It seems like the rebels are winning in Ankara but losing in Istanbul from what I have seen. This probably explains why Erdogan landed in Istanbul.

Agreed, but isn't Ankara the main government center? Istanbul probably is the bigger cultural center, but Ankara center for government?

72 and sunny my point was more that I don't think anything about the movement of anyone important in the area is real information. Unless they're total idiots, there's going to be a lot of decoys and such that make it all almost pointless to follow in real time unless you're in the know.

The coup is pro american, no wait, pro islam. Erdogan is safe somewhere else, erdogan landed. Smokescreens, all of them.

I don't think so. Some of these things are happening at lightning speeds at stressful high pressure situations, there's simply not enough time for almost any smarts, let alone extensive deliberations.

Think about recent examples, they found Saddam in the hole, and Gaddafi hiding in the ditch. No decoys for them puppies.

This sounds like islamist vs islamist in fighting to me with no clear foreign support.

From what i've read Gulens seem to be "moderate" muslims with a leftist bent. Not good by any means.

It makes zero sense for this to be an America intelligence led coup. It sounds like Turks are blaming America again as the default.

Erdogan largely plays ball with U.S. neocons behind the scenes.
