RE: POLL: Mayweather vs Pacquiao - Who Will Win?
The fight was exactly what I feared. That's why I feel a little disappointed this morning after looking forward to this fight for so long. It was like the night boxing died.

I don't buy the argument that Floyd's size advantage made a difference. De La Hoya is bigger than Mayweather and Pacquiao destroyed him.

He isn't brutal though and he does tend to run.

If Floyd was knocking people out most people wouldn't care about his personality.

Not jumping on the Mayweather bandwagon but I expected more from Pacquaio.

Kai - Emmitt Smith was a joke, his offensive line should be in the hall of fame. Dickerson, Payton, Brown, O.J and I could go on, were in a different class to him.

Emmit is far from a joke. He is still one of the best running backs ever. He probably was the most durable and reliable that ever played the position. I get your point though.

I also expected more from Pac as well. Towards the end he should have went all out. He was mentally defeated and it showed. He was psychologically intimidated.

Would love to see Floyd fight Golovkin next, but it's not gonna happen.

With only 1-2 more fights left in his career, Floyd is only gonna take "safe" fights now. (for example, Amir Khan)

The glamour of boxing has always been the heavyweight division. It's a big reason the sport is hurting. The Klitschko brothers are great fighters but are incredibly boring. There hasnt been a relevant U.S. heavyweight champion in over a decade now.

RE: POLL: Mayweather vs Pacquiao - Who Will Win?
Calling someone a "hater" is but a generalized form of "misogynist" or "sexist," a completely unoriginal ad hominem. Un-ironic usage of "haters" should be left to Drake songs and Grantland articles.

That being said, people criticizing Mayweather for fighting a perceived boring fight are mis-directing their criticisms. Mayweather is but doing an excellent of job at succeeding at the sport given the rules/incentive structure at hand.

"Don't hate the player, hate the game," would be the cliche here.

Rule changes to align incentives more with the spirit of the game and/or to increase entertainment value are quite common in sports. "Icing" in hockey and the dissolution of hand-checking in the NBA come to mind. I would characterize "going for" a decision to be against the spirit of boxing, even if it's a perfectly valid strategy for winning bouts under the status quo, like Hack-a-Jordan in the NBA currently.

Pacquiao, ultimately, did not have enough to threaten Mayweather. Pacquiao had (too much) respect for Mayweather's counter-punching, and looked noticeably afraid to go-after Floyd along the ropes. Pacquiao did not have a proper sense of urgency in looking for a knock-out in the last few rounds. I thought Pacquiao came in looking small, with insufficient power to hurt Mayweather.

Although Mayweather's style is not conducive to an entertaining fight, Pacquiao is not absolved from responsibility for this particular bout. He could had done a lot more.

Watching Mayweather was like watching Greg Maddux throw his 89mph 2 seamer on the outside corner of the plate.
Boring, but effective given the rules. Id never pay to watch him fight again, thats just too damn boring.

The Ukrainian guy in the 1st undercard was the most entertaining fighter of the night.

I was also pretty annoyed they sang the Mexican national anthem before the fight, and the guy started shouting 'viva mexico!! several times when he was done.
Hombre, if you love your country so much why are you in the U.S.A.?

It's funny how everyone is like, "boxing is about knocking people out. What!!!!!"

Have these dudes never watched mayweather fight. He's not an explosive, exciting fighter. He fights to win, not to entertain you. He entertains you and gets you sucked in by bullshitting outside of the ring. But he's quite clinical and ruthless in the ring. I don't see how hard it is to understand that.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Cinco de Mayo, supposedly--although that raises more questions than it answers.

This was the most heavily promoted fight of what, the last 20 years? So most people commenting know next to nothing about boxing, me included. So we ignorantly assume that the fight will be engaging and entertaining, given all the hype, because we know nothing about the fighters - we've just seen Ali and a couple youtube highlights at most.

Just like you said, Mayweather's only an entertainer outside the ring.

Trying to cover all their bases, the Mexican crowd makes up a huge portion of PPV numbers

Part of his marketing genius

Maywheather likes to troll Cinco de Mayo. Its been his thing for a while. I remember him with the Mexico tricolor mouth guard and shorts for vs. De La Hoya.

I confess here that I did not watch the fight. I've been burned by Money May many times before. He isn't entertaining in the ring when he fights, I would rather watch him pre right going over strategy and his training and then post fight again recapping. I knew I wouldn't miss anything even though I was rooting low key for the underdog.

Plus bars last night had real good ratios, lots of ladies in groups just hanging out.

Mexicans dislike El Negro.

When Pac fought others, Mexicans were against him because
1 - Pac has a history of beating Mexican boxers up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_Pacqu...ing_record
2 - Margarito did not get a another fight
3 - Marquez got whopped 2/3 times
4 - Barrera & Morales did not get a another fight

The list goes on...
