I'm very knowledgeable about Haitian history. You forgot to mention Papa Doc & Baby Doc...the two ruthless dictators who ruled Haiti with iron fists -- and robbed the country blind. Yes, Haiti has gone through hell for sure...but, there doesn't seem to be any end to the misery. As you know, there was a devasting earthquake in Port-au-Prince early this yr where hundreds of thousands of lives were lost. Now there's a cholera outbreak there. The Haitian people have never been able to catch a break. The irony of all this is that Haiti is located in the Caribbean. When most peeps think of the Caribbean, they think of tropical weather, beautiful beaches, palm trees & paradise. Haiti has been the anti-paradise. Why is that??? I'll never understand. Haiti should be the number one tourist destination in the Caribbean -- not the biggest basket case in the Western Hemisphere.

Yep, those guys never get a break. Their land has even been raped. Mad deforestization there. I work with a lot of Hatians, some of the girls are real pretty. Do you know the life expectancy in Haiti is something around 30 years old? The lowest life expectancy in the world. I'd love to go, but won't do it. You would stick out like a soar thumb and it's just too dangerous being rich there (And I'm not rich, but someone who makes $10 an hour there would be considered rich). I think it was 2006 or something like that, almost 30 Americans were kidnapped alone. Last year there was only one reported kidnapping of an American, but still, I don't think I would risk it, especially with the Cholera outbreak going on.

Casa Valeria is a very low key, quiet place. The house rules are: no guests of clients allowed at the pool and no 2 guests allowed in a room at the same time.

Yes. I mean only one guest per client paying the room. In other terms, you're not supposed to bring 2 girls back in your room for instance. That's what is written in the house rules. But management seems flexible if they like you, same for the no guest of client allowed in the pool.

The Marriott Jaragua is where I normally stay in Santo Domingo and has a nice pool over looking the Caribbean Sea on Malecon also the Hilton down the road is a good option as well. This time of year is a good time to visit alot of cool festivals and Winter Baseball League is poppin off. Alot of the MLB Dominican Players play in the DR Baseball league during this time and It's extremely festive not your average MLB game in the states.

I've met plenty of professional women (Lawyers/Doctors now but at the time were in school) in the DR who don't ask for anything that I'm still cool with today.
