I regularly have cookies before bed. I go to bed around 10pm. I like going to bed on a full stomach, so I save about 1,000 calories for my dinner and bedtime snack.

People put so many unnecessary rules on health and fitness, it's enough to drive a person crazy. Just google "how to lose weight" and quickly get lost in the many conflicting websites offering various diets explaining how theirs is the right way to lose weight. It's turned into a religion, and people are mighty protective of their chosen religion (diet).

It's one of the driving reasons why I decided to change career paths and become a nutritionist. There's just so much misinformation out there, and it takes so much time to wade through everything to get down to the real science of human physiology.

You have seen it with your own eyes!

You only have to look at the bodies of those thin Eastern European girls to know that my advice is based off of years of first hand experience and trial and error.

Again, what has allowed me to reduce nearly all of my belly fat this summer was to cut out all processed foods, sugars, flour, etc., and for dinner, I eat only lean protein and vegetables, if I ate a lot of protein throughout the day, I may only have vegetables for dinner. (I am never hungry because I eat a lot of fish, chicken, or beef throughout the day)

This is why I have a 6 pack.

This is real world experience.

I have been experimenting with my own body since I was 12 years old. I am now 38.

As men, we generally like to maintain a bit more muscle, because of this, we must eat more than women.

Our dietary challenges are more complex than the dietary challenges of women.

Adding and maintaining muscle is something that women don't have to worry about.

Our need for more calories creates a need for greater dietary control.

Here is what I ate yesterday:

8am -- Shake of 2 frozen bananas, a large scoop of peanut butter, 5 dates, coconut milk, protein powder.

4pm -- Grilled chicken with tomatoes

Very little carbs! Only quality carbs! Just lean meat and fruits & vegetables after lunch!

And, I eat it in the morning before I work out which ensures that I will burn it off.

We are probably NOT going to get agreement on the extent to which carbs are good for you or bad for you or the extent to which some kinds of carbs can be differentiated from other carbs.. I mean we probably are NOT going to even get agreement about how to frame these carb related issues, so it seems.

There does seem to be some consensus that cutting back processed foods is a good thing; however, guys here seem to attribute such good thing in cutting processed foods to varying reasons, though.

Personally, even though I understand what you are saying, TailGunner, regarding the complex versus simple dichotomy of carbs, I get the sense that making that distinction and then suggesting that we can eat as much complex carbs as we like is a bit misleading. Some guys tolerate carbs better than others, and the combining of foods could cause a greater impact upon a guy's total carb load than he had realized. And, eating complex carbs is NOT going to solve this problem very well because guys are going to still have varying glucose level reactions to the carbs depending upon their tolerance and even insulin resistance levels that likely have evolved over the years of their lives.

I do get the sense that there is a hierarchy of carbs, though, and eating foods in their whole and natural state or close to that with some cooking can be a good thing.

I am NOT really into the thinking that various whole food carbs, whether oatmeal or various vegetables or fruits are nutritious in the same way that proteins and fats are - however, there seem to be some micronutrients and enzymes and prebiotics (in the form of resistance starch) contained in some of these whole food carbohydrates that overall facilitate health and allow the body to absorb nutrients better by facilitating digestion and to form and maintain good gut flora.

Overly sugary foods tend to interfere with good bodily nutrition absorption processes and even some of the bad oils contained in many processed foods also interfere with good bodily nutrition absorption processes.

As the butter can make your pants fall off video that I posted above suggested, if your body is having difficulties absorbing the nutrients from the food, then it will store those nutrients as fat and make it difficult to lose belly fat and even cause increasing accumulation of belly fat.

This is what the best athlete in the world has been eating to slim down.

He has access to the best nutritionists, dieticians, personal trainers, etc., in the world.

Here are some examples of his meals:

I agree. The only thing that I would add is that the beef and lamb should be grass fed, the poultry free range, and the fish caught in the wild. The old adage that "you are what you eat" is quite true, but I would also add an addendum: "You are whatever your meal eats."

If steers, poultry, and fish eat grain, rather than their natural foods, then you are also eating what they ate because it is now the essence of their flesh (not all grains are good). If they ingest hormones and other chemicals, then so do you. That is also why you should eat smaller fish rather than predator fish, because the fish at top of the food chain are filled with mercury from eating loads of smaller fish, which condenses the amount of mercury. Same principle.

I pretty much gave up Mexican food because I have no knowledge of the quality of the meat. I cannot eat wheat, so if the steers ate grain then obviously I should not eat the beef. But I still have roast pork, chicharones, and beans as an occasional treat. If you can find just one Mexican joint that properly makes roast pork (the vast majority do not), it is a real treat. The chicharones are just icing on the cake!

Project abs is on again.

Ok, I had too much weight recently now I eat only once a day and I lost already some serious weight. The good thing is this time I could increase my muscle size at the same time with some serious training and lots of protein, creatin, taurin. I think I am very close to see my abs. So project abs is on again.

I bought some guarana burn 60 from glc it boosts my energy quite good. I am going to order Modafinil maybe it will help me to solve minor stress related problems so I have more energy left for may abs.

I started a bulk last January and gained muscle but also a gut and a fat face. Prior to this I was one of those skinny guys with some muscle and pretty good muscle definition but no six back.

A couple months ago I cleaned up the diet and started doing cardio 4-5 days a week for an hour as well as working out 4-5 days a week. The fats coming off and I'm getting leaner, but still no six pack, even though I can feel a mean one under that stomach skin. I don't eat many carbs (under 100 a day) but the ones I consume mostly come from wheat bread, which I eat as toast with my breakfast in the morning and as a sandwich in the afternoon.

I can cut out the toast in the morning, but the sandwich in the afternoon is one of the main ways I get a large portion of my protein (turkey or chicken cold cuts). Could I substitute the 2 slices of bread for a wrap and reduce the carbs? What about Ezekiel bread? Any non wheat choices? Does gluten free make a difference?

Also, if I cut out the 4 slices of bread I have a day, I'm most likely going to enter ketosis? Besides a serving of fruit at some point during the day, it represents almost all my carbs.

I've heard good and bad about ketosis and not sure I want to go that route, mainly I'm concerned with feeling lethargic and I'm also sort of addicted to bread, if I could I'd eat like 8 slices a day.

My typical daily intake:

Breakfast- 4 whole eggs, olive oil and franks red hot, with green and red pepper, 2 slices whole grain bread.

Lunch - sandwich consisting of 6-8 oz of turkey or chicken breast, one slice of cheese, and greens, a little mayonnaise.

Dinner - 6-8 oz of chicken breast cooked in olive oil, most of the time with penko bread crumbs and a stir try sauce or organic tomato sauce, and a salad (spring mix or baby spinach with ranch or raspberry vinaigrette and a splash of olive oil)

Snacks - at some point I'll eat a serving or two of fruit as a snack, with organic honey.

I also take krill oil, drink plenty of water, and have 2 coffees a day with one sugar and coconut milk or cream as a last resort.

I'm sensitive to dairy (gives me cystic acne and fuks up my complexion) which is why I consume very little.

I let myself have a couple glasses of wine or a couple beers on Friday.

What kind of alterations can I make or is this looking pretty good for making lean gains and eventually getting a six pack/low bf%? I'm 5'7 135 lbs currently, I know it sounds skinny, but I have a narrower frame. I'd like to have a cut up, muscular athletic look, not the body builder look.

My opinion: remove bread from your diet completely, including the bread crumbs (although Ezekiel bread might be alright because it is made from sprouted grains rather than flour) and replace it with raw vegetables, especially leafy greens.

If you are that sensitive to dairy, remove it from your diet completely for three months. Then introduce it back into your diet slowly. If you still observe any symptoms, then either permanently remove it from your diet or get tested for gluten intolerance (most people who are gluten intolerant are also very sensitive to dairy, but they can often -- but not always -- reintroduce it into their diet after removing all gluten).

I would suggest that you make bread a treat on Friday only, just like beer or wine, provided that you stuck with your diet the rest of the week -- and only eat Ezekial bread.
