This brings back a memory. The original Ghostbusters came out in the summer in what might have been the busiest season in the history of my hometown. Since there were so many people in town and only a single digit number of total movie screens on the boardwalk, I had to try three different nights to get into Ghostbusters before it sold out. On the third try, I got in and it was like the accomplishment of the year. Just getting in. I think I was with a member of my immediate family and a neighbor kid (not the famous guy), who was annoying the hell out of us. I'm pretty sure nobody will be fighting to get into or trying many times to get into this ridiculous remake with the sloppy looking women.

I've seen ECTO-1 replicas made by amateurs on regular station wagon platforms that look infinitely better than this sorry excuse. You'd think a movie studio with an unlimited budget would bring forth something exponentially better than this. This looks like something two 15 year-old kids in a freshman vo-tech body shop class would cobble together. Even then, I'd give them a 'C' for a half-assed effort.

The new trailer is lit like a drama. Dark & moody with right colors. Superhero movie lighting.

Compare to the original - high key white comedy lighting.

Drama lighting is the kiss of death for a comedy. It's why they bomb. It's subtle, so most people won't notice it, but it sucks the laughs out. Your brain goes "this looks serious" on some level.

Great example of this - Jim Carry's The Cable Guy (1996). Legitimately funny movie. But it bombed at the box office. Why? Dark moodly lightning. You don't notice it - but your brain does.

Don't get me wrong - I like that visual style - but it doesn't belong in this film.

The new music is the only thing this trailer has going for it. Everything else is off and wrong.

Looking at the original trailer - nothing is trying to be funny. It's selling itself as a comedy - but with ghosts! Wow! The new one is selling itself as a dark action supernatural movie - but with comedy! Wow!

Totally different sell. And the wrong one, because for most Ghostbuster fans, the comedy and characters are the sell, and the supernatural elements are just the setting.

All the media headlines I've seen gush at it's goodness. The Cathedral is out in full effect. This movie is gonna bomb.
