Despite fighting games usually being bad purchases for me (I lamented buying SFV a few months ago) because I don't have the patience to put in the dedication required to move much past button mashing, I bought both Injustice 2 a couple of weeks ago and Tekken 7 the other night.

Two very different fighters, but so far Injustice 2 feels most to my liking, in terms of gameplay, character roster, single player content (not ready to venture online yet) and visuals.

Plus I was raised on Tekken at the arcade so the series holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps I'm biased but I don't think I've ever played a fighter even on Day 1 that long other than Soul Calibur II and IV(logged in a 1000 hours on both easily over the years). So I've got a good feeling this rush is going to last.

I have good memories of Tekken 3.

A friend of mine and I played a marathon of 120 games, him playing Jin and me playing Paul. We'd originally started with the rule that if anyone got three matches ahead of the other then they'd win outright, for great honour. Many hours later at 61v61 we decided "fuck it, it's a draw".

My favorite fighting games have been Street Fighter 2. Always would fuck people up with Ken and Chun Li.

I loved the Smash Bros game that had Roy from the Fire Emblem series. I would normally play with Yoshi or other random characters that did hilarious kills but if I went on a losing streak I would get Roy. He was the perfect character for my playing style so I would just fuck people up. My cousins and brother made a rule that a couldn't choose him.

That was Super Smash Bros Melee. I always played as Roy too, he's great for players who aren't much good at fighting games (i.e., me.)

I'm not usually a fan of remasters but my fingers are itching to play WipEout again. Includes a slight graphical upgrade for WipEout HD and HD Fury from the PS3 (they were already phenomenal looking games back then and among the few that ran at 1080p, 60 fps) and a bigger one for the third inclusion, WipEout 2048 from the PS Vita (I never played that one).

2048 was great. A bit limited on the career mode, but the racing mechanics and handling were easily the best of the series.

I've been playing the Omega Collection for a few hours, parts of the 2048 campaign and various races, time trials and zone mode for both 2048 and HD (Fury). I prefer zone mode in WipEout HD, the campaign seems better in 2048.

The style of the tracks are the most obvious difference with the 2048 - naturally - looking slightly more near future.
As far as the handling differences go between 2048 and HD I'm not ready to say I prefer one over the other and certainly not that one is better than the other being down to anything more than personal preference. They actually don't feel all that different to me - 2048 perhaps sliding a little more while HD is a bit more bouncy.

Visuals hold up quite well here nine years after the original PS3 release of WipEout HD - which itself had tracks based on the older PSP Pure and Pulse games.
The Omega Collection is a near must have for every PS4 owner in my opinion. And not just those who like me have nostalgic memories of the original game on the PS1 around 25 years ago. My girlfriend and I used to rent a PS1 for a day or two at a time to play WipEout and Tekken.

I turned everything possible to off or low, still unplayable. It's all right though, got the first Witcher game for $1.49 on steam last week. Enjoying it so far.

Wipeout was great. Had it back on PS3.

Nearly went crazy trying to get the "Beat Zico" trophy back then (I was a teenager don't blame me). Took me an entire weekend and endless frustration. I got it though, almost cried in joy.

I still remember the last cup race in the first game, having to make a hard airbrake zero-acceleration loss whip through the pits on every lap just to survive and keep the lead.

Even my puny hands were in danger of crushing the controller to dust. White knuckles would be an understatement.

I just finished a four laps online race - I finished third but the first guy was 30 seconds ahead of us. I don't feel my WipEout skills have rusted entirely (and I play a lot of racing games in general) but some people are just unbelievably fast.
Playing reliably on the highest speed (phantom) was always out of reach for me on the PS3. Playing zone mode (where the speed gets increasingly higher, I usually crash - wipe out - after a lap or two after hitting phantom speed).

I'm not sure if the speeds listed in game are accurate within the measurements of the virtual world (certainly feels much, much faster than going 300 kph in a car racing sim, and they probably pride themselves of accurate distances and speed, even if things like field of view can play trickery on the perception), but if so I don't feel too bad about losing control at 1,400 kph.

Rapier was always my favorite. It's fast, but not enough that one little mistake can have you pinballing on the track. At faster speeds it's really about subtle touches, and you really need a tight racing line.

Nowadays I play simulator type racers (project cars). As fun as Wipeout is nothing beats the excitement of something that's so close to life.

I'm a big fan of racing sims too. Used to play on PC with assorted Logitech wheels but fortunately even the consoles are pretty well served in the sim genre now.
On the PS4 I'm using a Thrustmaster T150 wheel with Assetto Corsa, Project Cars and Dirt Rally (probably getting Dirt 4 in a few days).

Looking forward very much to Project Cars 2. Completely unexcited about the Playstation long running "sim" Gran Turismo. Aside from being years over due the developers seem happy to live in their own little vacuum (that's a bit of a thing with Japanese developers in the last 5-10 years, isn't it?) and pretending that the rest of the genre hasn't improved and leaped ahead in in sounds (well, Gran Turismo failed in that area in every iteration), physics, AI, visuals etc.
From the GT Sports beta footage it looks like it could turn out to be a decent purchase with some much needed improvements in a few areas, but it still looks to me like something that's likely to be bettered by Project Cars 2 in nearly every area that matters.

But for now back to futuristic anti-grav racing.

Well, i am at work break, so i decided to try some new games. So far, i am dissapointed.

The long journey home: Humanity first FTL ship have an accident and ends 120 LY from home. You have your ship, a lander, and the 4 crew members and they thing they bring to get the mission back home. The premise is good, but for a finished game, it feels....well, unfinished. You have no voice acting, only music. Also, managing the ship orbits and the lander is a PITA.

Stars in Shadow: Another space 4X game. I like the design, its like the old MMO2 (also the artist is a MMO2 fan), but also feels imcomplete.

Unpopular opinion but in a similar vein of thought that's why I consider Gran Turismo the greatest racing games series of all time. Though I give best racing game to Need for Speed Underground 2.

NFSU2 was the best arcade racer for its time.

I played the hell out of GT5. It was my first move from arcade racer to sim. But I thought then that it was more sim than it really was.

Play PC and you'll see GT as the arcade racer it is. That said it's not too hardcore. I've heard AC is even more sim than PC.

In terms of driving feel that comes as close to real life as possible, Assetto Corsa is probably the best I've ever felt (playing on PS4, but in the past I've played a bunch of sims on PC, ranging from F1 2001 GT mods over GTR1 and 2, rFactor and Live for Speed to iRacing and several others).
Unfortunately it feels limited when it comes to actual racing with not enough cars on track (can't remember if the number is higher in the PC version, and I know it's also some patches and improvements ahead of the console versions), poor AI and no dynamic weather and time of day.

For hotlapping in particularly road cars but also some race cars, nothing currently beats Assetto Corsa in my opinion. However for racing I need Project Cars, which is a flawed but much more complete package.
With hopefully improved physics in Project Cars 2 along with the driver rating penalty system (which will finally make me consider online racing again, previously iRacing is really the only one where I've bothered with that) maybe one sim will be all I'll need for a while. Or not.

The thing I like most about PC is that the AI is very well done for the most part. I always have enjoyable offline races.

It's hard to enjoy any online race because most people online are idiots. They think it's Burnout.
