I guess I should disclose its very high risk, more so than than normal, but I see huge upside. Maybe don't buy more than 10% of your stack if you decide to do it. I just don't see it going to zero, and could see it double.

But at the same time you could say that for penny stocks, and that doesn't always work out.

Again, you are wrong and engaging in dumb attempts at personal bullshit .. and I already mentioned several times that it is a courtesy to other RVF guys to attempt to stick to the topic of the thread.

Sure, there can be some BTC connections with various alts, but if the postings are only about various alts (or going on some deep alt tangent that has little to do with BTC), then most likely those kinds of topics would be more appropriate for another thread (such as the alt thread) - otherwise those kinds of posters would be engaging in derailment of this thread - and possibly clutter - that has nothing to do with me - but is already a pre-existing rule, custom and courtesy on RVF to attempt to reasonably stick to the topic of the thread (or maybe petition Admins to have the title of the thread changed - which I recall was already done once on this thread).

By the way, on topic of this actual thread... real decent ongoing upwards price pressures on BTC today..... and maybe going into day four of a decent recovery from the $900-ish bottom - maybe even a bit better than expected - a kind of nice relief that hopefully continues for those who are holding, have bought in or have leveraged longs.

I see only one poster who argues for two or more threads about crypto currencies while everyone else seems to be perfectly fine with keeping the discussion to one thread.

If you are such a smart ass and characterizing stupid ass irrelevant matters as arguing, then why don't you and your supposed hypothetical "we" get the name of this thread changed by either Pants or an RVF admin?

You can post whatever you like, and hopefully the more relevant and substantive your post, then the more likely no one is going to say anything, including yours truly.

By the way, this current line of discussion regarding whether or not alts are within the topic of this thread or should be in the topics of this thread seems to be totally unnecessary and merely a means of provoking what should be considered as petty "non-issues."

Have you heard about bitcoin? Look we have a little correction right now? We were pushing the mid $1060s and now we seem to have a bit of a correction into the lower $1030s. Any bitcoin related thoughts? Which way you think the price is going? Are you thinking of buying, selling or engaging in some kind of margin trading? Do you think seg wit is going to gain momentum in this recent barrage of BU FUD or do you think that any of the BU promoters are going to suffer any backlash?

There are a lot of interesting topics out there related to bitcoin above and beyond your seemingly ongoing butthurt desires to water down bitcoin topics with alt coin topic distractions.

Any comments about those bitcoin related topics? or do you want to continue to petition for the vote of "we" about the distracting and petty idea to change of the topic of this thread?

Your question is a bit broad, and applies to a lot of different cryptos.

A large majority of cryptos are entered into through BTC, although some cryptos have dollar or Euro trading pairs or some other fiat trading pairs - so each exchange is going to differ concerning what are the cryptos that they trade and what are their trading pairs and the variety of ways that you might get in through a variety of exchanges and depending on trading pairs.

Furthermore, once you are holding one kind of crypto, whether that is bitcoin or litecoin or monero or ethereum or ripple then you can move those cryptos between exchanges as well, so long as the other exchange also carries your target crypto.

So, once you go to poloniex, you will see the various cryptos that it carries and whether you want to start by sending a crypto to poloniex or whether you want to send some kind of fiat there (depending on which fiats they may accept, as well).

Sure Armogan can recommend a way that he gets into a certain crypto(s), but there are likely other options to get in and to trade them as well, so long as you know which exchange is trading that particular target crypto.

Guys discuss what you want. Most other cryptos relate to btc. If JJG pushes back, you don't have to respond. I like JJG's posts and I get he's centerd on bitcoin. The other threads don't get enough attention so this works. I sell back to btc a lot anyway, so it all relates.

GNT is btc/eth only.
JayJuanGee 路 2017-03-28 19:48:00 路 #3766
Along the same lines of my posts of the last three days (after the daily candle had closed), I will observe that today's candle ended up green - and it seemed to be another squeaker of a green day - and maybe even a bit of a pump in the last minutes in order to achieve today's green candle.

Accordingly, we have 4 daily green candles in a row and two out of the four were squeaker candles.

What it means from here is beyond my pay grade... Laugh

so I will stick to my earlier characterization regarding the $950 to $1150 consolidation range.. and my suggestion that none of us should get too alarmed with BTC prices that might move quickly but are still within the range.

On the other hand, if it appears that prices are going to break out in one direction or another, then if you are going to panic, then that would be the most reasonable time to panic.

Without getting too much into the substance of what you are saying here, SunW, I would like to ask you what are you doing with you margin long?

I hate to put you on the spot, and I could understand if you don't really want to say, but my current thinking is that you are a bit of the gambling type - and accordingly, you are keeping it open.. for a bit longer to see how the next few days play out.

So, in that regard, I understand that sometimes guys do not necessarily want to say what they are going to do, before they have actually done it because they do not necessarily know for sure and/or they do not want to tip others off in such a way that could possibly foil the plan under certain market conditions...

On the other hand, it is not necessarily a bad thing to hear from you about some of your strategies to the extent that they are not a trade secret or maybe you can just tell us part of the way that you think about the margin trading matter? For example, you could say that you would not close a margin long in this situation until x price because you think that x price is a reasonable price to achieve. Or, you could say, if BTC prices were to rises y% in z time, then that would cause you to close it.. or you could say that if BTC prices fall to w, then you would close it.

There are certainly variations, but my understanding with margin is that there is also a time factor, so the longer that you hold the position open, the more that you are charged on a time percentage basis (like an interest rate), so that could incentivize you to close more quickly in order to control some of those kinds of costs?

This is the most straightforward question I've ever heard. You have to buy GNT with crypto, either BTC or ETH.

The easiest way to do this is to buy ETH through coinbase. Go to this site: Wheeeeeeee! Send your ETH to an address that is offering GNT. DO NOT SEND FROM AN EXCHANGE WALLET. You have to send from a wallet in which you own the private keys. It is a smart contract, using ETH functionality, to automatically send you GNT based on the rate negotiated, which is displayed.

You cannot be scammed based on the way smart contracts are setup. A little bit of assurance, I have done this myself.

Personally, I buy on Poloniex because I find the rates are more competitive.

I trade on Gemini, GDAX, Kraken (cryptowatch.ch), and Poloniex depending on what they are offering and what the rates are. I monitor them all simultaneously using tradeblock.com. This is especially good during high volatility times, when you can arbitrage price differences.

When I anticipate high volatility I send fiat AND coins to multiple exchanges. Buy and sell accordingly to capitalize on 11th grade arbitrage.

I mainly use Poloniex for pretty stupid reasons: the trollbox is hilarious (though I get banned every hour), and I have tier 4 verification status. But it is not possible to buy directly with fiat, you have to use tether.io to get USDT. So I mainly use Poloniex for trading alt/BTC pairs and making margin trades. It is, however, run by a bunch of neckbeards, which I confirmed via skype calls. I have even seen Skank_Hunt in the trollbox, but always banned when he's on.

Gemini, the volume is absolute shit and the layout is retarded. However, it is good for making ONE large purchase trade. The market size can typically handle it, and they don't charge wire transfer fees. Honestly, negligible when typical fiat purchases are at least five figures. But, hey theres a little Jew in all of us.

GDAX is good. Very, very good liquidity, solid layout. But you can't margin trade. Potential subpoena from the IRS regarding trade history too. Need to go over to shady Poloniex to sleep well at night. Tends to go down during high volatility times, which has happened to me in the past.

Kraken is probably second best. You can margin, no limit on crypto withdrawals, and cryptowatch.ch has a decent layout. Just prefer the layout on Poloniex and the liquidity is pretty unrivaled there. Plus they cap you at $25k margin, which almost defeats the purpose. Why go on margin if you ain't gonna fuk some hoes?

Regarding interest on margin. It's really negligible, interest rates are laughably low. Maybe you pay a couple hundred dollars in interest, but good margin trades will net you a few thousand easy.

Great experientially descriptive post, Armogan.

Just to clarify one point: I cannot recall exactly, maybe a few weeks ago, GDAX added margin trading to their platform. If you have an account on GDAX, you have to go through some additional process to turn on and to set up the margin trading - and I did not attempt to set it up on my account because at this time, for my own personal reasons, I am not really very interested in getting into margin trading.
Armogan 路 2017-03-28 22:05:00 路 #3770
This is true they did add margin trading recently. But you need to be an individual with $10m in discretionary funds I believe, or an institutional buyer.

Personally, if I had $10m in discretionary funds to buy crypto it wouldn't matter. I'd be dead in a matter of hours from hookers and blow somewhere in Colombia. I'll consider this a good thing. Such is life.

I presume that you are referring to the current hardfork that is threatened by BU et al, and your non-specific prediction kind of assumes (from your point of view) a decent probability of such a hardfork taking place.

Nonetheless, you do not provide any kind of timeline for your prediction, so from your view this hardfork stagnation and supposed negative price pressures is just going to be hanging and hanging and hanging and BTC prices are going to stay stagnant (dropping in your words).

Based on current events, including increasing blaming of BU for engaging in nonsensical threats and even current, decent and ongoing upwards price pressures, your "dropping" prediction does not seem to be very likely to take place anytime in the near future... and like I already asserted, we gotta get below $950 before I would even start to consider any of the current movement as dropping.

By the way, the price needs to drop below $1009 on the daily weighted average to fall below 50 day all time high prices... we are currently floating in 50 day all time high prices (see this chart, today was at 36 day all time high point), so bitcoin is not in a bad place as you seem to want to suggest, and surely it is possible that BTC prices could drop merely for the sake of getting out of the all time high territory, but even such a drop would not necessarily signify that bitcoin is in a bad place in terms of its overall fundamentals - or even that much significant should be attributed to the ongoing marketing of the hardforking FUDsters.

One thing that people haven't mentioned is that there is another ETF decision March 30th, I expect it to get rejected as well. No idea if this will have an impact on price, seems it might be minimal.

But I'm contemplating some strategies to profit of this. Could be an opportunity, not sure yet.

Here's some fresh off the press news about the second ETF denial (SolidX).

JJG - only netted $400 total, so $40 each 1 btc. Wish I sold higher.

Armogan - I like GNT. I want to own 250K of it and got a lot of right now, but gotta wait for dumpers to dump to get more!

As you saw in my earlier post, I kind of speculated that you were going to hold your margin long position open for longer - yet I definitely appreciate both the feeling of locking in known profits and feeling some regrets regarding possible ways to have played the situation better.

Accordingly, even some of the most seasoned traders can learn to hone techniques that work better for them in future trade situations.

By the way, 3 more hours before today's candle closes, and as I type it is looking like another possible nail biter - the candle has to close about $1043 on bitstamp in order to be green...

Since todays, prices (and the prices of the last couple days) have been bouncing between about $1010 and $1060, it probably does not make too much of a difference one way or another if today's candle closes within 2% or 3% of $1043.... if we get bigger moves outside of the range of the last couple of days will likely cause more justifications to get excited.. whether you happen to be a bear or a bull... all though 2-3% up would likely cause for more excitement than 2-3% down, since down would logically seem to be the direction of least resistance, no?

We did have a couple of links for it last year, but those links seem to no longer be available.
