It's really no big deal tbh. I don't know anywhere where premium drinks are less than $6-7 each.
My meals are pricey but I'm eating in the tourist area. Or do you think it's better for me to take a 45 min cab ride out of the fort to save $10 which is basically 3-4 miles
I really don't get it.
Why is that so Mindboggling. 90 min massage for $40 usd
The Spa is much more upscale than most of the places to get massages for most people, which are about 10-15 dollars cheaper but are more like the Foot Spas here in LA. I think you can actually have people come to your place for cheaper and give you a massage, but the environments of the upscale spots are more akin to US experiences in spas and hotels, etc (and cost double/triple/etc).
I like seeing the costs, personally.

I'm having some lols at the Phils.
Globe is a POS cell service. The 3g just cuts off randomly.
Im basically right next to the globe building. RU kidding me?
I remember getting really mad that my uber wasnt working. I had to go back to my hotelroom for wifi from high-street to call uber. (3 min walk).
So silly but I was getting very frustrated because I was talking to a girl on line and it just goes dark for 2 hrs. fml. (this was at the club).
High class problems. Can't get it in or get to my club fast enough.

Yea, exactly Im not really "balling" out. Im actually playing it kind of low-key (no bottle service), no private car, no driver, no bodyguard.
Thats over the top. Im not spraying champagne everywhere.
Im just eating good and drinking good alcohol. I also don't mind buying a few drinks if it helps grease the wheels.
I bought one of the bouncers a redbull. They didn't even charge me full price (i think I paid 100 pesos). He laughed. The managers see everything.
You guys are focusing way too much on the $ and less on what I am saying. Im saying I am not counting the $. Being free-flowing. If you've been in the Phils, thats how people party. Love in the air. Bouncing around. Say hi to all your friends. Very high energy here.
I blend in, but then I pull out a giant wad of cash by their standards and not mine. I usually roll out w/about 10k pesos which is insane $ for them. And fumble around (genuinely) because I have no idea what the currency looks like.
I've actually taken to converting all my currency to $500 so I have no 1000 billls because it looks to similar in the dark to 100.
The devil is in the details. The gestalt picture is a young dude who has $ and thats enough to be accepted somewhat. I still am runnning into walls because I can't get away w/pulling the girl the same night (if shes high-class) because I am a foreigner. Sucks but thats life here.

I tried Smart in Manila (experiencing the same Globe woes as you), it's worse in my experience. I would stick to Globe.. or at least not expect much if switching.

Both Globe and Smart sucks. The reason for picking one over the other is knowing which service people you most often call or/and text use as these are free.
It's good you're having a good time at least but just keep in mind the holiday millionaire is a pretty well tread stereotype in manila.
Plus girls who pull back might actually be working for the joint and working you.
There's a lot of hired girls and their friends who hang out and pull in foreign customers and get them to spend a lot in the clubs. They will give out their numbers, allow you to get to a certain point, and even take you places but it's just all business as usual.
Forgot to mention there's also "indirect" p4p in some clubs where girls will fuck or establish longer rapport as long as it means you or your crew might keep coming and throwing money around. Foreigners flossing in manila clubs attracts more foreign money and a higher profile. Girls don't exactly dislike this job since they are party girls anyways who got recruited for this special task but they are still on someone's payroll at the end of the day.
Also just beware of big balling locals too. Everyone is related to everyone and knows everyone and can do everything in Southeast Asia. At least they say they can until it's time to actually do it.
If spending all that money is giving you a better experience, then by all means, go for it.
But considering this is your first time there, it seems a bit premature to say you've got it all figured out and are an expert in an alien society within days. Some things are not immediately apparent at first blush. That takes time to decipher. Applying Western standards to Filipino society might leave you chasing the wrong paths.
For instance, I'd take with a grain of salt Filipinos bragging about who they know and what they can do for you. Sometimes they exaggerate greatly to make themselves look more important. Pursue it sure, but don't always bank on it.
I think the point many people who've been and lived there are trying to make is that going all out baller style is unnecessary to have a good time. You can be a broke foreigner and still feel like a king who commands his own harem. I'm often reminded of the saying "We know the price of everything, and the value of nothing." I'm not sure if spending $300/day will really give you a better experience than $50/day. I'm speaking as someone whose spent time in BGC, Boracay, and Palawan, but also walked through poor neighborhoods and lived briefly in the province. I've had a lot of fun in each situation. An abundance mentality is a good thing to have, but so is a sense of value.
My impression is that the upper tier women who are open to foreigners aren't as impressed with money as you may think. You're competing against dollar millionaires with iron grips on the economy and government. The only example I know of where a foreigner's money and power won them over was a US Naval Officer who married a woman from a millionaire power family. He was their family's connection to American politics, but that was back in the Subic days and you won't see much of it anymore.
There may be other reasons for their interest. I've been talking with a former model whose work included being the 'face' for major beauty product campaigns, and was being offered the life of a celebrity by talent scouts even at a young age. She claims (I believe it, but also, what I said about exaggerating Filipinas...) to have turned down advances by a family member of one of the most powerful families in the Philippines, yet she shows a keen interest in me. I could go into more detail to make my point but it might reveal their identity and cause problems. I am comfortable but not rich, not powerful, but I have qualities they don't. There are certain stereotypes about Westerners that make them attractive to Filipinas, in my opinion.
I would venture that the major motivations for dating foreigners for Filipinas that don't need your money are 1) The Westerner's relatively lower concern over a woman's age, and 2) the personality type of Westerners.
As for 1), a lot of the upper class women you're going to get as a foreigner will be ones who are getting on in age, think 24+ years. That's considered old in their society, and they even have a name for them: matandang dalaga. These women have a hard time finding a Filipino man who meets their standards who can forgive their older age. Marrying later is normal in Western societies, so Pinays in this category look where their value is highest.
With 2), if you present yourself as respectful and educated, you may fit into the reputation of foreigners that certain Filipinas look for. This means, compared to a Filipino,
- You are less judgmental
- You are more likely able to be discrete
- You are less jealous
- You are less likely to get angry or violent
- You are more likely to be interested in philosophical and metaphysical subjects
- You are more monogamous (Relatively common for upper class Filipinos to have a mistress or cheat)
Basically, it's the perception that you are more likely to be loyal, and more likely to form an intellectual connection with them. It's your personality, not your pesonality. Most likely it's going to be a combination of 1) and 2). My point is, more money might not translate to better results. If she sees you as a long term prospect, it will matter to her, though.
Again, do what makes you happy. I'm just trying to give you a wider perspective.
^^^ Absolutely.
BTW, re phones/data, as I've said here before, get the 4G LTE on Globe or Smart. The difference from 3G is like night and day.

Has anyone else noticed that in manila, everyone is hustling or trying to make money in the laziest way possible? People with a little bit of money already seem to be sharks. When I wrote "not everything is what it seems" is that everyone is trying to be a shark, which males you should not trust them or mingle wirh them, in my opinion. Phil money doesnt beat American money so why the hassle of dealing with little wolf of wall streets the whole day?

Look guys I might come across as big baller troll, but it really is my lifestyle and $ has nothing to do it.
In terms of wealth and am probably comfortable upper-middle class (100k/year USD+) by US standards which means I can hang in the upper crust tier of Phils society at least monetarily.
For them to socialize w/me its OK. I have zero plans of ever bringing any major $ here and all my business is buy/sell (all transactions through L/C through banks) or connecting people and taking a cut. Its bascially a commish based hustle based on potential revenue.
I hav abs.zero to lose here but have potentially everything to gain. And I am friendly to people and respectful on their women. I don't get sloppy and start macking on random girls. I was sitting at this table w/moneyed Phils and just talking w/the guys when right next to me is a drop dead gorgeous girl (seriously 10). Thats is what I mean by I understand the subtleties here of Asia. I ask the table if they want xxxx...because they were drinking whiskey (fkn hate whiskey) and ordered two shots of the most expensive ones because the girl said sure Ill do one w/you. We cheers the shots and i go back to to talking to the guys. Thats how you need to act. The $ is basically infinite here. Abundance mentality.
Turns out this girl was one of the guys cousins and there is basically zero chance of ONS here anyways and I might end up in a ditch somehwere if I made an awkward pass. She was hitting on me non-stop (in the Asian way) , but I just ignored her. This is the type of high-wire I know is 3rd world Asia. Any other westerner would just ignore the guys and try to talk to the girls. Thats what I mean by you have to know Asian culture to know that the way to girls is always through the guys. Girls are essentially cattle here to be traded, bought and sold. Terrible but true. They can have their own dreams and goals but it is a patriarchial society.
I had some sloppy drunk girl basically attack me and try to kiss me last night. I took her to the bar and got her a water instead and took a shot w/her guy friend. That is the way you need to act.
I am a different person than the typical backpacker- multi-lingual, well dressed, young, family in Asia, potentially big business from my family so there is a different perception and in Asia perception is everything.
I love that you guys are ripping me to shreds and I am picking up a couple details in the process (thoughtgypsy you abs right).
In fact im often sitting in a place where I am likely the poorest one there, but that to me is irrelevant. I want to be in the room where I am the least successful because that is where I will grow.
If you arent striving you aren't growing. If you arent growing, you are dying.
The way to do business here in Asia is to drink heavily.
Its cash over ass here. But ill take the ass if I like it and I don't have the chance to offend anybody. Tinder is basially free (or food/drink/pool swimming) hooker call service here anyways.
Girls are to be traded?! Take a shot with a girl and ignore her the whole night afterwards?! Your making some real generalizing statements right now.
All I can say is yes you may meet a few exceptions, but most of the upper class rarely goes out to the clubs, except for special occasions.
That 10 your talking to is probably on the payroll of the club. Although a cousin explanation COULD work but you never know.
I suggest you wait a bit before coming to any judgements.

At this pace, im probably only going to live till about 60. ;(
Im drinking about 15 drinks a night because everybody keep wanting to do bottoms up everywhere I go.
I need to slow down but no potential $ if I dont drink. You do biz in Asia you have to absolutely drink until they fall under the table or you are dying. Otherwise no bond. Might have to go bang hookers w/them too for male bonding.
I am also only sleeping about 2-5 hours/night for the last 2 weeks, because Im trying to run the candle on both ends. Sightseeing and drinking heavy every night.
My hands are shaking from alcohol withdrawal or something like that. Nothing is free in life, but im willing to take the hits now when my liver can handle it. Thats the main reason I stick to high-end alcohol. At this pace, if I drinking rotgut I am going to age 5 years in 1. High end alcohol only.
Today was the first time I had proper rest because I put the do not disturb sign on my hotel room.

It would be perfectly understandable if you are just looking to show off (it does work sometimes after all), but throwing away JW black and Smirnoff because its "low quality" is just irrational

Agreed, DVY is reaching confirmed big baller status. Come on dude, it's your choice and no big deal to spend the same amount in Manila that is standard in New York, but this kind of boasting about your incredibly sophisticated taste in alcohol is for teens. Come back to us when you've parlayed your ubermensch status into a multi-million dollar property deal or something. That shit is for real in the high end places you're frequenting.

Was just thinking it's kinda cracy that this thread has nearly 500 000 (half a million) views.
Cu all in Manila.
In Cebu near Ayalla Mall and Mango sq the Tune seems to have changed owernship to something called Red Planet Hotel. 41 USD a night. After looking through all the info around this is still the place to stay? No one has chimed in about Cebu for 6 months.
I was thinking about staying a couple weeks in Cebu with a possible jump over to Bohol if I found a girl and want to hit the beach. Seems a shame to spend that much money on hotels. Renting an apartment must be cheaper than 600 USD a hotel in the Phils, right? Paying per night would give me a lot of freedom though.
^ They have a place in all the big cities. Multiple in Manila. Consistently good reviews across the chain. I think most of the others are cheaper than that though.
If you're going to be out partying with the top government officials and businessmen, could you at least convince them to open up the ISP market for Telstra? Internet sucks in Phil and that would really help. I think that's something we could all get on board with.

Though better Internet means that the PI will be more attractive to millions of thirsty guys. The pussy paradies will be destroyed even earlier.

You can get 10% discount if you use the Red Planet Hotels App to book your room. During the week the price usually drops to 30 USD in Cebu City. I really like the Red Planet in Cebu. The location is great (ayala mall is in walking distance, Mango and IT park are a short taxi ride), it is cheap but clean and there is a 7-11 downstairs which can be used as an excuse to pull girls you met in Ayala mall since it is the nearest 7-11 to Ayala mall.

The cheapest Tune Hotel I found so far was in Makassar, Sulawesi. Only 20$ per night for the same quality.
^ I was referring to the Red Planet mentioned at $41.
Not sure what you were trying to explain to me. That Tune and Red Planet are the same chain?
That there are cheaper ones, just like you said. I think most Tune Hotels in Asia are Red Planet Hotels now.

It's difficult not to focus on the money when you spend half of your post talking about it.
There are plenty of other guys who blow through cash who are never accused of trolling.
In case it's still not obvious:
Quote:I feel like I am using monopoly $. They are all different colors and I keep giving people wrong denominations like giving a cashier 2 x 500 for a lighter instead of 20x 2. lol.
Almost every country in Southeast/East Asia has multicolored currency. This is why it's confusing when you make comments like this and then a few posts later you're saying "this is how Asia works".
Quote:I blend in, but then I pull out a giant wad of cash by their standards and not mine. I usually roll out w/about 10k pesos which is insane $ for them. And fumble around (genuinely) because I have no idea what the currency looks like.
Again, you keep talking about all the high end connections you're making, yet you say they're amazed by 10k.
No middle or upper class Filipino thinks 10k is an insane amount of money.
This is why your posts are confusing.
Also, drunkenly fumbling with pocketfuls of cash every time you pay for a drink just makes you look like a sucker, regardless of where in the world you are.
I honestly like your posts most of the time, I just think it's kind of obvious why guys are piling on you.
