What you think wait a day or two?

250K coins, target at $0.03 or less equals maximum of $7500 total trade. Upside I see is GNT could be $1-5 in three to five years, so if I get it right, I get $250K to $1.25 million. On $7500? I'm down!
Armogan · 2017-03-29 19:55:00 · #3783
Yeah, I agree.

I misunderstood. I don't know how much asperger-Rawmeo computer coin you guys have haha.

How do you get $250k to $1.2m, I thought you said 7.5k worth.

Don't think it's going back down to .03 though. They gonna release Brass Golem Q2, sometime soon.
SunW · 2017-03-29 20:03:00 · #3784
I actually own 10,247 asperger-Rawmeo computer coins. Got a good price too.

LOL

Yeah $7500/$0.03 is 250K GNT. I view the upside of GNT as $1-5 per GNT, so $1x250000.

GNT up 25% already.. Cheers the for tip Armogan. Had a look at the whitepaper and it definitely looks like there's potential there.

Instead of discussing the price per coin I think market cap is a better measure. GNT is currently 56 million, I can easily see that doubling in the next few months and that would still only be half the market cap of Litecoin or ETC. Long term depends on the developers and how much progress they make, I've seen a lot of these things crash and burn when people realize the dev team is just a few guys and it takes years for even small milestones to be met. (Not saying this will be the case with GNT - will have to wait and see.)

Did you actually set up an account on Poloniex and get some GNT or did you do something else?

I just looked at the BTC pair on Poloniex, and it looks like it did nearly a 3x spike in the past hour and then returned back down, partly, but still seems to be up 25% higher than the earlier 25% from today that you mentioned.

By the way, you are correct that fundamentals of any comparison is better accomplished by market cap considerations rather than price per unit.
JayJuanGee · 2017-03-30 09:45:00 · #3788
Back to the real topic of this thread...

I just saw a 500 coin dump on stamp that brought the price down from $1027 to $1017

Now there is a 363 wall of coins at $1020.. I am not sure if that stopped the dump in its track or not, but a little bit of quick action can be interesting to see what the price is going to do.

Edit: A few minutes later, the 363 wall is gone.. so we will see what happens, if there is another dump attempt.

The price bounced back up, but sometimes it still can be dangerous to call victory too soon and to believe that the battle is over because dumps will eat away at support, and then maybe sooner or later no one will be willing to put up another wall of 363 coins or whatever other amount would do the trick to avert additional dumps.

I agree with the market capitalization comparison. But JJG stop spreading FUD. It's up to $.08 a coin this morning, basically a 60% return since when I first spoke about this.

I'm not making any more public predictions. I say one thing and all you neckbeards go and buy and it it spikes before I can get my wires in. My 5k investment from over the weekend has doubled. The $200 worth I bought at the beginning of the month has tripled. I swiftly kicked myself in the balls this morning because I didn't throw 20k at like I said I would.

Still I'd expect some sort of correction. You don't jump that much that quickly without a correction.

Why don't you take your discussion of this off topic coin to another thread?

I am not spreading FUD about your bullshit coin. O.k. surely you can make millions with it, but that does not make it on topic.

Regarding my supposed FUD I merely made an observation that the price went up 25% and then additional 3x and then came back down. Whether I had the right chart or not whatever I said pretty much seems to line up with what you just said regarding recent price movements... at least good enough to be an observation rather than FUD about an off topic issue.

I got into bitcoin at the beginning of last year.

After reading several books on the 2008 financial crisis, the history of debt, and the creation of the Federal Reserve, I knew enough about the modern financial system and its plethora of shit fiat currencies to realize bitcoin was going to be a big deal.

From January 2016 through the halving I bought a few dozen coins, then a few dozen more after I won about $20k betting on Donald Trump to win the election. Since then I've continued to buy in small amounts, generally whenever it takes a big dip - I'll just take whatever extra cash I have lying around that I know I won't need any time soon and convert it to BTC. I'm currently averaging about $700/coin.

Although my interest in bitcoin (and crypto in general) has only accelerated these last few months, the more I learn about the space the less confidence I seem to have in making any claims/assertions regarding future predictions.

Crypto is this incredible amalgamation of IT (computer networking/data transmission), economics (game theory, supply/demand dynamics), finance (fundamental and technical analysis, trading strategies), cryptography, and of course the applied psychology of dealing with the millions of other (frustratingly irrational) humans also occupying the space.

So in order to truly understand these paradigm-shifting technologies, you have to understand all the underlying component parts, and obviously that's no small feat. The more I learn in any one of these areas, the more I realize how much I still have left to learn, and it's often this feeling that prevents me from attempting to actively trade bitcoin or any of the alts. Easy to lose money trading; hard to lose money hodling.

With that being said, I'll leave a few random thoughts here and hopefully that will spark some new conversations.

---

This really ought to be called "The Crypto Thread" now. I believe bitcoin still is and will remain dominant in the sphere, but with the recent alt-coin surge and mainstream ETH adoption, anyone who isn't paying attention to crypto as a whole is missing the big picture.

---

The hardest part of trading/investing in the crypto community is finding good information.

Betting on the election was easy when The Trump Thread not only crowdsourced the best news from around the web, but also contained legitimate information and on-the-ground updates from the RVF crew themselves. I have yet to find anything like that for crypto.

The best I can do is skim the reddits and Slack groups for various tokens, while following a few of the industry figureheads on Twitter. News aggregation sites like CoinDesk are almost worthless, as they're either updating me on old news I already know or shilling for whatever product or company their holding group has acquired recently. If anyone has any recommendations on people/blogs/podcasts to follow I'd greatly appreciate it.

---

The one exception to the above that I've found is Andreas Antonopolous. His YouTube channel is full of bitcoin lectures and Q&A sessions that are as interesting as they are informative, and he literally wrote the book on Mastering Bitcoin. For those who would rather read than watch, he's compiled the majority of his lectures into a short book called The Internet of Money, which I also have and is very good.

---

I'm amazed that this thread (or crypto in general) isn't more popular here on the RVF. From making money without an employer, to moving funds across borders, to hiding assets from ex-wives, you'd think that more of us would have jumped on the crypto bandwagon by now. I'm doing my best to tell everyone I know about it, and I need to start linking to this thread when posting elsewhere on the RVF. If we had a crypto thread on par with the Donald Trump Thread we'd all be retired millionaires by 2020.

I am not sure what to make of the current bitcoin scaling debate.

On the one hand, a congested network is a great problem to have. So many people are using bitcoin that it's clogging the network? That's WAY better than Mt. Gox collapsing, an exchange getting hacked, the PBOC freezing exchange withdrawals, Core developers ragequitting, accidental forks, etc.

And not only did Bitcoin survive those difficulties, it THRIVED on them. Anti-fragile systems love volatility, and I'd argue that's exactly what we've seen throughout Bitcoin's checkered past: an anti-fragile system continuously strengthened by whatever attack doesn't kill it. I imagine if the scaling debate was solved tomorrow we'd see $2,000 bitcoin in a matter of weeks.

On the other hand, we seem to be in something of a Mexican standoff, where neither side has the ability to eliminate the other, and this stagnation does not come without a cost. Just this past month, billions of dollars have poured into the alt-coin community, and Bitcoin's market share has fallen to an all-time low (67.2% at the time of writing).

While I look at bitcoin's long history of overcoming obstacles and still have faith it will somehow find a way out of this, the Myspace/Facebook analogy is starting to look more credible. It's especially difficult to remain positive when the biggest opportunity for bitcoin (the 4 billion people on the planet that don't have access to traditional banking/financial systems) is currently out of reach due to massively inflated transaction fees.

---

I've shifted some of my bitcoin holdings to ETH, which I believe in the short-term may actually be more of a crypto safe haven than bitcoin. It's the only major token (from what I've seen) that currently has mainstream support, a thriving user base, a united development team with a solid roadmap, AND a fundamental value prop separate from mere speculation.

("Short term" is the key phrase here though. As Antonopolous said in his recent Q&A concerning the scaling debate, "Don't confuse smooth sailing for good sailors." While there are quite a few ETH bulls calling for "the flippening," where ETH replaces BTC as the #1 crypto by market cap, I'd caution against such unrestrained optimism. Any crypto looking to scale that big is inevitably going to run into problems of its own.)

---

While I'm unsure how much of the rise in ETH can be attributed to new money coming in versus bitcoin outflows looking for a more exciting playground, I imagine for the vast majority of alts it's the latter. Some tokens like Monero or Iconomi may provide real use cases, but it seems to me that most of the price appreciation elsewhere is pure speculation. I'd expect to see most of that money flow back to Bitcoin the minute the scaling debate is resolved.

(I'm split on ETH-based tokens like GNT or REP. I can see the value props they're putting forth, and good on y'all for making some quick money, but simply holding ETH itself seems to be a much safer play. If I bought anything I'd want out quickly, as this whole alt-coin surge feels too much like a bubble to me.)

---

The most valuable asset a trader can have is discipline. I'm not much of a trader myself, more of a long-term investor, but the successful traders I know all have one thing in common: rock-solid discipline.

They make their rules before they buy and stick to them regardless of the outcome. They don't let their emotions dictate their decisions. They watch the sheeple buy all the way up during a pump, panic sell during a dump, and then when the waters settle they calmly place their bids and strategically set their stops.

If there's one thing being a crypto investor has taught me, it's the enduring value of complete emotional detachment from decision making. Improving your discipline will pay dividends in all other areas of your life.

---

That's probably enough rambling for today. I'll do my best to continue posting these thoughts as they come, now that I'm starting to feel a bit more knowledgeable about the space and related subjects. And as always, if there are any lurkers/bitcoin n00bs out there who would like some guidance or advice from someone who (mostly) had to learn all this stuff the hard way, feel free to post here or shoot me a PM.

I've noticed stuff like this posted a few times in here. The volume traded on GNT since you posted is close to 45 million USD. The idea that the couple of traders in here have any effect on the price of any altcoin is downright delusional. I'd be surprised if combined we even traded 6 figures worth during the past 4-5 days.

My plan is to sell 75% of GNT around the $0.09 level. (Bought in around $0.05).

I've had an account on Poloniex for years JJG. By the way you seem to be the only one who thinks discussing other cryptocurrency is off-topic. I think its more fair to the rest of the forum who isn't interested to keep it all in the one thread.

Triggered.

You shouldn't be so stringent, times are changing fast. Did you not start to invest in BTC to make money? Why are you hating on other ways to profit in this sphere when its not 100% BTC? Do you have some sort of sentimental attachment to BTC? Popped your crypto cherry, so to speak? The argument that talking about other things is complete bullshit. Can you not employ selective reading: read what you find useful ignore the other stuff. Everyone else does that, why can't you?

It's clear you are overwhelmingly outnumbered. People are ok with discussions about other coins, which I'd argue are related to BTC, but you wouldn't agree. Employ some selective reading, choose what you want to focus on and ignore what's not important to your personal strategies.

I'm just kidding relax. But seriously how do you know how much asperger-Rawmeo computer coins RVF members have? You don't. There's a lot of lurkers and a lot of people are not speaking up.

To appease JJG I'll talk about something I'd consider related to BTC, maybe not in the way he would like but related nonetheless.

I've been looking at the ETH/BTC charts and thinking about what's been happening the last few weeks on Thursday night/Friday. Huge pump seemingly out of nowhere catching everyone off guard that just goes off the wall and subsidies sometime around Monday morning. To break it down more concisely using some technical analysis:

There is an upward-angled Pennant with cyclical downward sell-side pressure around the .050 price. Zooming out of the chart at the 4H view it's a clear Bull Flag, with textbook Bear Trap trailings, implying a bullish trend with an underlying bearish support structure. This is coupled with the facade Sell Wall around .0525 that is fictitiously swamping any upside momentum. Further, analyzing the Fibonacci levels at 67% and incorporating rolling Bollinger Bands there appears to be a re-tracement back to the all-time high.

Truth be told, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it sounds legit. See you guys on the other side! Also, if this plays out how I think, I'd estimate a 20% dump of GNT over the weekend, which would be a good time to get in.
Skank_Hunt · 2017-03-31 01:52:00 · #3796
Lol, I mention DOGE and consider investing and the next day it shoots up 50%. FML. Seriously though, it's gambling. You might think you're a smartass if you did the trade and got it right, I'd say maybe 20% smarts and 80% luck. Like for most of the time, nearly all of the time, LTC just bounces between 3-4 bucks then all of a sudden up to nearly 8 bucks. Who could have predicted that apart from the whales who coordinated it.

I've been interested in BTC/Cryptos for a while now, specifically BTC as a long term investment. In my opinion, the best way to trade these speculative assets is to see them as just that, not far off from gambling. If a big % increase is seen as possible in your mind, allocate a % of your funds depending on your risk appetite and, as they say, "HODL". Trying to trade these things involves watching the markets every day, and can be very stressful. This applies to assets like stocks, options, futures as well to varying degrees. As I have experienced it, the cost of buying an asset is not just the dollar price. It is the time spent checking prices, the time spent researching, the time spent worrying, the emotional burden and impact on your mood even if your asset is going higher. There is a certain point you may want to or need to cash out, and that's fine, but this daily monitoring can become like a second job.

I will give it to them, there are a few neckbeards and semi-aspergers and even vaguely normal dudes making big money from crypto trading, whether they be algorithmic geniuses, early adopters, extremely lucky, or any mixture. Most guys lose the trading game. And even if you win in dollar terms, you can become a loser, literally. You neglect the gym, you neglect game, you neglect your job which in many cases can get you more money than sitting indoors all day on your laptop, you neglect even basic going outside and talking to people, let alone pretty girls. Your lifestyle suffers massively. A sociable, good looking bartender vs kickass Crypto trader with particular experience in Ethereum, Dogecoin and Ripple - who is likely on average to have the greater quality of life?

The #1 thing I don't like about BTC right now is that it might split and I might have to do something technical and weird to get my split coins if I invest. I want confirmation that I can just buy BTC and that will be that. Put a certain amount aside for BTC, leave it for 2-3 years, come back to see if anything came of it. In the meantime working out, going out, traveling, meeting pretty feminine women. I myself have posted a few speculative charts as TA has been a hobby of mine but it isn't what I do for a living. I don't have anywhere near that kind of capital. But JJG I would ask you to consider your investment in BTC not just in terms of dollars, but also in terms of all the other things that could be done with the time and emotional energy invested in something that ultimately none of us know enough about to call investment anything other than highly speculative.

I will keep an eye on whether BTC splits, but other than that I'm going to be dedicating more time to concrete labor to build myself up, going out, working out etc. I took annual leave and it only led to atrophy and descending into the realms of mental masturbation about what is Ether and what is Dark Energy and what the hell is a Dogecoin. These interests are some of the strongest poosy repellents known to man. For that reason I will generally restrict my posts about the BTC/BTU split, whether it happens or does not happen, since that is the only event of concern to me investment wise. And no, I wasn't in the "Troll Box" of Poloniex. It's not exactly that far fetched that a "Troll Box" should contain another user by the name "Skank Hunt", given the popularity of the show.

Thanks for your many good points in your earlier post Isaac.

Regarding your point about the bitcoin thread being changed to crypto thread.. sounds a bit ridiculous to me, but sure we can disagree about these kinds of things.

Nonetheless, the last time I checked, we are still in the bitcoin thread.

Do you guys really believe that I should just give up on this topic - In other words, I should stop attempting to preserve the name bitcoin in this stupid-ass bitcoin thread?

The conclusion that some RVF guys want to reach is that RVF guys, except for me and a couple others, don't care about keeping out alt discussions?

I feel that I am being repetitive, but maybe you should care?

Historically, we have not really excluded alt coin discussions in this thread, so long as the alt coin discussions are either related to BTC or not like a compete divergence into the alt coin (like a pump or dump kind of tangent).

So historically, even in this bitcoin thread, there has been a tolerance of something like 5-10% divergence into alt coin discussions (and/or other non bitcoin discussions - besides the personal attacks - which I am attempting NOT to count. hahahahaha)

If we are changing thread titles, who is going to petition the name change? Is Pants going to change it or an RVF admin?

Maybe I am ranting for nothing, but it seems a pity that several RVF guys are not able to recognize and/or appreciate why this thread has "bitcoin" in its name and the historical focus of this thread has been about bitcoin and the name does not say "crypto currencies" and the name does not say "bitcoin and various alts" nor "bitcoin and ....__blah blah blah____.."

Bitcoin is in the name of this thread, and such a conclusion is not about "JJG not keeping up with the times." It is called thread theme and/or thread focus.

In RVF there has been ways to have threads that attempt to maintain various focuses and/or themes, and a pretty decent practice that attempts to minimize trolling and thread hijacking.

And, the historical focus and theme of this thread happens to be all things bitcoin, and that is a BIG FUCKING FOCUS, no?

As Isaac's post suggests, Bitcoin is no small topic and it touches upon a lot of topics including but not limited to politics, economics, social systems, and computer geeky things.

Why are RVF guys struggling to stick to the largely bitcoin topic? but they want to talk about some other alt or get caught up in some tangential topic?

Why can't RVF guys post about the amazing money that they made and the amazing fundamentals of that other alt in another thread called "alt coins thread"? they could even link to the substance of their pump or their "informative" post in this particular bitcoin thread, no?

For some reason, several of you guys don't want to create another thread or participate in another thread with another name, such as "alt coin thread"?

You like this bitcoin thread, with the name "bitcoin" in it, but you want to argue that the thread and the topic has evolved? Why not evolve into another thread rather than wanting to rename this thread?

Why can't I see the issue that some RVF guys seem to be having of just keeping this thread as "bitcoin" and "bitcoin focused" and making some other thread that has some other name or focus?

Is it possible to just name a new thread or new topic or just taking over the alt coin thread for the purposes that you want... ?

You say: "But 'we' want this bitcoin thread because bitcoin has evolved". Ultimately, that is bullshit, and most guys should be able to recognize and appreciate that it is almost completely unnecessary to rebrand this particular bitcoin thread as "all cryptos" or some other variation on the previous name.

Let's say the new purpose is of this thread were to talk about alt coins with only 65% discussions of bitcoin (because in those circumstances bitcoin would be a topic but not the exclusive topic of the thread)...

Then I would ask, why purposefully aim to pervert this "bitcoin" thread with various kinds of non-topical stuff, whether that is going to be 50% watered down or 35% watered down or 15% watered down or some other quantity of the incorporation of non-bitcoin info?

Again, I reiterate that historically 5-10% topic divergence in this thread is already decently tolerated, so why do we need to try to achieve more divergence than that?

If guys are interested in other topics, but they still want to mostly talk about bitcoin then why can't these guys still accomplish those kinds of discussions in this thread with a 5-10% tolerance or in another thread that could be tailored to whatever level of tolerance that you would like to create?

Why does such proposed additional divergence in topic need to take place in this particular thread - the more than 90% bitcoin thread?

But you say: " 'we' want the more than 90% bitcoin thread to become the more than 85% bitcoin thread because up to 10% is not enough."

Several RVF guys seem to think that this bitcoin thread should conform to new topics rather than creating a new thread because times have changed in the crypto world? And bitcoin has become less important, therefore, we should treat bitcoin as less important in this particular thread.

Maybe some guys would like this thread to treat bitcoin at whatever happens to be its current coinmarketcap market share? recently such bitcoin coinmarket cap share had gone down to around 67%).

But I still don't get why more alt coin discussions is warranted or needs to come to this thread, even if bitcoin's market share were only 20%.. why does that matter in terms of this thread?

Even if guys want to talk more about alts, why does that market share of bitcoin matter to the "BITCOIN" thread? RVF guys can take their discussion of 80% of what is going on in cryptolandia (what is happening in alts) to another thread, no? Why does it need to be in the bitcoin thread?

We have plenty of news and happenings in bitcoin to talk about here, no?

It seems to me that there is still a whole hell-of-a-lot going on in bitcoin, whether that is recognized by RVF guys or not, whether mainstream media appreciates bitcoin or not, and bitcoin by itself remains a very GRAND topic, no?

Let's get some of our facts straight here... Do we understand that mainstream media loves to figure out ways to dilute the importance of bitcoin?, and we believe that RVF should do those kinds of dilutions to this bitcoin thread, too?

Bitcoin's total market cap on a daily weighted average is still floating in its top 50 highest daily averages - EVER!!!!!.... and most of those 50 all time high days are in 2017.. and largely in March.. Just yesterday closed out at top 30 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=...sg18421605) and today is likely to close out in a little bit better territory.

It seems that bitcoin is in good times, and bitcoin is not dying, and bitcoin is not near dead as a topic of discussion either, even though several guys seem to be o.k. to attempt to derail the thread and to get distracted by new and shiny pumps and to assert that there may be some bitcoin 2.0s out there.

Who gives a ratt's ass if there may be some bitcoin 2.0s out there, this is still the bitcoin thread, no?

or would we not know that this is the bitcoin thread from the bullshit posts of RVF guys trying to suggest that bitcoin is not very important anymore - which also seems to be what mainstream media would like us to believe, as well.

So what if other cryptos are becoming more important in the whole scheme of things and so what if other cryptos take over bitcoin in terms of market share, why can't those discussion go into a new thread..? a "better than bitcoin" thread?

Why does the bitcoin thread need to be trolled with a new title? Let's allow the troll to describe the dilution of bitcoin for us by creating a new title. Let's call it "the bitcoin used to be better" thread.

Even if some of the other coins were to take over bitcoin, they don't got what bitcoin's got. Tell me what they got that bitcoin doesn't got? They got some current pumping going on, yes. But what else do they got? And, why do we need to hear about it in this thread, unless the post can connect the subject matter to bitcoin?

So before we go and write off bitcoin as being dead or near dead or less important than the other coins, let's consider the matter in a bit of a broader historical context, and accordingly, it seems quite premature to be seriously contemplating name changes to this thread at this time.

For you people who believe bitcoin is less, then what is wrong with starting over with a new thread and a new topic?

Why do guys who are interested in evolving this topic to other cryptos need the history of this particular bitcoin thread?

This thread has been mostly just me posting a bunch of bitcoin bullshit anyhow, no? Who cares about this thread.. start a new one. right?

If this thread is dying because of its bitcoin focus and theme or happens to be dying because it is about bitcoin and bitcoin is dying, then why not just leave the thread to fair as it will? Why does it need to be revived or modernized with some dilution of focus?

Survival of the fittest, right? and if bitcoin dies , then this thread dies too, right?

But if bitcoin does not die, then we have a place to talk about bitcoin and bitcoin related topics, and topics that are largely related to bitcoin, no? What is wrong with that?

It seems that I still don't get it.

Why do guys need this thread or its history in order to accomplish a mission to discuss alts or to create a new variation on bitcoin and bitcoin related topics that gives more emphasis to alts? why?

Yeah, some had said, including SunW, that this thread has a bigger audience than other threads, but so fucking what?

SunW also suggested that guys should just ignore the off topic posts, and I don't really have a problem with that, so long as the off-topic posts are on an incidental scale, rather than a purposeful attempt to change the theme and focus of this thread.

If there really is an interest of RVF guys in the discussion of alts and giving less priority to bitcoin, then the RVF guys audience can be built around that new and improved thread, no? and RVF guys will migrate to that new and improved bitcoin thread with greater alt discussion, no? Interest will gravitate to the new and improved thread, right?

You say: "But 'we' want to use this Bitcoin thread for that new purpose."

And, even if a new mostly bitcoin and some alts thread were to be created, there would not be anything wrong with putting a link in this thread about some silly ass altcoin pump that is taking place in that other new thread, no?

If RVF guys want to give less weight to bitcoin, then why change the topic here?

It seems that I still don't get it.

What am I missing? If everyone wants to talk about something else, what the fuck you doing in the bitcoin thread?

Maybe you are saying: "I wished that the bitcoin thread was not just about bitcoin and it was about other stuff, too."

O.k..

Create a thread. Call it. "All cryptos thread."

Call it whatever you like. Call it: "bitcoin and other stuff thread"

or call it "the upgraded bitcoin thread"

or call it "65% bitcoin and 35% other stuff"

or call it "35% bitcoin and 65% other stuff"

or call it "bitcoin thread without JJG" .. (no I'm just kidding on this last suggestion because I would probable still attempt to go into the "bitcoin and other stuff thread")

Historically, there has been nothing wrong in this thread with guys making comparisons and contrasts of other cryptos, as long as their posts have had something to do with bitcoin rather than a nearly pure tangent into some other coin.

I know, I know.. a bit too much of a repetitive rant... but I guess I am still having trouble understanding why there is some kind of need for several RVF guys to want to purposefully dilute this particular bitcoin thread beyond the incidental (5-10%) discussion of alt coins that has already been acceptable in this thread?

Again, you are trying to suggest that I am being stringent. My point is about having a thread focus, not about any kind of rigor and stubborness.

Yes, times are changing, but that does not necessarily mean that we need to become unfocused in this particular thread.

Guys invest in BTC for a variety of reasons, and this is not the how to make the most money thread. That is a different topic, even though it may overlap with bitcoin goals of myself and others.

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  Why are you hating on other ways to profit in this sphere when its not 100% BTC?

I am not hating on anyone making money. I am only suggesting some attempt at discipline in sticking to the theme of the thread or making another thread or going toi another thread.

Like I posted in my previous post, I think that historically there has been quite a bit of tolerance of 90-95% deviance from bitcoin in this thread, but if you are suggesting that we need more deviation, then sounds like you want to change the topic of the thread or to hijack the thread.

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  Do you have some sort of sentimental attachment to BTC?

I prefer bitcoin as a topic, but what does this have to do about me? This has to do with sticking to a theme or focus of a thread. Do you understand that?

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  Popped your crypto cherry, so to speak?

I have some other altcoin investments, but and I am interested in some alt coin subject matters, but that does not really matter. There still does not seem to be a need to change the topic of the thread beyond the historical acceptance of some topic deviations.

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  The argument that talking about other things is complete bullshit. Can you not employ selective reading: read what you find useful ignore the other stuff. Everyone else does that, why can't you?

Of course I can selectively read and ignore some off topic discussions, but that still does not justify why this particular thread topic should be changed or that the alt coin topic(s) that you want to discuss might not be better suited for another thread, unless it happens to be incidental comments, then no one is really going to care if you are off topic in making incidental comments.

But if you are purposefully engaged in a pattern to change the topic, then maybe you need another thread, no?

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  It's clear you are overwhelmingly outnumbered.

Has the topic of the thread changed? Not yet.

If the topic of the thread changes, then maybe I will be wiling to reconsider my current perspective about whether or not to post and how I chose to partipate in this particular thread... maybe.

(03-30-2017 10:20 PM)Armogan Wrote:  People are ok with discussions about other coins, which I'd argue are related to BTC, but you wouldn't agree.

I agree that some posts about alts are more related to BTC than other posts about alts.

Yes, I can chose to do these things.. .. it's within my discretion about how to approach the matter..

Yes, each of us make various kinds of time balancing decisions.

Even if you were to read all of my posts, you likely do not have enough information to conclude what might be better for me and regarding my choices regarding various ways that I spend my time and my energies.

I don't think anyone disagrees with the assertion that Bitcoin is (currently) by far the most important cryptocurrency, whether you're looking at it from a historical perspective, or technological, or financial, etc.

But Bitcoin has spurred the creation of an entirely new industry ("FinTech"), in which many systems (like Ethereum) will undoubtedly play an important role, and the decisions made regarding one blockchain often have consequences for other cryptos. You simply can't discuss Bitcoin any more without including in the conversation the larger context of the cryptocurrency space as whole. You miss a lot otherwise.

And sure, for the purposes of this thread in particular I would think that any alt-coin discussions should in some way include the impact on Bitcoin's price/development/industry role/etc. Any conversations focusing SPECIFICALLY on an alt-coin without ANY bearing on Bitcoin should of course go in the Alternatives to Bitcoin thread (or perhaps a thread of their own).

But saying that we shouldn't discuss other cryptos in the Bitcoin thread is like saying we shouldn't talk about Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in the Donald Trump thread. Yeah, it's technically titled the DONALD TRUMP thread, but the other players are obviously relevant in various contexts within the political sphere. Same goes for Bitcoin and other cryptos.

In other news, Erik Voorhees, serial Bitcoin entrepreneur and owner of crypto asset exchange ShapeShift, came out with a new post today encouraging the Bitcoin community to come together and adopt a new compromise/proposal called "SegWit2MB":

Quote:On March 31, Sergio Lerner and the RootStock team proposed “SegWit2MB” to the Bitcoin Core mailing list.

The basics of the proposal…

95% miner support required for consensus

Upon consensus:

SegWit is immediately activated
2MB hardfork countdown begins (to occur Dec 14, 2017)

SegWit is Bitcoin Core’s version (soft fork). The 2MB hardfork aspect is BIP 102, as coded by Jeff Garzik.

Stated plainly, SegWit2MB is a combination of SegWit and a hard fork to a 2MB base block size cap. The two are tied together such that 95% miner support triggers both.

What’s the purpose? In Lerner’s words, “Segwit2Mb is the project to merge into Bitcoin a minimal patch that aims to untangle the current conflict between different political positions regarding segwit activation vs. an increase of the on-chain blockchain space through a standard block size increase. It is not a new solution, but it should be seen more as a least common denominator.”

And I’d like to make the case that it should be considered…

I agree with him in that the proposal makes for an excellent compromise between the two camps, and I encourage folks to head over and read the full post in detail.
