Hell, you could even do the language exchange things and find girls who are in LA from overseas. Too easy.

I've been in LA for a few yrs now. Unlike most people, I love living here and the gaming is pretty good. What I find most useful in closing girls (on a second date) is to have a guest parking spot at your place. What I will do is choose a restaurant/bar/whatever that is on the other side of the town from her place so that my place is "on the way" Then I'll say that since I'm on the way to the venue, why don't you come park at my place and we'll carpool/uber together. Then, after the date, we have to get back to my place for her car and pulling to my place becomes almost natural. This usually works on the second date because offering girls to park at your place on the first date comes off creepy (unless the girl is really into you). I think this works particularly well in LA because parking sucks a lot, girls are always driving, and they're too cheap to park in paid lots. Saves them a lot of headache and helps them relax.

After a bit of back and forth I've decided to head to LA for a couple of weeks this summer, with Vegas, as last time I was there was nearly 4 years ago now, last time I stayed with my mates near USC and the game was easy as a Brit with the right accent however this time, I'm not 100% on best place to stay, is it Santa Monica, Venice, Hollywood (tourist hellhole but never know) or somewhere near UCLA/USC?

I'm also not 100% certain if the accent will be a bonus this time around as I most likely won't be hitting on college girls but that depends where I end up though I guess and I'm in my mid-twenties so never know!

If you liked downtown area then it’s a good spot to stay.

Nightlife there has improved in the last few years.

Great town, I miss it. Arguably the best vibe in the world.

Last time wasn't so much of a choice but I did enjoy it, I presume Standard is the place to be (not Wednesdays!) as well as Perch, Edison, Varnish etc?

It's good to hear that the nightlife has improved, I only hit the clubs in Vegas and a few bars in LA but I'll be there for 3 weeks at least so need many more options

Yeah hit the blocks between 7th and Grand -> 5th and Spring if you're going downtown.

All the spots you mentioned above were still decent when I went last.

3 weeks though you should also check out Hollywood and Santa Monica scenes at least a bit.

I run a free Meetup boxing fundamentals class on Saturdays at Pan Pacific Park and teach classes at a small personal training gym. Also just started doing personal training (mostly just mittwork/footwork drills)

Boxing is pretty easy to pick up and I think I'm a pretty good teacher. I was doing mitts with a friend at Griffith Park and people would stay watching. Bunch of opportunities to approach some cute hikers/tourists but I never would.

I'm going to Los Angeles next weekend and wanted some advice about the nightlife there. I have read the thread and identified some likely spots.

However, the last time I went to LA it was a bit of a disaster to be honest. The downtown bars were really hipsterish (apart from Edison and Perch which were quite good) and the santa monica bars (bungalow) were way too young... we are in our mid thirties and frankly felt like dinosaurs. The upscale places in Hollywood (warwick) unsurprisingly didn't let us in (skybar at Mondrian was OK). I got the impression that unless you are famous, you are basically considered a non-entity once you exceed thirty years old. We also dress kinda smart by US standards (shirt, blazer, shoes) and hope to find some lounge bar type places where we won't look too out of place (no pumping 1oak type clubs or teenage hangouts). I haven't booked a place to stay yet so could do with a steer as to the nightlife to ensure decent logistics.

Here are some spots that look OK most of which are from previous datasheets, can anyone tell me which of these might fit the bill for a couple of older dudes:

You're in your mid-thirties, while I didn't notice an older crowd in any of the above when I was there last as I wasn't really looking but you shouldn't have an issue with any of these providing your in shape and dress for the occasion.

Also add The Standard to your list but only go on a Friday or Saturday, any other day is a waste but loads of FSU girls there so it's good.

I posted the most recent Los Angeles data sheet here, looks like you found several venues from there. It is only 2 months old so the information is still pretty accurate. Given the criteria that you describe in your post, here's some recs (some are on your list, some aren't)

Downtown:
Edison - This would be your best bet, though you said you went last time so understandable that you should try other options first. Still, all in all this is a solid bar that tends to have cougars

Seven Grand - Fun spot, I'd say early 30s is close to average age, people tend to dress nicer there. Great whiskey selection. Its a good spot to drop past forsure.

Broken Shaker - Nice rooftop, they get a lot of the crowd that has been going to Perch and Standard in the past.

Avoid: Library Bar (pretty packed and small, younger crowd), Elevate (from what I hear that place is wack). I've never been to Suede so can't comment.

Hollywood:
No Vacancy - I would say is one of your best choices, its a really cool lounge/bar and has a mixed crowd age-wise. Perhaps leans younger but not too young. A little hipster.

La Descarga - It's a bit out of the way, but its a pretty cool Cuban-themed lounge that has a solid crowd and a good scene. Would recommend.

Highlight Room - Could be fun on a weekday afternoon/evening, but after 10 it will become a shitshow. Pretty good place to begin.

Avoid: Avalon (unless its after 2 and you still want to keep goin), Warwick/Tao/Avenue (will be really hard to get in unless you're throwing $$$)

Weho:
Of the places you mention, I would recommend EP/LP, Skybar, and Laurel Hardware. All of those are good.

I would also recommend Ysabel. It may be a little tricky at the door but you should be able to get in. Nice lounge with good drinks, lots of foreign girls, cougars as well.

Hyde I would recommend only if you're spending a lot of $ (though you will see stunners), Delilah/Doheny Room are pretty tricky to get in (unless going for dinner), and Nightingale is pretty similar to 1OAK so you wouldn't like it. Abbey is cool for the experience, but it is a high-energy, raging gay bar so I also don't think that would be a fit.

Overall... I would recommend staying in Weho/Hwood over Downtown, it's a bigger area with more variety, and you can have reasonable logistics for both of them (versus if you're in Downtown, it is annoying to get to Weho/Hwood).

Come on bro this isn't true. Most men under 30 are too broke to enjoy LA or NYC. LA didn't start getting fun or easy for me until I was in my early 30s. Hell you can say that about life in general, that it didn't get going until I turned 32.

Damn RDF plugging my go-to spots again. I repped you because you're willing to mention these places on the forum, even though most members won't take advantage of it.

I've been hitting Ysabels since it was Lola's. Older guys will remember Lola's. It's a shame that they closed the place, because it was a great place to meet your classic carousel riding mid 20s girl. You can get around the door situation at Ysabel by showing up at dinner, or at least before 9/9:30. I normally hit late dinner 7:30/8 and it's generally cougars and girls in their mid to late 20s. You can take the same approach at Hyde and Catch and show up early and just hang out until the nightlife crowd takes over. You can chill by the bar or sit at a table and order apps to save dropping money on dinner.

I'll also add to your DTLA info: Suede is trash. It's small and out of the way (at the St. Bonaventure hotel. Nothing else is around it), drinks are overpriced and the crowd is generally from surrounding LA County cities. You can luck out and find hot girls on a bachelorette party who are staying at the hotel, but that's a hail mary, especially because there are better places to go.

Elevate can be ok. It's may be worth checking out only if you're in that area for some reason. An alternative would be Spire 73 at the Intercontinental Hotel on Grand and Fig. It closes early, but it has cool views and has a little more upscale crowd because it's pricey.

But if you're over 30 then take RDF's advice and hang out in Weho/Bev Hills.
