The only way to deal with this is to lower expectations of women to the point of seeing them as physically grown children. They really are not that far above children mentally.

The woman who takes time to grieve and reflect without resorting to the quick fixes is among the higher quality women emotionally at least. She could just as easily do the same as the women who take the easy way out, but she chooses not to. At least your accidental "test" of her character saved you from great damage of marrying such a woman. See it as a very lucky escape.

I've got two similar stories involving myself TL;DR, for which I'll spare the words.

Being involved with her also opened my eyes to various personality disorders, such as sociopathy, which I was oblivious to.

In the aftermath, putting the puzzle pieces together, she is a textbook sociopath.

The signs were:

- could not accept the unconditional love I have for my daughter, but rather, saw it as competition and a threat (and would go into fits of rage);

- would express undying love for me, then off-handedly say things like "I think we're more like fuckbuddies";

- pupils like pancakes when she was aroused (she's bi-sexual and a rabid nymphomaniac, coming every 30 seconds or so). First time I saw it, it actually freaked me out a bit; and

- would take pleasure in (attempting to) incite jealousy within me.

These are just some of the issues I faced. Some others included her parents not approving of us and refusing to meet me, and an ongoing permanent residency issue.

Her primary goal in the end was to wear me down to the point of breaking me, and then move on to the next challenge.

In a way, I'm glad it played out the way it did. With all the knowledge I've gained here and the experiences I've had since then, I'm a much better man for it now and I wouldn't have been able to pull this off.

I assume you're referring to my #2.

I actually became a Catholic. The internal structure of the church is a mess. For example, in my church, with a few exceptions, most of the men are fairly weak. This is a college campus and some of them are afraid of violating drinking age laws. The girls aren't awful (most of them are rather feminine and attractive). Of course, religious Catholic girls are tough... (GAME ADVICE NEEDED).

In terms of the doctrines:

I accept the virgin birth in some sort of fideistic way (authority of the RCC). The perpetual virginity of Mary is not supported by the evidence (the word in Greek for brother is "adelphos."). Paul consistently calls James "ton adelphon tou kyriou," or the Brother of the Lord.

The Trinity I've no issue with. My Christological beliefs are complex.

Was it a mistake? No, not at all. I sometimes wish I'd converted to Orthodox Christianity instead, but when I look at the other American Christian denominations, I'm rather happy with my choice. The RCC largely discourages parishes and dioceses from doing their own thing. There are things that are set in stone (i.e. the order of the Mass), and priests are forced to operate within strict guidelines. Usually, that's a good thing. I'll also say that, as opposed to most American Christianity, there's a lot less "prosperity theology" and the "moralistic, therapeutic deism" that seems fairly pervasive.

I also met a girl not long ago and invited her to an event I was attending that evening. I later looked at her Instagram — she has photos of the self-inflicted "cutting" scars on her arms.

A few weeks ago I was up late and noticed an ambulance outside my apartment building. I went to investigate, thinking something might have happened outside. Turns out the paramedics were treating a young woman in her apartment who was having an anxiety attack.

(I should mention this girl has a gigantic tattoo of what looks like the face of some pop star on her shoulder. As soon as I saw that, I knew she was mentally/emotionally damaged.)

It's crazy how often I run into women that have mental issues of some sort in my every day life. There was this Starbucks barista I used to chat up every now and then when I would be at the store she worked at. One time while she was on break she was sitting next to me as I was reading and we ended up having a fairly long conversation. I was reading one of Kant's works so I told her how it was about metaphysics when she asked me what the book was about. As soon as she heard the word 'metaphysics' she assumed it must be about ghosts, auras, and other New Agey type stuff and she showed me a crystal that she carried around and explained to me that it helped with her mental illness. Keep in mind at no point did I bring up anything related to that and not only that I wasn't really asking her any personal questions about herself but yet that still came out of nowhere.

One of the things I like to do for fun is to go sing karaoke and there's a group of friends that I meet up with about once a month to do so. There's a stable group that you always see at these sessions and also people that come every now and then so it's pretty common for me to meet new people. One time I met this girl there and after the session she added me on Facebook. I was looking through Facebook and saw she had linked to some posts on her Tumblr (red flags being raised already) and I decided to look through her Tumblr out of curiosity. I found that she actually had posted pics of her cutting herself and even had them tagged so by clicking one of the tags you could go through all the pics she had posted up. Along with the pics she had also written some posts about why she cuts and she talked a lot of about how much she loathed herself and how she deserves all the pain she's inflicting on herself - pretty warped stuff.

I also see a bunch of girls on my Facebook feed that constantly complain about being depressed and post memes about mental health both as a way to encourage themselves to get through the day but also just to wallow in self-pity. While I do think there's most likely more men then women who are full blown deranged (as in they need to be put in a straight jacket and confined somewhere) it seems like when it comes to more "small" stuff like the behavior described in this thread you definitely see women more prone to it.
