It probably is more culturally acceptable in some countries, to use the talents of the ladies of the night, than others.

But what percentage of men use prostitutes? Will we ever know? Most men are ashamed of this, not that they need to be, but they would seem to be, and don't admit it. Or at least they don't brag about it.

I can count on both my thumbs the men I have met in my life that have admitted that they used prostitutes. Who cares really? Let them keep it private. There is a niche that needs to be filled. Men will behave like dogs. Women will always have an excuse as enough will never be enough for them - 'but I needed to put my 6 kids through med school'. Yeah right! They will always rationalise, they will always sell their bodies. Men will always buy.

This is a very unsavoury subject that I don't want to dwell on too long, lest it kill the inner romantic in my deeper soul!

Umm America has this puritanical thing against hookers. I really think most Europeans, Aussies, Japanese, Koreans have slept with a prostitute by age 25 or 30. It is not as big a deal. I know German guys who for special occasions go out with their guy friends to brothels and bang chicks. No one cares, but in America it has to be kept on the down low. This happens a lot in Vegas. I remember a friend who scored twice way too easily with chicks in Vegas clubs and banged them same night. Years later it turned out that he paid them. Another friend got a stripper back to his hotel room and banged her. He claimed he didn't pay her but years later the truth came out. When I think about my friends I'd say that most of the guys who aren't the beta virgin type have fucked around with whores, usually strippers. They of course do not advertise it.

Honestly, its just sex and its the oldest profession. I am against people using it as their first resort but honestly a guy who has not gone wild and done stuff they regret with wild ladies has not really lived his life. Unfortunately, lots of guys in America fall into this boat.

I don't think its a coincidence that so many threads pop up for locations that are known for pros and semi-pros. A lot of times the only game you need is to show up with a pocket full of dollars and you can pay directly or indirectly.

The Economics Of Prostitution
Wife or whore?

The choice is that simple. At least according to economists Lena Edlund and Evelyn Korn, it is.

The two well-respected economists created a minor stir in academic circles a few years back when they published “A Theory of Prostitution” in the Journal of Political Economy. The paper was remarkable not only for being accepted by a major journal but also because it considered wives and whores as economic “goods” that can be substituted for each other. Men buy, women sell.

Economists have been equating money and marriage ever since Nobel Prize-winning economist Gary Becker published his seminal paper “A Theory of Marriage” in two parts in 1973 and 1974–also, not coincidentally, in the Journal of Political Economy.

Becker used market analysis to tackle the questions of whom, when and why we marry. His conclusions? Mate selection is a market, and marriages occur only if they are profitable for both parties involved.

Becker allowed nonmonetary elements, like romantic love and companionship, to be entered into courtship’s profit and loss statement. And children, in particular, were important. “Sexual gratification, cleaning, feeding and other services can be purchased, but not children: Both the man and the woman are required to produce their own children and perhaps to raise them,” he wrote.

But back to whores: Edlund and Korn admit that spouses and streetwalkers aren’t exactly alike. Wives, in truth, are superior to whores in the economist’s sense of being a good whose consumption increases as income rises–like fine wine. This may explain why prostitution is less common in wealthier countries. But the implication remains that wives and whores are–if not exactly like Coke and Pepsi–something akin to champagne and beer. The same sort of thing.

As with Becker, a key differentiator in Edlund and Korn’s model is reproductive sex. Wives can offer it, whores can not.

To be fair, Edlund and Korn were merely building an admittedly grossly simplified model of human behavior in an attempt to answer a nagging question: Why do hookers make so much money? Prostitution is, seemingly, a low-skill but high-pay profession with few upfront costs, micro-miniskirts and stiletto heels aside.

Yet according to data assembled from a wide variety of times and places, ranging from mid-15th-century France to Malaysia of the late 1990s, prostitutes make more money–in some cases, a lot more money–than do working girls who, well, work for a living. This held true even for places where prostitution is legal and relatively safe. In short, streetwalkers aren’t necessarily being paid more for their increased risk of going to jail or the hospital.

Notwithstanding Jerry Hall’s quip when she was married to Mick Jagger, about being “a maid in the living room and a whore in the bedroom,” one normally cannot be both a wife and a whore. “Combine this with the fact that marriage can be an important source of income for women, and it follows that prostitution must pay better than other jobs to compensate for the opportunity cost of forgone-marriage market earnings,” Edlund and Korn conclude.

Ouch.

Another zinger: “This begs the question of why married men go to prostitutes (rather than buying from their wives, who presumably will be low-cost providers, considering that they can sell nonreproductive sex without compromising their marriage).” Guys, nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” more than “low-cost provider.”

Of course, it’s easy to pour cold water on some of the assumptions made in Edlund and Korn’s mathematical model. But these so-called “stylized facts” are supposed to predict human behavior; they don’t necessarily pretend to mirror it.

In particular, the assumption that there is no “third way” between wife and whore is problematic, if not outright offensive: “The third alternative, working in a regular job but not marrying, can be ruled out, since we assume that the only downside of marriage for a woman is the forgone opportunity for prostitution.”

Be sure to let all your married friends know what they’re missing.

Also, the emphasis on the utility of children is puzzling. In most Western democracies, fertility rates have plummeted as wealth has increased. Empirically, men not only buy fewer whores as they get richer, but they have fewer children.

Still, the economic analysis of marriage explains one age-old phenomenon: gold digging.

“In particular, does our analysis justify the popular belief that more beautiful, charming and talented women tend to marry wealthier and more successful men?” wrote Becker. His answer: “A positive sorting of nonmarket traits with nonhuman wealth always, and with earnings power, usually, maximizes commodity output over all marriages.”

In other words, yes, supermodels do prefer aging billionaires. And Gary Becker proved it mathematically decades before The Donald married Melania.

To answer the thread's question, it depends on the country. I've read that in Thailand, most guys lose their virginity to prostitutes (can any expats in Thailand confirm this?). In America, its likely less than 15% who've ever used any direct p4p (including streetwalkers and escorts).

I know for a fact that in India, if you're not neck-deep in poverty and haven't been Westernized, you ill probably use prostitutes. It would be something like 70% there.

I think prostitution is more common and acceptable in other countries because girls do not put out as easily, like in the Anglo-sphere. I think in more traditional societies it take various dates and making a girl your girlfriend before you have sex. I am guessing that his is big difference in non-feminist countries that since you have a wife, you will stay with her and cheat mainly with escorts who offer you sex as opposed to finding mistresses since this would require you to go to a club and try to pick up girls there and since it is a small upper class, your social circle will immediately know and frown it upon you. I had a very rich friend in Colombia who told me most of his friends lost their virginity to high end escorts. He also told me that his uncle would have a wife but would also bang girls on the side mostly models or small role tv actresses. If using a hooker somehow made me a better player, or increased my Don'tGiveAFuck attitude then I'd do it. As is, most of the guys I know that have used/do use hookers are bad with women.

I have found it a striking similarity between being with prostitutes and the whole hook up culture. I have some experience with prostitutes and it is mostly very impersonal engagement. The girl will charge you a fee and then you simply have sex with her, some have very bitchy attitudes or want you to finish fast. This is generally the cheap one's as you go up the scales the prostitutes take care of treating you well as you can not recommend her to other friends. I have noticed that most guys who are big into prostitutes care about two main things: looks and treatment. If the hooker does not treat you well she loses her value. After banging some prostitutes you will only go back to those who treated you well and not to the hottest as they have bad attitutes. I would say that out of 10 you would only want to see one or two, as most are usually not worth ever talking to again.

Miami is a city with a lot of soft-pros and real pros (strippers and escorts) , as a result, I think most men here have dabbled in that side of the game.

I've gotten the impression recently that more dudes are going this route over gaming at all.

I say no it does not count. They all said it counts. I am here on RVF and they are low notch count betas who think I am a misogynist and/or playboy.

It should not count. If you are paying for the sex, then it should not count towards your notch count.

I don't think anyone is against it per se. I doubt anyone is advocating prohibition of prostitution (most are probably for legalization of it). However, I imagine some guys may have an aversion to personally using it.
