I always thought it looked very interesting and maybe something I would consider buying a gaming PC for when it was finished, but that completion date looked a bit too much like it might be somewhere between 2023 and never.
I hope they can pull it off but it's been looking like vaporware for a long time.
Meanwhile I'll just look forward to Elite Dangerous finally hitting the PS4 sometime in the coming months.

I have a PS3 that I bought for around 60 bucks refurbished. It looks and plays like brand new. Got a list of games for a few bucks a pop on amazon and ebay, that I had been intending to play for many years, but got distracted by game and self-improvement. I don't mind being a decade behind everyone else, it costs a small % of what I would have paid when everything was new but the improvements in graphics still seem quite considerable since the last games I played were on the PS2. The first game I played is Skyrim, and for me it looks amazing even on PS3. I've read the PS3 specs and tried to compare it to PC specs and I have no idea how the PS3 manages to play Skyrim smoothly at all. Progress in Skyrim is slow however because I usually prioritize other things over gaming, I should make more time to relax. There is a pile of about a dozen games which I genuinely thought I was going to play, but either Skyrim is a very long game or I don't know what I'm doing in it. Morrowind was an atmospheric game, depressing, especially at the start when you have no power and almost everyone hates you. But I remember thinking it was awesome for it's time, this was ages ago, though. Skyrim's graphics is obviously way better but I don't enjoy Skyrim as I did Morrowind. Is it the plot, the atmosphere or is it because that was like 15 years ago?
The only other game I've played recently was a short one from GOG called "Shogo: Mobile Armor Division". It will play on your laptop, is old, and very short so easy to try out, has a short but great soundtrack, and some of the best weapons I've seen in any game. You are either a person with regular guns, or you take control of a giant robot, which is where the ridiculous weapons come into play. I thought it was fantastic. It ended too short for me, but this had something to do with budget and corporate stuff; it was intended to be epically long, but it was not meant to be. Highly recommended, though, if you fancy an obscure, quirky old school shooter.

I loved Morrowind as well - there was, as far as my memory would have me believe, a strange and wonderful atmosphere to it that the sequels didn't have.
But while that was true for the time it's been several years since I realized that my nostalgic memories of past games have to stay in the past, as - regardless of whether the gameplay still holds up well in some of them - they just look too archaic by more recent standards, and for me visuals - more so in open world games than anywhere else - are a very large part of the immersion.
Original Morrowind graphics vs the Morrowind expansion for Elder Scrolls Online that's coming next month - and ESO doesn't even look impressive compared to singleplayer RPGs like The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn or perhaps even Skyrim at max settings.
(Long video, just skip ahead to various points to see direct location comparisons. The iconic Balmore city from around 4 minutes into the video. And keep in mind that ESO is set 800 years earlier, so some scenery differences, aside from the vastly better visuals)

It's because the PS3 does not have the giant turd of Microsoft Windows resting atop its RAM.

I actually think Morrowind graphics hold up very well, even better than Oblivion. Morrowind had great ART, not just graphics, that really captured the imagination. I also liked how in Morrowind you couldn't complete every quest on your character. For instance I recall there was a conflict with the thieves and fighters guild that prevented you from becoming grandmaster of both. Having to use siltstriders or the mages guild to travel added immersion. I put in a lot of hours in Morrowind and STILL never completed most house quests, never finished morag tong quests, and many others. In fact I don't think I even fully completed Tribunal.
Morrowind and Witcher 3 are in competition for me as best RPG of all time.

I was also massively impressed with Skyrim until the "ultimate sandbox" concept just, to my mind, completely shit itself.
You go to complete a quest and pick up 5 more on the way. The game is just one endless distraction after the next to the point where you've put 50 hours in, you're getting up in levels, still being tasked to kill the the local marauding mudcrabs while alternately having to kill dragons every five seconds that literally become a nuisance.
'Ugh. Another fucking dragon. Can I just leave him alone? Oh wait. He attacked a village and killed a relevant NPC. Now I'm going to lose a whole quest line. Yay.'
The enemy levelling system is also sad and broken. Either you funnel your entire character into a very narrow skill set or you end up fighting monsters way above your pay grade because you chose to take a little bit of everything and your level ended up stupidly high for your large pool of low level skills and attributes.
Beyond that the game simply lends itself to doing a single google search before being broken utterly with a combination of blacksmithing and enchanting, the irony being that the single-hand warrior/blacksmith/enchanter becomes as rich as a king and as powerful as a God on day one but try to build a magic user and you'll be fucked all day long from start to finish.
I understand the cult following. I myself had fun with it breaking the system doing autistic shit like casting soul trap on my horse 5000 times to level up the skill to max (since it was the only way to get relevantly powerful summon spells early in the game) but unlike the me of 15 years ago I tired of that bullshit pretty quickly and started to see the matrix instead of the game world.
One thing these games need to do is put a dagger in the heart of the "steal everything, sell everything" mentality. There should be a basic economic system whereby you can sell five mugs in any given village for a fair price but if you try to sell 50 then understandably you're going to get an extremely shitty price for them. God forbid you try to sell the Jarl's every knife, fork and plate, the shopkeeper should tell you to fuck off, since he'd obviously go out of business if he wasted all his capital on 1000 potatoes when there are only 4 people in the town and potato harvest season is about to start.
Devs should just pull the plug on stupid levels of inventory. Carrying around five suits of armour is just fucking nonsensical, as is leaving a bunch of naked corpses in your wake.

Has to be the funniest joke of the gaming industry since GamerGate. So many people put hudnreds, if not thousands of dolalrs into it and all for them to fail?
I'll wait and see but if it does fail then the gaming industry proves it cannot hope to make a game of such amgnitude but will cheat morons ouf of their cash with a few fancy demos and pretty graphics.
Hell the graphics will be borderline dated by the time it comes out. We have 1080s now and the software will be available to get the most out of them in the coming years.

Playing through Witcher 2. I'm not sure why, but I'm trying to keep Geralt in line with my ideals. I avenged the troll's wife rather than killing him, and cured his alcoholism. I almost went to the brothel, but decided I had Triss, and she was enough (and cleaner, I'll merit.) Not sure what to do about Loredo. He's a weasel for sure.

I tend to do that in most of my RPGs. Going full Renegade in Mass Effect 2 was a bit of a struggle for me, though I did it just because I was playing a woman on that runthrough and I wanted her to be an absolute bitch

It's the opposite for me usually. I generally try to role-play heavily. I have an idea for a character, I role-play that character. Geralt on the other hand I'm guiding, like a benevolent uncle.
Also fuck that elf bitch setting up shit for the Scoi'atael.

I need to pick that game back up. At the end of Chapter 1 the game diverges, and I only took the Elf's path.

Aha, so I am not going insane. Skyrim's graphics are great but it just consumes time like no other game I've played and often for no apparent reason. I could probably have completed 5 games during this time. You just have to keep making weapons you're never going to use to increase smithing skill and same with alchemy and stuff. Just annoying. And yeah, when you go along your business on a quest you encounter side quests thrown at you so you don't know where you're really going most of the time.
Plus I really hate to kill dragons because I always thought they were good, in Oblivion the Emperor used the Amulet to turn into a dragon to beat that giant daedric god which I thought was a great ending. After that the dragon froze and became a stone statue in the middle of the city.
I want to quit Skyrim but I figure I've come this far some day I have to complete it. But that never happens as I never have the time or energy to turn on the console to play it, so no other games get played either. All these games which "look" awesome... maybe I've outgrown my ability to enjoy games. Maybe I'm like Stan in that episode where he's diagnosed with Ass Burgers. Because all the games just seem shitty to me, even though I can imagine my 10 year old self enjoying them hugely. I don't enjoy hunting skanks but I do enjoy banging them, but after I ejaculate I would even prefer to play Skyrim than talk to the girl. My playlist also changes from soft R&B to depressing rap like Illmatic and Ready to Die.
@Mike, that ESO for Morrowind looks great, unfortunately I'll likely never play it because of my crap system. When I played Morrowind though I had all the graphics enhancing mods which were a good few GBs that made Morrowind look quite good.

That's Morrowind for ESO .
I've tried a lot of MMORPGs over the last 15 years or so (starting with Anarchy Online). While I rarely bother with guilds, grouping - aside from automated grouping - and most of the other social features I kind of like the idea of running around in a live virtual world with thousands of other people (not unlike real life really, I manage most things on my own but still enjoy seeing other people on the streets), although I have yet to find an MMO that kept my attention for more than 4-6 months, and the vast majority I've tried much shorter than that.
I'm trying Elder Scrolls Online again at the moment (played for a month or two after the original PC release - I think my previous laptop could just about scrape by - then briefly on PS4 when it was released there a year a so ago, and now on PS4 again). It's pretty good as far as MMORPGs go but it most certainly is an MMO in Elder Scrolls dressing, so anyone going in expecting it to feel like Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim - particularly if they have no or little prior MMO experience - is likely to be sorely disappointed.

I think one of the great mysteries of our time will be why millions of raving politically correct drones collectively put billions of hours into a video game where one of the main themes was the pursuit of a Nordic Ethnostate.

Those are never ending projects, aren't they? First it was Morrowind in Oblivion years ago, then Morrowind and Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. I've seen demo footage but I always got the impression that none of those projects ever moved out of the alpha testing stage?

Huh, true, but still sometimes these modders really surprise everyone around them. Like for example guys that made Black Mesa Source, which is Half Life 1 in upgraded Half Life 2 Source engine. Although game doesn't have final Xen chapters.
Fingers crossed for them, whoever is developing either Undying or Morrowind.
