I'm likely going to get roped into seeing this since my eldest boy is into Star Wars and he's not quite old enough to understand "boycotting products with sensitivities to cultural Marxism".

No toys. No DVDs. No games. That's where they make the real money anyway, and I'm not cruel enough to make him that one kid in the class that has no fucking idea what the rest of his friends are talking about.

I can also use it as an explainer for the kind of bullshit they try to trick young men with (female battle capability for example). When Disney gives you lemons...

I'm getting the impression it's not quite the SJW / feminist vehicle that that type of crowd would want it to be.

Saw it yesterday and I have to say that I was surprised. Star wars movies are generally campy affairs but this was more Saving Private Ryan than The Phantom Menance. There's not much story and character development, but viewed as a holiday action movie it fits the bill nicely.

Daisy Riddley in Feminist Awakens was so fucking obnoxious, she wouldn't hold Finn's hand, she never faced any hardship, she beat everyone up, she was an expert marksman, an expert combat specialist, an expert mechanic, an expert force user, literally THE EMBODIMENT of a "you go gurrl" mary sue.

I haven't seen this new film yet, but I'm not sure how it's going to be any different. Same mega conglomerate behind it, same SJW filth writing it and yet another female lead.

I watched the movie today. And I was surprised at the quality compared to the Feminist Awakens. The main fault of the movie though is still the non-believable female main character.

And a bit of a ripoff of the "Dark Forces'' plot featuring Kyle Katarn. Although the ending is surprising.

The ending is pretty cool. During the film, a lot of pieces in your mental jigsaw will begin to fall in to place that relate to the other films. Although to start with, most of the characters have no sort of relation to the other films.

If you are a big star wars fan, it is a must watch. Yes it is annoying how when they have a female lead she always seems to have a load of 'you-go girl' moments, but there are only a few in this film, nowhere near like the force awakens.

Some of the reviews on this thread have me intrigued, but not enough to buy. I will still wait to torrent it.

Speaking of which, I'm downloading this classic now. If you haven't seen you really should. In the last several years I've become more of Star Trek than Star Wars fan. Capt Kirk traveled all around the universe, fearlessly exploring and banging beautiful women from strange worlds.

Not to mention all the deeper questions the story-lines always provoked along with the humorous inter-play of the men who are in it together.

TLDR - They reshot a massive amount of scenes, in which they toned down the female hero dramatically.

I hypothesize that following the Ghostbusters fail, Trump sweeping (half) the nation, and the thousands of Star Wars fan reviews on IMDB trashing Ep. 7 to dust with little to no compromise, somebody finally woke up.

Enjoyed it a lot more than TFA, it seemed few you go girl moments than expected, was just an unbelievable beat up scene (but it's a wash since the droid does an absolute slamdown on her) and the "rile up the troops" speeches. The movie was mostly a male cast, Disney wants to make Star Wars big in China and they saw how the Chinese reacted to TFA's SJW agenda of "muh diversity", and instead put two bad ass Chinese characters.

Much better action scenes then the TFA too.

The advertisement machine for this star wars has been ridiculous, Gavin does a good short about it.

Sometimes, Star Wars stories that don't involve a Skywalker or Solo are pretty good like Dark Forces or The Force Unleashed.

The Empire is really a human supremacist organization in the Disney canon and in Legends. It seems the First Order is still human supremacist in the Disney canon. I remember reading in the Legends canon, the Empire's collapse and reorganization into different organizations, it eventually became alien and woman friendly.

Exactly. The left is about as subtle as a sledgehammer. It's not enough to hint at something -- they have to bash you over the head with it. Personally, I think they've bitten off more than they can chew which is why we're seeing the rejection of political correctness and identity politics. Absent those two things, the left doesn't have any real legs to stand on.

I may get flak for this but you might want to consider seeing this movie.

To me, it seems like the reshoots and cuts that were ordered (after the Ghostbusters backlash started but pre-release) were done to specifically tone down the SJW crap. A lot of feminist moments from the trailers scenes aren't in the final cut, including the famous "I rebel!" line.

If Disney changed the movie to remove the bulk of the liberal nonsense, maybe they should be supported. I know the writer, director and some of the actors are all hardcore SJWs but the execs at Disney might finally be catching on...maybe.

I think it was worth watching the whole film for just the last 5-10 minutes. The way it directly leads in to episode 4 is really cool, and it makes you realise how big the human effort was to get hold of the plans. And unlike a lot of films, the good guys don't always survive and win.

I agree with the others here who've seen it, it's actually quite good. Didn't sense any particular leftist/SJW bias despite the intentions of some of the writers - the female lead isn't shown to unrealistically outshine the male characters to prove some point as in Ep VII. Sure the bad guys are white males but the (spoiler alert) actual hero of the movie is as well. The robot character was amusing, and the scenes with a certain villain were great.
