RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
Thanks, I have the 10 round one that came with the rifle when he passed away, and all I can find up here are the small 5rd mags.

I would just be happy with another 2 or 3 10rd ones.

Next step is going across the border to buy 1000rds of .30 ammunition.

Just a heads up: you can bring back up to 5000 rds of ammo and import non-restricted* firearms (provided you have a PAL) as long as you declare them at the border. However none of that can legally be exported without the required permits from the US. A lot of people chance it and get away with it, but the long and short of it is, if you get stopped for whatever reason by law enforcement (speeding, busted tail light etc.), on your way to the border, I am sure they would not hesitate to bring the full force of the law to bear.

Sorry to be a bucket of cold water; in the end it's up to you to decide if it's worth the risk vs. the cheap ammo (factoring in the exchange rate). I don't recall offhand what the permits are or whether they are from State Dept or ATF, it's been a while since I looked into it.

*for restricted, it used to be the case that you needed your ATT lined up in advance, not sure if or how that has changed.

I have a my share guns and worked at a gun store for years. Get a 12ga and a 9mm handgun and a ruger 10/22. You now have all 3 platforms of firearms to learn on in common and reliable ammunition sizes. Pm for specifics. Smile

Yeah this was always a factor. I used to do A LOT of shooting in WA at a friends (Canadian) cabin. We would hit the hardware store, grab a case of beer and head out to the gravel pit.

Whats the difference between being stopped in WA with ammo for use in the US vs being stopped in WA with ammo that 'might be used in Canada?'

With the exchange rate now, its a bit more reasonable but still 1000rds for $400 in the US is amazingly tempting.

The cop would have to prove intent. If he asked where I was going, I'd just say "to the store"...that happens to be conveniently located on the way to Canada. If you're on I-5 just say you're going to Big Al's Diner....which is close to the border.

True enough. I'm thinking of a crossing closer to me where there are a couple of miles of Interstate between the last possible exit or turnoff and the border. Also, I have a feeling that as a non-resident/non-citizen I would not enjoy the same legal protections and rights against search and seizure.

Maybe I'm just being overly cautious, or maybe I'm thinking of millions of gang-bangers streaming across the southern border, while Canadians get detained for hours for having imported a Kinder Egg. Soft target.

Don't mean to derail the thread from firearms to politics. I'll try to take a look at what permits are required and if they're all that difficult to come by. I think any guns/ammo are automatically considered ITAR goods, not sure.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
I've been doing quite a few AR builds lately. Mostly 80% lower builds for friends who don't want their name on a 4473. I did finish a 9mm AR pistol that takes Glock mags. It's going to get SBR'd and my buddy (who is a class 3 manufacturer) has a can on order for it. I've been working a few local MG shoots as well. I've learned how much I hate Micro Uzis and guys that think because they can handle Daddy's 12-gauge they can handle a little machine pistol.

Not on here much anymore. I'm either out on 2 wheels or trying to kill something.

Here's what I could dig up.

ATF page

Quote:Every person who receives explosive materials must first obtain a Federal explosives license or permit. Distribution of explosive materials to persons who do not hold a license or permit is unlawful.

US CBP page

Quote:To apply for an export license, you will do so through the Simplified Network Application Process Redesign (SNAP-R). SNAP-R allows for electronic submission of your application, updates on your application status, and printing of your license once it is approved. The Bureau of Industry and Security very rarely and only in exceptional cases will accept paper applications. Please contact them directly at 202-482-4811 on how to file a paper application.

Additionally, to export a shotgun, shotgun parts, or shotgun ammunition, an Electronic Export Information (EEI) submission via the Automated Export (AES) must be made.

RCMP/ Cdn Firearms Program page

Quote:Non-residents who choose to have the Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) export their firearm directly to Canada do not require the hunting licence/permit, the alien or admission number, or the proof of 90-day residency.

However, when selling a firearm to a non-resident who is taking possession of the firearm and who will personally export it, the FFL must see a valid State-issued hunting licence or permit (unless the non-resident falls into another exception category, such as a diplomat or law enforcement officer.) Other accepted documentation, besides the hunting licence/permit, is an invitation to a competitive target or sport-shooting event, but the non-resident must meet the 90-day residency requirement.

Finally, Gun Owners of Canada page

Quote:(anecdotal) US export permits cost in the thousands of dollars and only US citizens can apply. There is no legal way for a lowly Canadian to legally export ITAR restricted items out of the US. You would have to arrange export through a licensed exporter.
You can't legally export the ammo from the US. Even being in possession of ammo without the proper paperwork is a no no.

Long story short, seems overly complicated and or cost-intensive enough to make it not worth it. In the end, your risk/reward calculus will decide for you. Happy hunting.

Yes.

I bought my first one last week, a scoped SMLE No 1 Mk III .303.

I used to have a thing for firearms from the world wars, and bought this one for a bargain.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
The problem with US-Canada ammo and gun part purchasing is how strict the US side is on exports, but conversely, the Canadian side has much more lax rules on *importing* ammo. A Canadian can bring in under 5000 rounds of ammo no questions asked. The problem is if you are caught with the ammo while still in the US by any kind of local authority.

Excellent datasheet off of 4chan. The autists over there spit out great material:

http://i.imgur.com/mYOSMtm.jpg

I've owned a .22 Ruger for some time to ease into firearm operation. Then I saw this video which is absolutely hilarious and awesome at the same time:

When I first saw it, I really wanted to buy that gun, but it's $1,600. What I did instead was buy the lower from that company, which contains the engravings. The rest I bought as a kit and assembled. I had a friend help me, but there are lots of youtube videos out there that can walk you through it. I probably spent just over $500 for everything.

For those considering purchasing a more advanced firearm like an AR15 (as opposed to a pea shooter), don't forget about maintenance and cleaning. Cleaning patches, CLP, Hoppe's #9, cleaning rod, all that good stuff.

God damnit, Ruger.

Gawd-freaking-damnit.

Could you not have added 9 measly mils to the end of the barrel on your new 22/45?

Now thanks to the stupid laws here I'm going to have to wait for a 6 inch aftermarket barrel to come out then buy both the gun and the barrel. The gun dealer is going to have to put the new barrel on (at some measure of additional cost I'm sure) before I can take ownership of it and then toss the mint condition factory standard barrel in a "spare parts" bin.

Fuck this gay nation.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
I remember the first firearm I bought. I was 19, going to community college and working as a bartender for a temp agency. About that time the Russians were just invading our market with those super cheap Mosin Nagant 91/30's. I Bought mine for a wopping $190 after taxes.

To this day, that is the funnest gun to shoot. I have no idea why, but it just feels right every round that gets chambered.

I also have my STG-2000. You can google it. I picked it up at a gun show and spent my entire paycheck from working at the haunted house on it. It is beautiful. It's a WASR 10 AK-47 modified to replicate the STG-2000 made in East Germany in 1967 when they first received permits from the Soviet union to manufacture AK-47's. The only country I know of that bought substantial amounts of them was Argentina.

Bumping thread.

Anybody here own a black powder guns? I have recently become very interested in buying Kentucky .50 percussion rifle in the shape of a kit, so you must assembly parts yourself. Its about 300$, but I am not sure do they ship to Croatia. Its interesting that these type of weapons do not require permit in Croatia, despite being lethal as their modern counterparts.

This is gun I am talking about.

I don't think usually US companies will ship out of the country. Try frankonia Jagd.

Can you own a black powder cartridge firearm? LIke a martini-henry or a rolling block?

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
Any gun with cartridge requires here permit. Since I am not yet a member of sport shooting club, I have not easy access to permit. If you were to apply for a permit without being member of sport shooting club or a hunter, you would go through examination of your background, they would talk with your neighbors, you would go through various psychological tests and at last you would have to have "reason" why are you getting gun. "I want to have gun to shoot stuff" is not a valid reason.
You can probably see why minority of Croatians have guns and why there is no gun culture here.

But on the other hand you can own black powder revolvers and guns which are filled with powder from the front.

I have a muzzleloading rifle. It's nice, and it shoots better groups than my 30-30 lever action.

Just be sure you clean the hell out of it after shooting, don't let it sit dirty for long or it'll rust like crazy.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/clean_muzzleloader.htm (inline)

http://www.modernmuzzleloader.com/forum/...hp?t=19882 (traditional)

And be careful with black powder, it's very dangerous stuff. Find alternative powder if you can. I usually use Pyrodex.

I don't know anything about muzzleloaders or muzzleloader kits getting shipped overseas, though.

What muzzleloader do you got?

Btw, my original wish was to make matchlock musket, but I wasn't sure about legality of such thing and whether could I obtain good quality barrel without having ridiculous expenses.
It seems that buying finished Kentucky or Kentucky kit is much cheaper alternative.

P.S. I heard about Pyrodex, what is the reason for this alternative powder, is it less volatile?

Thompson Center Renegade, about as old as I am.

I'd definitely go with a regular percussian rifle at first, anyway, yeah.

Black powder will ignite with friction pretty easily and is prone to exploding whereas pyrodex is more like smokeless powder. It isn't as easy to ignite and won't explode if it's not contained in something pretty sturdy. It just burns fast. Way safer than black powder.
