Back to the classics since it's all been done.

I can only point out one great action movie in recent years and that is Dredd (2012). Mad Max was also fun, despite the feminist themes.

I thought The Accountant was good and didn't strive much into SJW territory. Decent script with a twist at the end that I saw coming, nevertheless it was good.

The Magnificent Seven was good action with little in the way of SJWism as well. Great actions sequences with hardly any special effects. It felt like a good action movie out of the 90s. It looks like the ROK article that ran awhile back (the one bashing Star Wars) was a sign of things to come. These SJWs get emboldened by small victories, so it's no surprise that they are upping the ante on this one.

I expect Chewbacca to do a poetry reading of Adrienne Rich for the final scene.

Apparently the #DumpStarwars thing is from a comment made by one of the writers of the film who compared Trump to Hitler or something along those lines. I haven't seen the comment so I don't know if that's true - but it's good to see people revolt against SJWars after that ABOMINATION that was the Feminist Awakens.

I legitimately felt ill after seeing what they did to a series I loved so much as a child.

It would be cool to get someone like Corey Martell on the case: he did the long marketing analysis of the GhostSlumpbusters film by taking a quick run over Facebook Audience Insights and concluding that the makers of the film had intentionally alienated roughly half their customer base. One might be able to do something similar with that tool by searching up Star Wars fans and then working out who was a Trump fan or Republican voter versus who voted for Clinton. You could then have a good shot at predicting how much money Disney lost on that comment being made.

For those who haven't seen "The Magnificent Seven" -- SPOILER ALERT:

I, too, liked the movie and agree Chris Pratt was great. I was, however, a little miffed the only characters from the "M7" crew to survive the film were minority characters: a black guy, an Indian and a Mexican...Kinda sounds like the start of a bad joke, doesn't it? That choice felt a little SJW-inspired to me.

Understand I don't have a problem with minority characters surviving, but considering the fact three of the M7 crew were white male characters, they couldn't have let at least one live? At least they all went out in blazes of glory.

The elites are starting to get scared of our power to influence the official counter narrative and redirect male consumer spending.
Jack Posobiec's tweet and Trump supporters boycotting star wars just made mainstream news on BBC news in the UK.
Pizzagate is also mentioned.
Remember Disney paid George Lucas 4 BILLION for star wars.
Disney is literally shitting their pants if we bankrupt their most lucrative franchise.

Quote:Trump fans urge Star Wars boycott over reshoot claims

Supporters of Donald Trump are urging a boycott of the Star Wars film, Rogue One, due for US release next week. The campaign began with a series of tweets from activist Jack Posobiec, who claimed the writers changed the film to add scenes linking Mr Trump to racism. Screenwriter Chris Weitz said that this was "completely fake", though he and another writer have tweeted their opposition to the US president-elect. #DumpStarWars has been retweeted 120,000 times in the past 24 hours.

In a Periscope video, Jack Posobiec, who is an activist with Citizens for Trump, claimed the writers had said the Empire in the film "is a white supremacist organisation like the Trump administration and the diverse rebels are going to defeat them". "They're trying to make the point of using this movie to push the false narrative... that Trump is a racist." he said. The basis of the claims appears to be tweets sent by Mr Weitz and fellow screenwriter Gary Whitta. Following Mr Trump's election win in November, Mr Weitz posted: "Please note that the Empire is a white supremacist (human) organisation."

Mr Whitta responded: "Opposed by a multi-cultural group led by brave women." Both tweets were deleted within the day and Chris Weitz later apologised for politicising the film. In the wake of the election, both writers also changed their Twitter avatars to the symbol of the Rebel Alliance, with a safety pin - a symbol which has been adopted in support of minorities. And Gary Whitta had previously apparently referred to Trump as a "Nazi": The #DumpStarWars hashtag quickly harnessed plenty of support: But was also widely mocked: The film premieres next week in the US.

The pro-Trump Twitter army

Donald Trump has 17 million followers on Twitter. Among them are a group of vocal supporters who frequently champion him and are quick to denigrate those who oppose or criticise him. #DumpStarWars is only the latest in a series of online campaigns they have launched. In the last few weeks, there have also been calls to boycott the cereal company Kelloggs, Starbucks and the musical Hamilton. A handful of accounts are frequently retweeted in the thousands. They tend belong to people who work in the media, managing websites or producing other media supporting Trump. The most high-profile is Briton Paul Joseph Watson, an editor at Infowars, a website that has published outlandish conspiracy theories including one claiming Hillary Clinton has a secret "satanic network".

The tone of their tweets is frequently combative and polemical. They are quick to bait "liberals" or "social justice warriors" but not averse to a bit of martyrdom either, frequently decrying the MSM - mainstream media - as liars that victimise Mr Trump. One conspiracy theory popular among them, #pizzagate, led a man to fire a rifle in a restaurant linked to it this week

I'd also add Oblivion with Tom Cruise as a good movie. It has a lot of corny moments ("it's scifi but you can bring your girlfriend" sort of thing), but still an original and interesting plot, spectacular scenery and effects, great soundtrack, and absolutely no SJW themes (quite the opposite in fact).

Well they decided to make a movie about getting the Death Star plans so this is like the 4th Star Wars movie about the same goddamn superweapon.

Not only that there's no Bothans in the movie. A movie about the Death Star plans, I've seen all the trailers, but have YET to see a single Bothan in any of the trailers. No respect for the goddamn source material. This is just another cash grab by Disney. Fuck em.

The Bothans were only mentioned, and therefore only presumably involved, in respect of the second Death Star, not the first. This movie is likely to reference the "battle" the prologue of A New Hope refers to in which the plans for the Death Star were stolen and then transmitted to Leia aboard her blockade runner.

As much as I don't plan to pay for Rogue One, I fully expect it to make plenty of money for Disney.
If it does even 1/2 as well as The Forced Reboot; that's still $1 billion dollars in cinema earnings.

In addition to which, it was easy to mock GhostBusters '16 due to the fact that it was clearly a dud movie.
"Worst trailer evah...!" etc.
The soundtrack didn't help, plus that it was in fact a pathetic movie.
Also, there was about 6 months of online trolling & mockery to help hinder GB16's profits.

Justified or otherwise '#DumpStarWars' only has ~two weeks to affect the bottom line.
Plus, many are excited by Rogue One, as much for it being Star Wars as well as the trailers showcasing what at face value is an exciting movie for the sci-fi crowd.

The politically correct bullshit is just that, yet it's a fair bet Rogue One is a properly made film, rather than that joke that is GB16.

The original trilogy, taken as one complete story, is one of the best modern examples of the Hero's Journey. The Hero's Journey resonates very strongly with most people, and has probably as long as humans have been telling stories. Hell, neanderthals probably had their own Hero's Journey tales. So it's no surprise Star Wars is extremely popular.

The movies made since the original trilogy are garbage in comparison, though the prequel trilogy and these Disney atrocities suck for different reasons.

One of the things the original trilogy absolutely nailed was the characters. Classic appealing plot + excellent characters = success. Harry Potter was successful for the same reasons as Star Wars.

It really has nothing to do with nerds.

I watched that comparison and maybe I'm an idiot but I'm just failing to see any similarity.

As is almost always the case when someone claims story A ripped off story B, what you're seeing is people noticing that two stories are similar in the broad strokes, concluding that the later story ripped off the earlier one, then using confirmation bias to build their case. At most, The Hidden Fortress was a minor influence on Lucas's vision for Star Wars.

If I wanted to play that game, I could easily make a case that Harry Potter ripped off Star Wars, because they use some similar basic plot points and there are some other coincidences to point to. These nerds put together some similarities. But did JK Rowling rip off George Lucas? Of course not, not in any meaningful way. A skeleton of a plot and some imagery is substantially less than 1% of the final product, as anyone who's written many stories knows*.

If you gave 100 writers a sheet of paper each with the same basic plot and a few bare bones character sketches and told them to go write novels starting from there, you would get 100 distinctly different novels. What matters is the execution of the idea.

Sometimes stories do truly get ripped off, but it's pretty rare. Explicit remakes don't count, obviously, and I don't really count foreign re-skin remakes as ripoffs either. Often, they're more like retellings. Sure, A Fistful of Dollars is basically Yojimbo, superficially**. Well, so what? A Fistful of Dollars makes a lot more sense to a western audience than a Japanese film with subtitles or a shitty dub that relies on a cultural background we don't even have. What percent of non-weeaboo westerners know what a ronin is, do you think? How many would've known in 1964? Changing the cultural context alone changed the story substantially, and there are plenty of other differences of detail.

There are only a handful of basic plots out there, and only so many scenarios humans can identify with. How many stories have been written? I don't know for sure, but I can put the minimum at "somewhere over 100,000,000 since Homer". Any writer trying to create a truly original story will go insane with frustration and quit--that's the major reason why I didn't write fiction for over 10 years starting in my late teens, until I got over it--or else spiral off into batshit crazy abstraction and totally lose the audience. And that abstraction will still have already been done by some other writer seeking originality.

*That's why writers tell people to fuck off when they say "Oh, I have this great idea for a novel! I'll let you write the novel [120-150 hours of work] and we can share the profits 50-50!" Yeah, sure dude. Rolleyes

**Technically I suppose Fistful could count as a derivative work of Yojimbo, and that's why Leone handed over a chunk of the proceeds to Kurosawa's company in an out-of-court settlement.

--------

I guess I should say something about this film if I haven't already. Visually, it looks pretty good. Otherwise, it's like an SJW bukkake fest. Fuck that. I'm not giving them a dime, especially after their terrible job with The Mary Sue Awakens.

RE: Star Wars: Rogue One comes out December
Bob Iger, Disney CEO, in damage control mode.

Quote:In early November, Rogue One writer Chris Weitz tweeted comments against President-elect Donald Trump, at one point alluding to possible political parallels to the Star Wars universe, writing, "Please note that the Empire is a white supremacist (human) organization."

Weitz has since deleted the tweet and has apologized. But last week a hashtag was created, #DumpStarWars, that suggested a boycott of the movie, with some calling the feature "anti-Donald Trump" and "feminist propaganda."

"I think the whole story has been overblown and, quite frankly, it's silly," Disney CEO Bob Iger told THR on the red carpet of the world premiere of Rogue One on Saturday.

Continued Iger: "I have no reaction to [this] story at all. Frankly, this is a film that the world should enjoy. It is not a film that is, in any way, a political film. There are no political statements in it, at all."

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vi...nts-955047

It might be time for the American elites, and Hollywood in particular, to wake up and realize they are dependent upon the middle America that they hate so much for their money.

The statements by Iger come way too late, after the writers already politicized the movie. It is impossible not to be influenced by the interpretation the very writers of the movie have urged upon the public.

Consumers have major power. Many of them are tired of providing money to be lectured on how bad it is to be a white, heterosexual Republican.

I suspect this will cost this new Star Wars movie dearly. It might even keep it under a billion in box office take.
