This is a fascinating thread about rolling solo, venue selection and how to conduct yourself in a nightlife environment. Would definitely read again.

My experience rolling solo is that every bar has a lifespan and an X amount of times you can go in a set amount of time before it becomes transparent why you're there and everyone becomes a hater or your vibe becomes stale. What I've learned from reading this thread and reflecting on my own experience is its better to find several good spots and keep them in rotation rather than finding a great place and milking it until it becomes unusable (which is what I've tended to do). Also theres no point in getting too friendly with the bar staff, better to just tip them and not talk to them too much and be cool. Getting to know the managers and bouncers actually seems useful on the other hand.

I read through the whole thread and it was very educational, my bar experience isn't as far-reaching as some of the other guys here.

That out of the way, this is what I would do.

1. The respectable route. Use his medium against him. Go on the bar's yelp page and leave them a scathing 1-star review. Mention this bartender in particular, actually start the whole review with "AVOID XXX BARTENDER, HE IS A JEALOUS CREEP" and then mention the letter and his bad behavior, embellish and exaggerate just like he did to you. A bad Yelp review is very detrimental to a business like a bar. The owner will not be pleased (with him). Find the bar's facebook page and tell of your experience there. Be tactful and business like in the way you convey your message. Leave a scathing comment sporadically every few weeks. It will fuck up their image.

2. I know this sounds really immature, but man this whole thread got me angry. Wait one night for his shift to end, follow him around a dark corner and just beat his fucking face in. Don't send him to the hospital, but send him a very clear physical message that these types of actions have very real consequences. Spit on his face afterwards to add insult to injury. Walk away and never return again.

Shit, I would do both.

I had a girl bartender do this shit to me. I had another buddy she also fucked with. Nobody knew what problem she had with us. I even tried to make amends with her and buy her a drink. She blew me off. I eventually met her roommate who happened to go to the same college as me and ran the local alumni chapter. He said she questioned how he knew me. He thought she was just mad at the world because she went to an elite school and was bartending so late in her age. I would just order from every other bartender except her. No problems were had after that. I am still dealing with the people who lean on me to cause trouble. Lately, I have just stopped and turned and said something as simple as "EASY." and backturned them. I think some girls must be new to the bar game when they turn 21 and assume they can jump in the bar and lean on people to get drinks because there isn't any open space and they have no idea yet about bar etiquette. I think I used to do that when I was 21. I give people plenty of space and do not encroach if there is no space. I adapt and find some other way to get in there.

While I want to agree with the guys saying you should go deck him and fight him, you don't want to end up in jail over this. If there are any witnesses(in a crowded city like new york, very possible), you could end up in jail and this loser just isn't worth it.

I can offer you a plan C: we ALL write scathing reviews of this bar and of this bar tender and how unprofessional he was and we will definitely not be going back to this bar because this bartender was a douche for no reason. It would be great if we could spread a few dozen reviews out over several months to make it look as bad as possible.

Something like
"I don't usually write yelp reviews, only when I have an extremely positive or extremely negative experience. I was at bar X, and met a really cool girl and we really clicked and it was going really well. Apparently one of the bartenders, y, had a crush on the same girl and made every effort to try to sabotage me. I had never said or done anything to antagonize or make this bartender behave in such a jealous irrational manner, it was like I was back in high school, or more like grade school" etc. something along those lines. We all would have to make the reviews different so that they didn't sound like they were all coming from the same person.

It's a cool idea, but you have to understand, my friends work at this bar. These are people who have helped me greatly throughout the years.

It's just this one asshole who has been enabled to spew his venom.

The one thing that's for sure with this place is that the quality of girls has gone down a lot in the last five years.

The combination of that fact and that he's now the manager probably means he's close with the owner.

He's positioned himself very well to be able to act how ever he wants without repercussion.

-Create twenty facebook profiles and give atrocious reviews.

-Buy 6 rats, three male and three female and let them reproduce in the ventilation system until the club has serious rat issue

-Find out who supplies them with liquor and get a job there. Use your paycheck to buy large amount of laxatives and inject them into their shipments (call them shitments in your later villain manifesto).

-Find a gold digger using your red pill skills, tell her he is rich as fuck and make him fall in love with her and marry her. Then fuck her and let him raise your child. Make him love it like it's his. After some time send him paternity test confirming that the child is not his and he'll lose half of the club in divorce process. Since the kid will get half of the club manipulate him to give it to you. Use your half of the club and call it "Indefinite". Also draw the line in the middle and tell him he is banned from your part of the club. Your music must always be louder than his.

-Mask yourself and become his gym buddy and PT. Feed him estrogen and drugs until he is blindly in love with you then make him amputate his legs. Shoot him with some test after the process so he comes to his senses and buy him a wheelchair to make up to him. Bartender sounds like he has qualities of a gamma, a "Dan", or perma-chode, in Krauser parlance... a kind of insecurity fueled with/by self-righteousness. Outside of his beef with OP, he did successfully attain a powerful perch in his bar and the ability to execute on his whims. Always something to learn even from our foes... Imagine if he'd used that power for good (a mutually exclusive poonvironment).

I've been to [bar I think it is] a few times over the years and agree with your quality assessment... its rep as an easy hook-up spot became less deserved and it slowly became a parody of its former self... (did Lit lounge in the LES do this too? I had a great kickout-and-return story for that place!).

What resonates with me most is the nostalgbarrasment of early solo regular-at-a-bar game... striking that acquaintance-"you saw me get blown out a lot but sometimes score" balance with the staff. Years later I wonder how balanced it really was.

456 you are probably right about the bar- truth is that the big meat market bars in that area that were hip several years ago have become red giant sausage fests sprinkled with 5-6s.

I have working history with most of those venues ( you are probably right about which it is). Yes there is a weird thing about coming back to a venue when you've upped your game.

I went on that bars facebook page and didn't see any bartenders that I wouldn't make cry. This is a simple case of Soup getting AMOG'd by some hipster beardo.


Edit: When you're getting AMOG'd by hipsters it's a definite sign you need to hit the gym, hard.
