throwing that out there for you guys to ponder... it is something that I believe in and live by.

3) "Sleep" -- This is the "x-factor" for many older men. Quality sleep is priceless! Hours BEFORE midnight have the greatest return on investment!

I want to add two suggestion to your plan.

1) -- Reduce your consumption of red meat and reduce your overall meat consumption.(Except, maybe for fish)

Meat, takes a long time for our body to process. It often lingers in the digestive tract.

Reducing meat almost certainly reduce belly size.

The hard part is finding other foods to use in the place of meat.

Honestly, the first weeks are hard but once you learn to use eggs, garbanzos, quinoa, avocados, legumes, tofu, nuts, etc. -- IT BECOMES ENJOYABLE TO WATCH YOUR BELLY FAT MELT AWAY AND YOU REALIZE THAT LARGE AMOUNTS OF MEAT ARE NOT ALWAYS NECESSARY TO FEEL GREAT AND LOOK GREAT.

I eat chicken maybe once or twice a week.

Fish whenever I want.

Red meat, occasionally.

I beautiful steak, whenever I feel I need one.

2) Follow the Shit! -- If a food seems to be flushing your system and making you shit, Study it, learn from it.. Develop a better and more consistent shitting routine.

When we lose out belly, we literally SHIT IT AWAY!

Remember that.
