When you go out drinking with friends, do you feel safe, do you drink knowing they have your back, or do you expect them to stick it up your bum (or laugh at you while someone else does it) when you blink?

When I drank with my high school buddies, and somebody went unconscious, we made fun of them, sure, we might have took pictures even, but we didnt stuck fingers up their asses.

Actually I knew a guy who woke up with a mohawk. He passed out, and his buddies shaved his head. It was the stupid kind of stuff that teenage boys do. As far as I know, no charges were filed or anything. This was the late 1980's. People didn't call the police for anything and everything, and we didn't have social media.

Although what these guys did was wrong, they amount of punishment they are receiving is not proportional to the crime. Men should not be villainized simply because a girl gets blacked-out drunk and they put a finger inside of her. A small punishment is in order but they should not have their lives thrown away for such a minor incident.

The girl can't even remember what happened, how can she say she was damaged by the incident?

I had some anon wannabes prank me with a craigslist ad for defending due process in the case of the boys, condeming rape hysteria, and pointing out the culpability of the girl.

Everyone involved was low class, but youth should not be an excuse, nor alcohol. In my extended family we are pretty stringent with slcohol use because of a long history of alcoholics. Use with caution. I can't say much else.

It's hard to say how much evidence there actually was/is. Most of it was posted to social media and then later deleted. And most of them were minors, so a lot of it will never be posted again.

What is known is that Trent Mays transmitted at least one photo of the girl, and that was done without her permission. For that reason alone, I'm not sympathetic to Mays at all. This is why Mays got two years, while Richmond got one.

The girl was definitely intoxicated, and Ma'lik Richmond fingered her. That is also pretty much true.

I honestly can't say what the other boys did and how many of them did what.

I don't really know anything about the girl other than she was a student at Madonna High School in Weirton, West Virginia. That's right across the river from Steubenville.

It also sounds like Richmond could get his status as a "sex offender" overturned if he can show he is "rehabilitated" or whatever. If that does happen, he should write a book as soon as possible.

The football season has begun. Big Red had a rare Thursday night game against Cleveland JFK. They won 49-12. Ma'lik Richmond played on both sides and apparently caught a touchdown pass. One person also noted that the first two passes of the game were to him.

Steubenville was at home, and it sounds like a lot of people came out. This includes people who don't go to games that much. One fan made a positive observation:

"All I can say is that this kid must have spent every free minute he had in jail in the gym."

The problem is they announced publicly the utter slut the girls was by posting pics and videos. When that happened she needed to do something to save her face. But convicting this boys of rape? You know what any convict will tell you about prison. it´s a school of crime.

A criminal punishment has three purposes:

i) Retribution: Eye for an eye, etc. Those type of idiotic dogmas. Of course you could never get equal punishment on most crimes.

ii) Preventing the perpetrator on committing another crime, teaching him a lesson.

iii) Preventing other members of society committing the same crime, because from others examples they will be scared.

I cannot place the sentence of those kids in any of this purposes.

A civil punishment would probably teach this kids a lesson. Don´t fucking post online pics of girls which causes shame on them. Because they will need to fight back, because even if they are complete sluts, they don´t want everybody to know. Specially in small cities.

About jail code? do you know why rapists get a really really bad time in jail? it´s not because raping is morally wrong. Do you really think a gangmember who killed 20+ persons cares.

Most of the guys in jail came from broken homes and were actually abused by a family member. They suffered real rape and abuse.

Ma'lik Richmond got hurt fairly badly last night and will have an MRI on Monday. I heard his teammates carried him off the field. It sounds like he's had a pretty good season.

Big Red is 6-3 and has already clinched a playoff spot. They have their final regular season game at home next week.

Amazing how a single incident destroyed this family. Teenagers do something stupid and now:

Whole thing is a farce. Such draconian punishments on teenage boys should be considered in violation of the cruel and unusual punishment clause.

The boys should have spent a good year or two in JuVe, mainly because of the taping and humiliation more so than the sex act, and with good behavior a chance to clear their reputation. Instead the perpetrators are fucked for life and the father decided to take things into his own hands. Tragic all the way down. I won't be surprised if Ma'lik resorts to other types of crime now. The criminal system probably produces as many criminals as they remove.
