If you are doing good, no need for boost.
In my location I don't actually see a big change when I boost, maybe a 10% increase in matches.
The only benefit of tinder plus is the location changes for traveling. I also find it useful to "trick the algorithm". Once a month I swipe in a place like Manila for 10 minutes, get a few 100 matches, and get myself on top of the "hot guy" pile. You could do the same with bluestacks for free.
Superliking I use a couple time a month for a girl which profile I really like (I have a weakness for metal/goth looking 18-19 girls, for example, or a black girl which is a rarity here in Eastern Europe). I just open with "superliked for xxxx" and mention something they have in their profile, normally the music. Never had a girl reacting like it was beta.
Also in a previous message I said I was still getting 1 or 2 dates per week. I can't edit it now, but it was supposed to be bangs per week. As I said I don't go on tinder dates, I always invite to my place directly.

How do I know it's not as good as it used to be?
Fall 2016-Spring 2017 - make new account. Accumulate over 5000 matches.
Delete account. Remake. Same photos. 250 matches in a month.
In nyc, I was able to run Boost and get around 100 matches in a 24-48 hour period.
Now, I only get around 15 matches per boost.
I don't care about number of matches, but number of bangs. If I still fuck enough Tinder girls per week with no effort, less matches actually means that my match to bang ratio improved, therefore making tinder better?
Why do you need 2500 matches per week? Even if you only got 50 matches per week, 20 would respond to your opener, you invite them to fuck at your place, if 2 or 3 say yes... I'm a very happy customer. I was also matching 1000 or 2000 per day in some places in Asia, and I didn't even have time to see every profile, one can only bang so many girls per day even on vacation.
But 50 for NYC? that sounds pretty bad... I've had more matches in small rural EU towns. Did you try to relocate for a couple days/change pictures? That usually works very well for me.

First off, the algorithm punishes mass swiping. This change was a huge blow to tinder's effectiveness. I can swipe for 30 minutes and get 2-3 matches. When boost is activated, and my profile is moved to the top of the stack, I get 30 matches in 30 minutes.
Second, you have to be aggressive with matches. I used to think aggressive was meeting up with a few days, but on tinder you need to push for same day meetups. You hit a girl up on Tuesday, your schedules don't work out until Saturday. The momentum and attraction dies in the deadspace. That's not to say you can't schedule weekend dates mid-week, but it is not an effective tactic.
Third, you have to manage you matches. Many girls don't respond quickly. Thus you lose track of conversation A while you engage in conversation B. The girl from A sends a message at the same time the girl from B does, you respond to B but completely forget about A. The A conversation dies due to your lack of response. Or vice versa, the girl sees your message but then her mom/dad/friend/boyfriend gets her attention, then it's hours later and the momentum is lost.
With all three points combined, the days of mass swiping are over. Maybe some mass swiping combing with a boost in a new area, but besides that it's more of a snipers game. You swipe a few girls a day, and focus on 3-5 matches for the prime date nights (Thursday-Saturday).
A lot of people will say: Up your game, be the girl guys chase, etc, etc. This is great advice in general, but in terms of tinder it is useless. Men on tinder are the buyers in the sellers market, we are a dime a dozen and are easy to replace. The fact is that the second I end a conversation with an attractive female there is another guy just as cool/attractive/etc right behind me with the same exact goal. Hell, he's probably reading this thread now. Become a better man, but do it for yourself, not for tinder.
I will agree that the "golden days" are over. But tinder is still an effective tool. In fact there is really no easier way to get laid while traveling than tinder. That is where it excels. However it is on the decline from it's peak and will probably plateau out somewhere around being just useful enough to keep me around.
My best tinder strategy:
3 Pictures.
One sentence bio.
Use super-likes (sure they seem beta, but you get moved to the top of the stack)
Use boost on Sunday night.
Ignore sunday night matches until thursday. (Unless they open you, then game as usual)
On Thursday night: Standard opener (copy and paste but include her name in it so it seems personal. I always have the girls name at the end of the copy and paste. It's easier to paste the message, delete the old girls name, put the new girls name in, and hit send).
Standard response (seriously, they all respond the same)
3-4 messages of banter + some bait
Throw out "When are you normally free, I'm going to hit X tonight" (If shes free tonight and bites, great. Else I try to make to plans for when she is. If it is anything past the current weeking, I know I'm fighting an uphill battle and chances are it isn't going to happen)
So that's my experience with tinder lately. No mass sniping, Sniper game, hit them up on days I am free and go for same-day dates. Treat tinder/online as a supplement to game while you focus on improving yourself and chatting up the cuties you see every day while your out an about.
Yes, I agree with spam liking being over. Did it ever work? I think I swipe right on half the profiles more or less.
I even snipe my matches depending on how responsive/excited to speak with me they are.
70% of matches give boring answers/one liners/have western entitled attitudes = don't even bother, I stop replying. You may warm a few of them up, but it's too time consuming and not worth my effort.
30% of matches respond well (long paragraphs, or in my case as my bio says I'm Spanish, I will get 2 or 3 girls per week who study Spanish at university so they will start talking Spanish to me). Those matches I keep the conversation going and invite directly to my place very early (somewhere between message 2 and 5).
But as you said, women have the power in the Tinder market and we are the merchandise.
My experience may be better than other guys because I stand out (despite being a short average looking guy) as an exotic Spanish guy who works in EE and is learning the language (as opposed to the lame tourists).
But even back home, I play the game of "local that can make the best local drinks" and target tourists... there is always a niche.
If you don't stand out, maybe you should do something more interesting with your life/profile pics?
Trust me, if your profile pic is you scuba diving outside the cage with a white shark, you will stand out.
Actually a thing that I find very useful to do is:
First thing when I arrive to a new location, spend some time swiping for men (obviously you right sweep all of them). Now you know what you are competing against, and you will see a pattern in the kind of profiles guys have. Now make your profile the exact opposite.

But as of a couple of months ago: if you change location with tinder plus, it either shows the girl blank space (if you "hide location") where the distance should be.... or it displays "1 mile away."
Are you sure? I always hide my distance because I think they see the real distance, which is the most stupid thing about tinder plus. No girl ever said anything about the missing distance.
