The writer actually didn't portray the forum in as negative light as a lazy MSM journo might be expected to. Rather than trying to peg us as some kind of evil hive, they highlighted that Mr Cazes had drawn criticism from within the forum.

This is a bit of a tangent, but even though the writer doesn't explicitly shit all over the forum, his bias and lack of objectivity still come through loud and clear. For example:

Jeez - there is so much to the story and kudos to some members who called him out in his initial thread and alluded to the fact that he must have gotten it via illegal activity.

Some have even met him in person just some 2-3 years ago when he did not have any cash and dated a lackluster ageing single mother Thai woman.

As for Bitcoin trading being able to have netted him millions - I know such guys, but the problem with that is that most of them already had millions and had 200.000$+ lying around and chose to pump it into Bitcoins early on. This was not the case.

As for his business:

I would not call him the greatest imbecile ever, since he obviously had some intelligence, but he was simply almost criminally careless. He probably believed more in the fake-news narrative than anything else - that encryption alone will save him.

Our data-world is in my opinion composed of 3 levels and depending who you want to hide from - that is how paranoid and careful you have to be:

Level 1:

Complete top-surveillance, where every key-stroke, picture, GPS-point, audio-recording, comma is saved and allotted on your own personalized account. Most of it is used for predictive planning of the globalists, but the upper echelons may access it occasionally if you are individually interesting to them - which you never will be. Many murders and crimes could be solved with that databank, but the globalists do not care even if you kill 100.000 people or steal 100 bio. $, so long that you don't steal from them personally too much or kill none of their few. So essentially - that level of surveillance is irrelevant unless you interact with one of the incredibly few of the world.

Level 2:

Here the surveillance gets several notches lower and can likely be partly accessed by top NSA officials. A good example would be if you happen to be mainstream-believer and started working for Hillary. Then you found out or overheard something unsettling and decided to leak the info. Or you decided to research irregularities of the Clinton Foundation in Haiti. Not only would encryption or any kind of safety measures not help you - you would be executed swiftly via accident, robbery gone wrong, murder-suicide by a team of specialized professionals.
Most people also don't have to be concerned about that unless they interact with the managerial and political class and decide foolishly to cross them.

Level 3:

This is where most of us lie and this is where this unfortunate young man should have put his attention.

Most law-enforcement including the official NSA levels don't have access to the deep-tier surveillance state mentioned above. They rely on emails, Paypal accounts, stupid online media and forum posts, actual leg-work of cops, anti-fraud divisions, undercover forum members and undercover clients of those sites.

Avoiding those agencies is not that difficult if you are a paranoid Gus Fring kind of guy who stays undercover, appears legit:


There are countless criminals who have really defrauded clients and even entire countries of hundreds of millions of dollars. One guy got tens of millions of Euros via VAT scams in the EU. Then he moved to Argentina and even taunted the officials by posting vids of him burning cash on the beach. That one particular guy was only arrested after years, because he was stupid enough to enter an airport in Argentina, thinking that the authorities forgot about him.

Cazes however disregarded even the precautions of the most basic kind. He was not only careless in his internet life, but also in his official private one. First of all - he should never have been in Thailand - his other choice candidates of Liechtenstein and Cyprus were equally bad. Of course he should not have had any social media accounts, accessed even the internet via burner-phones or accounts made in the name of homeless people. Of course he should not have bought houses and fucking married.

While his activities made him a drug-lord, he was only the operator of an Amazon-like platform where users traded illegal things. In my opinion - if he had decided to be a paranoid Gus Fring character, then he could have run off into the sunset with 20 mio. $ in cash. Of course he should have known that such a site will only run a certain time before it gets closed down.

Whether he was working for more powerful people in Canada (some biker gang as alluded) - who knows - would not make much of a difference except that if he actually met someone above, then his problems just got a lot bigger because they would kill him to protect them or even kill his family back home if he decided to flee. If he went into that kind of deal, then he was even more careless because then there would be no way to flee for him, unless he would take his family in Canada with him.

Ether way - most of us don't risk much except public outing as a supposed misogynist - which isn't really much, since 60-80% of the world male population share our views (yes - you suckers who read this - the feeble brainwashed male feminists in the West are a stark minority - Chinese, African, Indian, Muslim, South American and a good portion Western men - they are all shitlords - you are in the stark minority and when harder times come, then you will disappear, become more masculine again).

I think that a lesson here is that if any member assumes someone to engage in illegal activity, then he should contact the forum administrators or Roosh personally. The guy did not post anything illegal here, his claims of quick riches were just strange and his depiction of how he made it did not make sense. There are a few ways of making millions within 2 years, but the path is usually not easy and you compete with hundreds of thousands of highly competent people in a few choice industries (or you build a business from the ground up and are lucky).

As for anyone admiring the bloke - don't. In our world there are a myriad ways of making money more or less honestly without risking as much as he did. And the second lesson is - if you trust the mainstream accounts of our world, then you have already lost on multiple other levels in life as well.

Here's how:

His original name on the forum was different than what it is now, it was changed at some point with gold membership. In quoted replies to his early comments you can see it if you go look.

That original name here is the same user name he used across a dozen forums and websites from what I can see. Tech forums asking about servers, computer security, asian visa stuff, Thai classifieds, gamer forums, etc.

That username is also connected to his UpWork account, which has his real name. Not sure how it is connected, as it's not in the URL or written on his page, but it comes back as a result when searching that username. Perhaps he used it there previously then changed it, or it's in the background of his UpWork.

And, this username has part of his first name.

Basically what happened is:

(known facts)

- First, they got his real name, in two ways; 1) Early password recovery emails and welcome emails from AlphaBay used a Hotmail address. They worked this address and untangled the VPN's/Tor or used undisclosed methods. It wasn't straight forward though as they knew this address 3 years ago according to reports. 2) His username on AlphaBay was Alpha02 (this is different than his old username on RVF/the one he used all around the net I'm talking about). He (surprise!) used that name once on a French language tech forum a decade ago and that forum had his real name attached. This how the FBI first identified him. The guy just couldn't think of new names. If he had even just changed it to Alpha03 they wouldn't have found the old post on that forum when searching.

...then, how they found him on RVF and other forums:

(my logical guesstimation)

- Once they had his real name they did a simple internet search and linked it, through one or multiple websites, to another username. As I said above, I myself found this username connected to his real name in a couple ways- If you searched the other way around (by his real name) you would find this connection as well obviously.

- They then did a search on the username, finding all the posts by that username on the multiple websites he used it on. One of those was RVF. From my brief looking, almost all of the accounts with that username have some corroborating facts making it clear it is the same guy.

Looking into paypal, finding payment, etc was for corroboration after they already knew the username and suspected it was him. The payment just confirmed what they already knew.

Gus Fring would have been easy to spot: if I remember well from the series, didn't he go around using a Chilean passport? Quite a lesson here: dude was a multi millionaire, bought mansion and passport in Antigua, but (seemingly) could never flee to Antigua, stuck as he was under the watchful eyes of his Thai official wife.

Beyond that and in general, there was no hacking or NSA super duper real time key logging or any of that needed.

The guy basically made every retarded mistake that could be made. His original user name here was his first name + some numbers. I would not be surprised if the numbers were the PIN to his debit card or his home address. And he used that username with his real name elsewhere.

He was not a criminal mastermind, he was a basic loser with low self esteem. Because of this fact he took stupid risks, as he could not resist the urge to prove to himself and others that he was not a loser, no matter the risk. When he could not find success with his tech consultancy, and because he had no formal education to leverage or any real work history, he turned to the quick buck of crime. And, because he could not properly plan and execute this scheme either, it too was a failure like everything he did before.

No country would have offered him official protection, as a non-natural born citizen, if he had become so high-profile that half a dozen foreign law enforcement agencies wanted him.

Acquired citizenships would have been voided (flaws would have been found in their acquiring process), long-term residency visas cancelled or waited out, or quite simply, his passport could've been cancelled by Canada (a passport is not a personal property).

The reason why criminals choose Thailand is because they can largely live very open open lives in some places, particularly in tourist areas where the cops are as big criminals as those they are supposed to chase. Countless criminals have lived very public lives on Koh Samui and in Pattaya, some even involved in crime with the police. When they get arrested it is SWAT teams from Bangkok police, not locals.

Where else could you do that? In South America the local gangs would have you quickly and you would be kidnapped. These criminals want this kind of high profile braggard lifestyle.
