Or go for linen. I have a couple pairs of light linen pants that are nice and cool but get wrinkled when you sit, so they are more of a nice evening pant for when you wont be sitting much.

Cheers mate, I'm sure they may well be cooler than shorts, I know if I wear a loose-ish cotton long sleeve shirt its cooler than a t-shirt.

Out of the two, the seersucker is a clear winner.

Not that the sportcoat is wrong, or not nice. That is a traditional style sportcoat, and therefore might come across looking that way.

But fit is everything. What I might do is pick it up and have it tailored heavy. Raise the armholes, tighten the sleeves, bring in the waist... but now you are going to be paying a bit of money for all this. The danger is that OTR it will be roomy in the arms (the nature of a sportcoat).

What did you end up getting?

The seersucker had the same issues you mentioned (although it was a suit). Armholes were good, but shortening the sleeves(it was actually almost 3 inches) widened the width of the sleeve opening, which made you need to taper the sleeves. That coupled w/the waist supression was just too much.

Granted I had 100 dollars tailoring credit (for nordstrom card members), but I think heavy tailoring is taking too big of a gamble- finished result might look weird.

I ended up picking up the sportscoat. 429+tax. Blue-gray plaid should be fairly versatile and the fit was almost perfect (just had to shorten the sleeves a touch).

So whenever I have browsed the sections of Nordstorms or Neiman Marcus's blazer section I have come across plaid designs like these:



So when I was visiting India I decided to get one similar, custom made.



I am in my mid 30s, dark tan and think I can pull this off with dark jeans, a white shirt and a black/dark tie. However, my Gf (who is in her mid 20s) hates it and feels that it makes me look old. So I am having second thoughts, what do you guys think?

Plaid aren't the sort of jackets you wear with a tie.

A tie brings a (relatively) dull focal point, on an outright dull attire, being the single tone suit.

A tie also finalises order, which is why it is part of formal attire.

Plaid is a chaotic look.

Swagger in not a fan, sorry bud. But a huge part of a suit is the fit, so even though I don't like the design much it's possible you make it fit right. Those lapels are huge though. It's really something you'd have to see on. You also have to see what youre wearing it with as well. im sure some cats could pull it off but very few. I do like certain plaids, but you have to choose wisely. Just because you see something at nordstroms doesn't mean it's hot. Keep in mind most dudes have terrible style, even dudes that dress in suits. You want to stand out and look sharp, not like everyone else dressed like a senator.

@Swagger- I like it. Just puff a baby blue square in that jacket and itll look fresh as hell. Ditch the tie. Unbutton the dress shirt.

Another thought- olive green pocket square. Or another bright/pastel color. Or something w/stripes. Tons to do w/it.

I would not wear it (i don't really like the pattern), but if you think it suits you well, by all means use it and kill it

I will be the voice of opposition. I would rock the jacket with
1) tan/khaki pants and a light colored dress shirt w/a bright square
2) Gray pants and light colored dress shirt and square
3) White pants and black v-neck
4) Charcoal/Navy pants w/ dress shirt and baby blue or mint green square

^^^ All of this is summer evening upscale casual wear. Bright colors and bringing out v-necks into the rotations.

Plaid maybe in if you are some stupid hipster, but next year it will be out. Stick to styles that never go out of style like a nice tweed sport coat or a blue blazer (no gold buttons).

As stated before very few guys can pull off that look. If you have a bit of a physique those jackets tend to fit poorly and make you look odd, speaking from personal experience.

In the picture above, I actually like the colour of the solid colour jacket. Looks likes a hot pink, pair that with some nice white linen pants and some strong suede shoes. (tassle shoes are hot right now).

As for Houndstooth and the green tie, are you serious!!!

Heres a thought for you boys wearing jeans and a white T-shirt/V-neck. Swap jeans for navy birdseye wool slacks or med blue birdseye slacks.

Rocked a white v-neck that hugged my body, navy birdseye slacks and brown oxfords.

Twist on the classic white shirt/blue jeans look + you get better airflow for summer time. Thank me later.

Been changing my style from smart shirts/shirt suspenders/ties/cravats/suit trousers to this. Only trialed it twice but got double the amount of IOI's and random dance-offs than I usually do. Plus I pulled both times. (probably to do with more than just a change of trouser colour though)

I love white jeans. I'm gonna try some form of lavish Motley-Crue-esque coat.

What are you guys' opinion on tucking in v necks?
I've got a good waist to shoulder ratio and without the bottom of a t shirt/ v neck tucked in I look stocky/ fat. Also the shirt is very baggy around my waist. But tucking it on looks try hard etc.

My tailor is in town now so I met with him last night to get a couple bespoke Marzoni jackets which are shown below. Ordered these two and also a lighter blueish hue linen for the endless summer presenting itself worldwide.

Went with more of a slim and fit cut than the guys in the photos, but nevertheless those are the jackets.

On the linen, I'm still unsure if I should go patch pockets at the waist and then a standard pocket square pocket, or flapped pockets down below. Thoughts? For now I'm rolling patch pockets, no flap.

I like patch pockets on the sides. It keeps things looking a bit more casual and you can get away with a shorter cut jacket for some reason. I dont know, maybe its just me.

I have a patch breast pocket on one of my jackets and I dont think I like it. I have had to get much smaller pocket squares to fit in there so not to bulge it out. If it was a regular pocket the bulge would be inside the jacket.

Im digging the Houndstooth (is it linen as well?) jacket mate. Very smooth. I have been meaning to pick one up for ages, but havent found anything off the rack that does it for me. Probably going to have to go bespoke.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the patch pockets and also regarding the patch pocket on the breast. Going with the patch below, slit on the breast.

Neither of these pictured are linen, both are 100% wool. I got the Houndstooth with only 1/2 lining, to keep it light though.

TBH, you could go to the store and pick stuff like this up. Slacks should be about 100-150 for good quality (Nordstroms). 100% wool preferred (although my navy birdseye pants are wool-silk blend) w/rayon lining.
