Guys do not forget about the water weight. Whoever swells back up the most after weigh ins will be bigger. That probably does not help you gamblers much, but it isn't hard at all to get back 10lbs after a weigh in. Lots of guys do that. Back when I was active, I would walk around 180, cut to 155, then water back up to 165-170 easy in hours. The only drawback to doing this is fatigue and body wear of stressing the body like that as well as cramps and dehydration issues. Practice makes perfect and these guys have plenty experience and great trainers so there is no excuse to step in the ring too skinny. Very few can get away with having the same walk and fight weights and actually be very good at it.

The only numbers that are legit on a Tale of the Tape screen, is reach, age, and maybe height. That's it.

How do you lads typically watch fights? The atmosphere in a pub came be good at times, but for the most part I find myself surrounded by would be commentators that don't know what they're watching. The last major fight I watched in a pub was Manny vs. Floyd. The theme I heard from most people that night was 'this isn't much of a fight'. Yeah, no shit it's called boxing not fighting.

I like to watch fights by myself or with my girl.

She knows when to shut up and let me concentrate on what is happening and has seen just about every fight I've ever seen and can assess the action much better than my guy friends who just talk incessant bollocks.

Good fight between Diaz and McGregor. Diaz gets busted up like an 80s wrestling match when he fights. And Rumble is awesome. I would have McGregor fight Aldo and Diaz fight Alvarez next. If both win, fight for the 155 belt.

McGregor looked very faded again in the later rounds.. mirror image of the first fight except he decided to coast and clinch instead of go all out. Major achilles heel being broadcasted to the world, so long as you have zombie toughness and marathon cardio like Nate.


Also cant forget the absolute brutality of a KO by Rumble Johnson. Glover completely in la-la land. 13 seconds is all it took.

Fantastic event from start to finish, couldn't ask for more, truly inspiring. In my opinion Diaz vs. McGregor was a draw, both men put it all out there, bring on part 3

^I dont see a point to a 3rd match. Conor wins when boxing Nate. Nate can outlast Conor and beat him in grappling. both fights were exactly the same except Conor played it smart.

Next fight should be mcgregor vs aldo 2 for the belt.

McGregor is beast.. a lot of those shots in the early rounds would have put away most fighters but Nate has proven to be tough as they come. Also McGregor's foot work and movement are top notch. His gas tank appears to run out a bit early but it wouldn't matter so much if he lands those bombs on fighters who aren't as durable as Nate.

An as I have always said.... Rumble is the scariest hitter in the game

Rumble is from Dublin, GA. I am also from georgia and we used to go up against him in a big wrestling tournament down south. I remember him wrestling our guy, who was a state champion and a junior. His movement and athleticism was insane, he won the match by 3 points, but it basically looked like a division 1 match with how good the 2 guys were. And when you beat someone by 3 points in a d1 wrestling match, that's a pretty big win.

I think Cormier goes to sleep if Rumble can connect with one good shot.

Edit: Also, Rumble was a lot leaner in high school. I believe he wrestled 160, possibly moved to 171 when he was older.

Conor definately needs to defend his title next, but he does need to fight Diaz again. Diaz clearly needs to make a few adjustments to his gameplan, with a better gameplan he could have won, it was already close as hell as is. I don't think he expected Conor to be as patient as he was, or that he would be as effective with the leg kicks.

He made it clear in the scrum afterwards that he was a UFC-man and had no intention of leaving.

I enjoy watching him fight; he's a technician and very precise. It is good to see someone who uses high level muay thai still in the cage.

I don't think anyone coild make Conor as much money as Diaz, provided both fighters win a fight or two between now and then. Sure there are other fights that may make more sense, but I don't think theyll bring the same ppv numbers.

It is truly special to see an elite athlete before they make it to the big leagues. Seen it myself in other sports and it puts into perspective how stratified human athletic ability is. Too bad so many clueless high school kids keep thinking they are "gonna go pro" someday.

btw, Rumble did land that one big shot on Cormier. Cormier won the fight with a choke.

Cormier just has a way higher fight IQ than Rumble.

People love to hate on Cormier, and I personally think it's cause he doesn't look as ripped and classically athletic as guys like Rumble and Jones.

The dude has a very, very high fight IQ and is a smart cookie in general; he knows what he's doing and that pays dividends against guys like Rumble who don't.

I don't like this attitude that unless you are a top 1% you shouldn't dream about hitting the big leagues.

I dont disagree, but it also varies from sport to sport. many sports differ on the level of physicality required. I didnt mean to rag on anyone young trying to push themselves. I was more referring to the legions of young dumb kids who are truly clueless and won't even become collegiate level athletes. But to say you can keep pushing yourself and overcome someone who shows simply amazing abilities of strength, speed, and adeptness is setting yourself up for a mental crisis when you hit the wall and no more barriers can be broken. Hard working athletes can get very far but there is a point almost all will reach when the elite level athlete succeeds and you can only watch in awe.

I also dont think sports and game are very comparable.

Well sports history is littered with "world class talents" that failed to make the grade.

Game and sports are very comparable; of course they are.

I went to a highly competitive rugby playing school and played to a very high schoolboy level myself; there are currently many of my alumni that are plying their trade as pro players here in the UK. What's odd is that most of them couldn't get into our representative teams at 18 years old. They didn't have the natural skill. They had desire and graft.

Graft is more important than talent, on the whole, for most people. In any field.

Youre being sentimental about which stories you draw inspiration from. Just look at across the board who made it and who did not. Of course, the extremely motivated made it to the next level, why discuss anyone else. But without talent youre going to hit your plateau and theres no breaking that ceiling. There are some people who continue to improve throughout their development and there are others who improve to a certain limit. I should add i believe there isnt one person who is born without talent. We all just have different talents and i'm a firm believer in playing your strengths.

Game is more like fishing. In sports you have someone directly opposing what you are doing in order to win. In game, and like fishing, nobody is stopping you from succeeding except your own gumption, so you keep repeating attempts until you develop your craft and knowledge base.
