I've heard others say that the Nigerians in Roppongi haven't been as predatory lately so you're not the only one. I suspect that someone they listen to has told them that if they don't cool it on the hustling a little, the authorities are going to run them out of town. Still, I don't recommend going to 7th Heaven or any of the other Nigerian-owned bars/clubs in Roppongi, because they might still be roofing people when they think they can get away with it.

Anyway, Pancho, everything you need to know for either a short or long stay in Japan are in the previous 62 pages of this thread. I don't think there's a better source than this thread for gaming in Japan on the entire Internet, including, perhaps in Japanese. So, I recommend taking one or two hours and skimming through it. Once finished, the questions you'll have for us will likely be much more informed and specific, and we can take it from there.

Yeah I have been there hundreds of times and nothing sketchy ever happened to me. But I do know guys who have woke up in random places with $1000's in credit card transactions ran through at some shady strip club. So there is truth to the seedy underbelly of the place.

Last time I was there I don't think I was even approached by a single Nigerian. I am sure they are still there, but thinking back to last year I can't even remember.

RE: Bang Japan: Game in The Great Nippon Empire
Look, I can't in good conscience turn a blind eye and say Roppongi is safe on a forum I care about. All I'm saying is things can still go very wrong there. I've been there as recently as last year and I saw the predatory nature and underbelly first hand.

Japan is an easy country to let your guard down because it's repped as a very safe first world country, but in Tokyo, they basically try to keep all the foreigner bullshit in Roppongi and the cops turn a blind eye to foreigner on foreigner crime in that section.

I felt much safer walking the streets of Manila and dark dirt roads of the Philippines province than I did in Roppongi. The problem is some shady Nigerians legit stay in the same buildings as the airbnbs that get rented out in the center of the neighborhood. They are dodgy with no security so if someone comes after you, you're pretty much on your own.

Maybe it's just because I'm a young white guy, but I felt a big stigma was that I was from America. If you're dead set on Roppongi, get a hotel with a staff, don't go with any Nigerians, use cash at all times (seriously don't even use credit cards in perceived normal bars, restaurants or ATMs in the neighborhood), and just keep a close eye on your drinks.

I never fear monger on the forum and apologize if it's coming off like that, I just felt like as a member of this forum I should make it aware that bad shit still happens around here.

As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.

Had no issues staying in Roppongi when I was there late last year. Was hardly sketchy outside the ladyboy strippers walking around at 7am as we were getting out of the clubs. I got along with the two Nija dudes that I met out.

Shibuya was more lit but would close the night in Roppongi which made it easy to bounce chicks back for after parties.

RE: Bang Japan: Game in The Great Nippon Empire
Just ignore the Nigerians. Ignore them on the roads, don’t go to their bars and you will be fine. You don’t even need to reply them when they talk to you. Just walk through as they’re invisible and they’ll leave you alone.

The modus operandi is simple, if you emgage them and follow them to wherever they lead you to, if you get in trouble, the polic would just assume you fell victim because you’re a “Baka gaijin” they wouldn’t help you. This is different from say, if they robbed you on the streets, stealing your bags or cash and running off, those would be guraranteed a reaction by the cops. That’s the situation in Roppongi, kinda like an open secret.

The safest bet is to just stay away from the Nigerians, ignore them when they approach you. Nothing will happen if you don’t allow it to.

Roppongi is safe. I have never had any problems. Nigerians try to lure you to their bars. Just say, "No, thanks" and you will be fine.

EDIT: Zerdame beat me by four minutes on Nigerians.

Pancho, there are spanish-speaking events in meetup.com. The quality was not great but you might find a few women up to your standard. Send a PM with your age range, and I might give you some suggestions where to go for gaming.

Nothing ruins your relationship with a white girl like spending a couple weeks in Tokyo. Good god, these girls in Roppongi.

You guys saying it's not that great, I would love to be pulling from your talent pool.

I picked through this thread a few times even before I had any intention of visiting Tokyo. The only advice I'd give my 6-month younger self would be to just to sit down and read the whole damn thread start-to-finish. It's worth it. IMHO, one of the best threads on RVF and I learned a lot of tips and tricks that are going to save me frustration and confusion while banging Nippon.

I had an interesting experience today (Saturday). The intercom went off and a middle-aged woman was at the gate. I don't read any Japanese so I pushed "the big button" which turned out to be some sort of panic alarm ...? Anyway, pushed a bunch of buttons to turn the beeping off and walked downstairs. It was two Japanese women spreading the good word of .... the Jehovah's Witnesses. In Japan? Damn!

I'm just glad whatever button I pushed didn't call the police or whatever.

A quick question regarding day game: If you have non-brown/black eyes would you ever wear sunglasses? I got an awesome pair of sunglasses but something tells me to leave them at home if women are regularly going to bring up the color of my eyes in casual day game conversation...

You're absolutely right, cracking the Japanese code is not always easy, and anyone traveling to Japan should invest some time to read this thread. It will pay off once you get there.

I spent 2 months in Japan and I had the time of my life, thanks to all the forum members who shared their knowledge.

As for your question, if your sunglasses make you feel more confident, wear them, then take them off once you engage in a conversation with a girl so she can see your blue/green eyes (which is always a plus in Japan).

Thanks, mate. I think sunglasses do make me feel more confident. At the same time, these girls are easily frightened so running around looking like a Top Gun pilot might be less than optimal game.

------

Just a few observations from walking around Roppongi during the day:

Both times I came down here in the mid-morning and saw what I can only imagine as the Nigerian tout kingpins. Black-black (Africa) dudes driving around in fancy German cars. They often stop in the middle of the road and talk to the local touts on the sidewalk, completely blocking traffic. If they really want something, they just park in that lane, get out, hurdle over the barrier and enter a shop. The Japanese (including cops) are basically just pretending that this isn't happening. Hilarious.

-----

There are lots of Chinese shops serving noodles and sesame chicken or whatever. These are probably your best bet for a cheap lunch as a lot of the burger shops were closed and the high-end European-looking cafes seemed to be tea shops without much in the way of food.

I entered a few "Japanese" shops with highly Westernized Japanese which was a huge disappointment. Growing up in the West, I didn't think Asian women were attractive until I actually visited Asia. A shop with Japanese women with smeared makeup, bad attitudes and Valley-girl Californian English reminded me why I used to think that way. I politely but quickly left those places. Are these dual citizens who left multicultural California to be with their people but forgot to check their Western decay at the door? It's probably beta to even care but I sure hope their cancer doesn't spread.

-----

My sample size isn't very high but I got the feeling that Roppongi is not a great daygame location. I found one or two great coffee shop locations but street approaches actually ended up fairly negatively. I get the feeling that the normal Japanese passing through during the day just use English to work with or for foreign companies but don't want to interact with random Gaijin. A random example would be if you lived in Detroit and worked for General Motors but had to walk through the ghetto to get to the office. Anyone who is not in the office building or in your social circle is a random menace.

I could be totally off on that observation. My gut feeling is that this does a complete 180 at night when the Japanese that want to meet the random foreigners get off work and come to Roppongi while professional Japanese take their paycheck and escape back to the suburbs to get away from the foreigners.

-----

Coffee shop game in Roppongi has worked pretty well. It's pretty classic RooshV Bang stuff. Ask for help/opinion/directions/recommendations. I have a couple of online side hustles that actually cater to a feminine audience so I can either use the girl to split test photographs or show her what I do (not a sensei lol) with a natural transition instead of some kind of elaborate ruse which I've never been good at pulling off anyway.

The difference is that even the stay-at-home moms are too polite/intrigued to tell you to buzz off. So basically you almost never get rejected like in the West but at the same time you need to manage your time with the girls who are intrigued but don't speak English. Google Translate with Pidgin English sentences worked well but without Japanese you're stuck sending Emojis back and forth on LINE - lol

----

Why are you here?

I tell them that I'm here for 10 days (time constraint) waiting on a work visa for another Asian country. This is a neutral, believable story that neither adds nor subtracts from you in their eyes (as far as I can tell).

Why are you really here?

I'm definitely checking out Japan for something more long-term. So far so good. It takes cash but on the other hand making a commitment to spend more time here means dedicating myself to taking my business endeavors to the next level as well.

There are already 63 pages stating this but FFS learn the language. My plan is to ride this trip out as the baka gaijin and, now that I legitimately interested in Japan, start learning with the Genki books TJ recommended in another thread.

I like staying in Roppongi.

Good apartments, convenient if you cook by yourself as you have two supermarkets nearby, which is a rarity in Tokyo unfortunately as most people eat in restaurants or if they're poor they turn to crappy convenience store meals.

Why you want to cook you ask? Portion sizings in restaurants aside from Ramen are tiny and unless you want to turn into a skinny japanese dude you either have to cook by yourself or spend 5000+ yen a day in restaurants easily.

If touts chatting you up bother you then you have been living a very sheltered life. I have seen them chasing guys who look like doofus marks but even then nothing is going to happen if you don't fall for their approaches.

Roppongi in the day has alot of neutral japanese people that may not be particularly into foreigners. When people talk about Roppongi as a game destination, its mostly its night life and clubs. That being said, I actually like Roppongi in the day, a nice upscale neighbourhood that is relatively quiet in the day that you can grab some decent western cuisine in a quiet cafe.

Eating out does get expensive fast, learning to cook will save you a ton of money. Roppongi also has a MeidiYa supermarket that specializes in western imports. Fun fact: MeidiYa sells western imports while outside of Japan, they do the direct opposite: selling Japanese products as a Japanese supermarket.

Agreed that this is one of the most comprehensive threads about Japan. It helped me tons when I was a newbie both in game and in Japan back in 2015 and since I'll be back in Japan long term end of this year, its definitely a space that I'll be watching.

I'm actually talking about Super Motomachi and Hanamasa in Akasaka where the restaurant chefs buy. Both have some really cheap high quality stuff and you don't need a biz license to buy at Hanamasa.

I don't think you read my post, mate. It was just a commentary on how Japanese deal with Roppongi being a foreigner area. None of the Nigerians even talked to me. Having white relatives in Africa makes living a "very sheltered life" when it comes to blacks pretty close to impossible Confused

This is a long time coming because I missed the cutoff date to verify my account by a day or two last month -_- I want to introduce myself to the community.

It doesn't take much to figure out I live in Hokkaido (27 M), but I unfortunately live in the country of countrysides. I do hit up Sapporo for weekend trips to get someplace a bit bigger. Likewise I'm currently looking at a career change and moving down to the Kansai area next year.

I recently decided to get into game for obvious reasons, but also to learn to handle my anxiety, become more social and self-confidant. I just came back from a 6 day trip in Tokyo that gave me a lot of exposure and experience and also highlighted areas that I need work on (bar/club game and not giving up too early when opening a girl).

I've read this thread from front to back and picked up some good information, but I know that experience will do wonders for me.

If there are any members in Sapporo, I'd be down for meeting, getting a beer, and talking. Likewise, if anyone has advice for bar and club game (never did this before coming to Japan 2 years ago, so feel free to get as specific as you want), I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks guys and I hope to continue learning and growing with everyone

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately living in the countryside can really mess with your head after awhile when you're a young guy trying to get some poon. I would advise you to get out of the countryside as soon as you can but in the meantime, use the opportunity to learn Japanese. Just make sure its 標準語(standardized Japanese) and not some remote 方言(dialect).

What got you to Hokkaido and specifically the countryside in the first place? English teaching?

Sapporo, Susukino. Good memories during my short visit there. I went to few nightclubs but a bar, close to Susukino, which had a small dance floor, was the best. I wish I could remember the bar's name (though I can find it if I go back to Sapporo).

I liked your sincere post, man. I am sure you will overcome your sticking points since you know what they are. If we happen to be in the same town, I will be happy to be to have a beer, and game with you.

I've learned some Hokkaido-ben and Kansai-ben and found that people usually enjoy it if I can use some of their dialect; that being said, I mainly stick with the standard.

A professor in college inspired me to look into Hokkaido due to the abundance of nature and slower pace of life. I got a job teaching English (was put into the small town) and enjoy the friends I've made and students I teach, which is why I decided to stay for another year. I'm looking into going back into banking next year in Tokyo or Osaka.

Harajuku is not easy, daygame wise. If you stand near the station long enough you will see nanpa guys approaching girls. They blend in because they will walk and talk with a girl. What gives them away is their horrible body language (leaning in, head nodding, apologizing, and such). After they bomb they go back to their standing spot and wait for the next.

Daygaming in Roppongi would have been better and more fun in your circumstance.

Nice post btw.

Asking for directions is lame, even in a socially uncalibrated (PUA-wise) like Asia. Do indirect game. If you come up blank, then talk about sites or directions. Also, though this sounds ancient, it was really 11 years ago, smart phones weren't common; people used maps. With GPS, not really an opener anymore.

^ That's your logical male mind speaking. Directional openers do still work. You don't need an objective "reason" to approach a girl.

PM me for accommodation options in Bangkok.

I'm a tad confused on your terminology. Are you saying that asking for directions is not indirect game?

GPS doesn't really destroy asking for directions opener - because you can still be in a general area and genuinely be confused on where you're going (ie, apartment or a hole in the wall store).

Ask for a specific restaurant. She doesn't need to know the restaurant. Most japanese girls would use her phone, google the restaurant website for the address and then try to help you find it. They are that helpful.

This entire process could take up to 5mins. After that, get her to walk you there. All of these are huge tests to test her interest levels, if she is willing to walk you there, she is at least slightly interested.

You asking this question makes me wonder if you actually do daygame in Japan. Since directional openers are lame to you, do share with us what openers you use. It would be a learning opportunity for the forum.
