Oh man, this is relevant. I got a woman from another country talking about flying out to see me. It seems she'll have the flight covered, but what about lodging?

I'm asking because I was talking with the woman recently and she asked me, "where am I going to stay?" I felt that maybe she was asking where am I going to pay for her to stay but maybe I'm looking to deep into this....

Ideally I would prefer to just cover stuff like meals and outings.

I paid for a flight for a girl to come visit me over here in New York for about 2 weeks. We dated for a month in Eastern Europe. She never asked me to come visit and it was my idea entirely. She wouldn't have been able to afford to come visit. She stayed at my place and paid for everything else.

I considered that. I live in a shared space right now and it definitely wouldn't fly with the people here. The only way I can think to apply your suggestion is to pay for a room in a hotel for myself, suggest a place for her to stay, and then try to bounce her to the hotel during the stay at the other place I suggest to her.

I had a similar situation that worked out for me quite well. She was coming through a month later anyway , and I had the cash to grab the flight a month early. Had a great long weekend, and then she met me a month later on her dime...

Granted leading up to that first meeting though I was NOT sure if she was going to flake or not...I was pretty nervous. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone but those guys with 1) nothing to lose. 2) a backup plan. 3) Rock solid Lover frame.

You were risking not just money, but also humiliation if she flaked or, even worse, flew into town on your dime then stayed with some other guy she met on tinder. You have to take risks in life, but you want limited risks with odds in your favor, heavily on your favor for big risks, maybe just slightly in your favor for small risks. Fact that you were nervous indicates odds were not heavily enough in your favor to justify the risk.

Everyone has a different risk tolerance of course. Mine is such that I would never pay in advance. At most, I'd reimburse the money when we met at the airport. That's for a girl I'd already had sex with and was pretty certain was down for more sex. Yes, she could take the reimbursement and then walk off and get a taxi to meet some other guy, but that much less likely than ordinary flaking.
