The system can adapt. It's simply not the case that until the sun burns out that we're trapped in the world of pen and paper where anyone can make up anything they like. Most serious incidents happen in a few short seconds. The judge should be able to access the short time frame in question and have a clear and unbiased idea of what's happened. A far better idea than getting the written word of an officer that might be upstanding or might be an utter scumbag.

Limiting the right of attorneys to subpoena footage beyond the incident is also a simple matter, and with USB3.0 you can indeed upload 8-12 hours of footage in less than 10 minutes.

It's frankly ridiculous that police can be A-ok with surveillance cameras being set up on every street corner yet baulk at having to wear one themselves when they are literally the most suitable candidates in the world to do so. Go forbid they want privacy on the job then the cameras can be rigged for constant footage only sound "on demand".

That police are resistant to it only damages their position. It's sad in a way. I would rather live in a high-trust society with no surveillance at all, but here we are. It's telling that the elites seem to want cameras over ever square inch of the West but for some reason the very people attending notable disturbances have largely escaped carrying this technology.

This is entirely by design. The elites want the police accountable to only the elites and so they do what they can to shield the thieves and killers wearing the uniform in order to put up the fortress wall with the police and the elites on one side, and the citizenry one the other.

A camera for every cop puts that plan in the grave.

Given that he was not only black but a Muslim refugee, he instantly gave credibility to the mayor’s promises of a more diverse police force. The problem with having a camera on your chest is that it won't capture every bit of relevant footage. We need cops to have cameras on all four sides of their vehicles (with lenses that capture every angle), cameras on their guns, cameras on their chests and cameras on their backs.

Cameras need to be on 24/7 and the data erasable only to specially authorized individuals.

I'm familiar with one incident where a retired police officer (someone I knew, who was a massive dickhead, but thought of himself more along the lines of a hero cop unnecessarily weighed down by bureaucracy) got a job as a campus patrol supervisor at a university.

From the stories I heard, he put a lot of pressure on his subordinates to be as lazy as possible and avoid doing any work unless it was specifically required of them. He was an asshole to those who wanted to do their jobs properly, because he didn't like paperwork and going above the bare minimum himself.

A friend of mine worked with him for a period of time and hated the guy. We talked earlier this year and he reported that the supervisor in question had been fired and charged criminally with negligent use of a firearm for threatening a campus visitor with his sidearm.

The firing and criminal charges resulted from the camera footage from his chest camera.

There is hope.
