I wanna share a few places I've been visiting as of late.

SkyBar (Mondrian Hotel) - This hotel/bar is located in West Hollywood where a variety of types of women from bloggers, Instagram hoes, models, WEHO girls, Artist to B list celebs come to kick it poolside in the afternoon to evening just about everyday April- August. Best nights are Tuesday ,Thursday, Friday, and Sunday a daytime pool side party starts at 12pm. Women are very trendy at this venue, so be on top of your style game. I find the women to very open and are in the age range of 21-28 generally speaking with Cougars (Saw Paula Abdul in the mix this past Saturday) and older hotel guest sprinkled in. Girls are usually in groups but ratio is 70/30 in our favor plus half the dudes are gay our aren't talkin to females. Seems like a good amount of the ladies come here on the weekends after dinner or before the club to kill time. From MY experience if your a black man as myself and you're well put together people will flock to chat it up wit you especially if your vibe is right since you'll be 1 of 4 most likely.

W Hotel Hollywood - Every Friday night April - August there's an event called Vibe that's held on their rooftop bar that features a dj, bar and pool. Crowd is a bit on the older side 24-40 and are usually the flaunt baller types with the fake every thing Instagram hoes on there arm. Still there are model type, foreign and local women that attend that makes it worth while. Usually 20 to get in if you don't know anyone and aren't on a guest list. I've only been twice but had a great time both nights. Ratio is about 50/50 and trendy attire is a must and its ok to come blazered up.

Perch (Downtown LA) - Rooftop bar/ French resturant. A lot of females raving about it and making sure they get their one Instagram pic of having been there. Haven't been but from what I've seen on IG its the same crowd as the standard.

I stumbled into the Arts District Brewing company a few saturdays ago. It was full of hot girls (primarily in groups) everywhere, it was like a daytime party, music blasting, girls on tables, they had games like ping pong and that little bowling game you had in the old arcades etc etc. I was just kind of walking around the area so really didn't stay too long but might be worth peeping on another Saturday daytime if its nice out.

I'll be making the jump to Los Angeles early next year for work and know nothing about the city. From my research suburbs like Sherman Oaks and Encino seem to be relatively close to the action, seemingly safe, and a decent value? Does anyone else have some tips on suburbs that fit the big three of safe/close and value?

Depends on what you consider "relatively close" That's the Valley (well Encino) so expect much higher temperatures than the rest of LA during the summer. Also where will your job be? If it's not also in the Valley or at the most Studio City, traffic will make you want to slit your wrists.

My work is primarily done from home, but the move is related to bi weekly meetings down in Santa Monica and West Hollywood. A beach side location, and proximity to bars would be ideal but the biggest problem seems to be finding decent real estate for less than $3k per month in these locations.

Well SaMo and WeHo are in opposite directions of each other. Depending on when your meetings would be getting down to SaMo from the Valley is awful and WeHo would be even worse.

Encino is ok in terms of bars and such but Sherman Oaks is the burbs. Not too many singles there although Hollywood is closer. Splurge for a Westside Rentals account and let that do the work for you in terms of what's out there in your budget.

North Hollywood isn't bad either (close to red-line so girls can come take train to you).

I thought I would chime in on this one, I currently live in Sherman Oaks and have lived here for a few years. I have to drive to Venice and Santa Monica 3 to 5 days a week. Most of the time the poster above me is right, I want to slit my wrist. However it's not really that bad and depends on if the extra money in rent is worth the drive. I generally spend an hour in traffic each way. The west side is much funner, and the talent is no comparison to the skallywags in the valley but something about the valleys peace and quiet compared to the other side of the hill is a little bit relaxing to me.

Nice breakdown, I will have to start hitting the Mondrian again!

Sounds good. I mean a one hour commute for me is easy if not the norm. With only one trip every few weeks it's not a big concern.

Considering the population of L.A is almost 19 million, you would have to think, even in a relatively suburban area like Encino, there is still a decent amount of action in play…

No man. There is not a decent amount of play in Encino. I've been here a long time. Talent is on the other side of the hill. So, if that's very important to you you are moving to the wrong area.

No. Not really important. I'm from Sydney. Our city shuts at 1am. Good to know where the talent is though... Even lizards gotta drink

I think you would be making a huge mistake moving to Encino. But then again I've only been here 15 years and worked for years in Encino so what do I know?

Agreed man. Love skybar at the mondrian. Over the summer theres literally shit going on during the day friday, sat, and sunday. Typically a DJ but arrive early they can be kind of bougie with the line and if you're rolling with just dudes, good luck if you don't know anyone. This is probably my favorite "pool" party to go to over the summer in hollywood. Side note, drinks are probably 10$ beers and 13$ cocktails here, which should be expected given its Hollywood.

The W hotel i've heard is pretty sweet, they also have some jazz night on sundays if thats what you're into that gets pretty busy. I believe there is a dress code for these events (probably just a button up shirt or a collared shirt of some sort).

Pool parties at the Roosevelt are also awesome, again, Im pretty sure stuff goes on here during the day (and sometimes night) friday through sunday.

Perch is cool, again a bougie spot with dime pieces walking around. I would say most of the crowd is late 20s-40s. Line gets super long on friday and saturday nights if you are there after 10pm, expect to wait.

Downtown, go to the standard or ace hotel they have lots of stuff going on during the summer. Both awesome spots. awesome pool parties. Standard can book some pretty great DJ's also.

Pretty sure we already have discussed the bungalow in this thread if you're in the santa monica area, but again, cool spot to check out.

I'm thinking of moving out of the hollywood area but can't figure out where I want to go. Such a centrally located area for me, but being by the beach is cool, just the nightlife is shit compared to this area. Damn you LA and your long distances.

Went to Ace rooftop bar for the first time lastnight running solo and it was quite legit. They had 90s - today hip hop and RnB playing which the ladies loved.

^^When "Ain't No Fun" by Snoop Dogg comes on, bitches start dancing 15-20% harder... It's actually quantifiable.

I might be coming to LA to live for a couple of years. I would be working in Santa Monica. What do you guys think of Culver City for an area to get an apartment?

I live in Culver City and its cool. The downtown area is nice with good restaurants and you are pretty close to SM/Venice which is nice. Its by no means ground zero but its close enough to everything. Also, it has some hood parts where you don't want to get an apartment. Stay away from Braddock and Sawtelle area. That's the projects and shit still pops off there.

Santa Monica is also a bitch to get in and out of. It can take up 20 mins to get across a few blocks during rush hour.

There's a metro line opening in a couple of months from Culver City to Santa Monica, so if you do live in Culver City or Palms, it might be possible to commute to work without a car.

Culver City is cool, but I'd rather live in West LA (west of the 405) for about the same money. You'll be more "geographically desirable" as well (which is a big factor). The way I see it, you'll be in Santa Monica, you'll be doing happy hours around there after work, the promenade is a great date spot and at the end of the night, West LA is a helluva lot more accessible and your social options will be greater.


Living along any of the Expo line stops would be good too (anything west of the Culver City station anything east is "urban").

Thanks for all the responses. I checked out the Expo line and I think that I will take the advice to live close to where I work. I looked in Palms, close to the new Expo line, and I will be looking in Santa Monica.

Got a friend coming in town (I live in OC) and thinking about hitting up Bungalow this weekend with him, either saturday (today) or the 3rd for the 3rd of July party. Anybody have experience with this place on the 3rd? The line is supposed to be ridiculous on normal nights, so I'm guessing the whole place is packed like a chinese subway on that day.

Any suggestions for other places to take him? I don't come into LA too much myself, so I'm a little out of the loop on hot spots.

I'll be stopping into L.A. August 2nd. Down to hang or meet with whomever.

I lived in OC for a year and SD for a year as well. Needless to say I've taken a bunch of weekend trips. Never knew if I could stand LA traffic but after a season on the east coast, I'm itchin to go back. Got some buddies looking for a spot in the valley, specifically, Burbank/north Hollywood area.

I'm in my mid 20s. I like the night scene in Santa Monica a lot. Specifically places like the Victorian with people my age and with some sort of $$. With that said, what would you suggest me about Burbank?

Second, I work some hours from home as a web developer for a startup. Have a web design on the business on the side that I'm growing. Planning on spending my extra time getting a California real estate license. I'd like to do that work for 20ish hours a week, more if I like it. Figure at worst gaining that knowledge/experience can't hurt. Anyone know anything about being a real estate agent in SoCal? Any advice?

Appreciate it
