RE: The Andrew Yang thread
What do we do? Here's what we do.

We fucking go after the criminals who stole the life savings the American middle class -- easily the greatest theft in the history of the human race -- and we put them in fucking jail, strip them of every asset, and throw their wives and children in the street to beg.

Or, perhaps less punitive, we enact a broad suite of border restoration, job-conservation, wage-growth, and job-protection legislation, which will acknowledge the massive technological changes in the world economy and set the tone for the future economic stability. There are dozens of perfectly realistic ways to preserve jobs in the economy without sacrificing the benefits of automation. We could spend the next decade enacting reasonable changes, without even stretching that far...there is so much low-hanging fruit to be gotten. Just shutting down the h1b/h2b program will take a lot of work but will yield huge paybacks. Shutting down trade of manufactured goods with China is priority 2. Shutting down trade/support of IT services and computer software with India is priority 3.

All of this, plus the demographic reductions in population, might help us slip by the latest automation crunch.

If Yang wants to push this agenda, fine I'll let him be that man. But he'd better prove that he believes it and switch parties to boot.

We certainly do NOT allow the criminals to get off scot-free. We certainly do NOT voluntarily take their puny fucking $1000/month and thus volunteer to be their bitches for the rest of our lives.

Maybe UBI goes on our list of measures. At the absolute bottom, to be tried after all other better choices have been wrung dry.

Super. Your services will be undercut by someone less scrupulous. That's how this works. The pizza store guy that doesn't want the robots goes out of business. The taxi fleet that says "we will live and die by human driven vehicles" simply dies.

The end. How many people are still riding horses as act of solidarity with the farriers of the world?

"Who can even live on 1k a month!?"
"People will just drop out of society and smoke weed."

Choose one.

"Socialism will result in Venezuela."

Maybe in places where the demographics are Venezuelan in nature. Scandinavia is very socialist and it's possibly the most civilized place on earth. But I guess we file that under "shit we're not allowed to talk about".

"Finland abandoned their UBI proving that it's a shit idea."

I thought, "fuck it, I better start digging to see if the nature of the UBI there was the same as what Yang is proposing". First article I clicked on. First two sentences.

Quote:Finland recently cooled on its so-called "universal basic income" experiment of replacing traditional unemployment relief with unconditional flat cheques for a sample of unemployed adults.

Contrary to what its name suggests, the trialled scheme was not "universal": a sample of already-unemployed people, not a sample of the whole population, received cheques.

Not the same. Stop talking about Finland.

"Kentucky real-estate is up!"

How many former coal-miners are capable of becoming realtors or have any real capitol to become real-estate moguls?

You fiscal conservative types are screaming into an abyss. Guys like Doc holiday and PapayaTapper are either very humble or they're being disingenuous in suggesting that the unwashed masses of mid-to-low witted Americans displaced by robots are capable of simply turning those lemons into lemonade.

As I said before, government intervention in the public and private sectors which in America's case amounts to a large chunk of the trillion dollar yearly deficits has stalled the unemployment that automation would otherwise have caused by pushing those people into government work, government contracting, further education and other schemes to keep those functionally unemployable people from starving in the streets or rioting prior. What Yang and others are saying is that not only is automation going to accelerate in the years to come but when AI becomes a reality then vast swathes of jobs are simply going to vanish overnight.

"I want a tax return done. Should I choose a human worker who'll take 3 to 5 business days and maybe fuck it up?"

*click*

"*bzzzt* Your return has been filed in *bzzt* .27 seconds and your fee of *bzzt* five dollars will be deducted from your return thankyou for using robocoutant."

You want to know what the pointy end of SBR's McDonald's analysis looks like?

Quote:"From fabric cutting and sewing to finished product, it takes roughly four minutes," said Tang Xinhong, chairman of Tianyuan Garments. "We will install 21 production lines. When fully operational, the system will make one T-shirt every 22 seconds. We will produce 800,000 T-shirts a day for Adidas."

...
Tang said that with complete automation, the personnel cost for each T-shirt is roughly 33 cents. "Around the world, even the cheapest labour market can't compete with us. I am really excited about this," he said.

Forget cutting first world workers out of the loop. Automation even cuts Chinese slaves out of the loop.

Again, it's another case of "your solution isn't perfect therefore it's rejected, not that I'll come up with one of my own".

Personally I've got nothing against voluntary eugenics, whether it's by convincing the feckless not to breed and rewarding them as such or pushing the limits of genetic modification until the movie GATTACA becomes a reality.

There's absolutely no reason why the population of the planet or any nation therein must grow. It absolutely makes sense to shrink the population and raise the standard of the next generation to the greatest degree possible thus mitigating the effect of automation creating a surplus of people with no purpose.

Borders should be protected with machine guns and drones. Zero immigration is a no-brainer. Not H1Bs. Not "skilled professions". Not "people yearning to be free". Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Pay people that arrived within the last 20 years 5 years worth of welfare in one envelope to go back to their shitholes. It's a money saver in the long-run.

Meanwhile a UBI might actually compel middle class whites to start having children again and redress the balance of welfare-queen dirt-worlders pumping out enough fetal alcohol syndrome babies and inbred Mohammedeans to swamp the West forever.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

Yang's CNN townhall is tomorrow at 7pm EST - 2 hours before Game of Thrones premiere.

This past week has been great for Yang's exposure to more Americans, he's been on Ben Shapiro's show:

George Stephanopoulos (ABC):

Joy Reid's show (MSNBC):

And finally, he got some attention on CNN with this stunt:

Almost forgot, he also had a quick interview on CNN a few days as well:

Why are you guys excited about the UBI?

None of you will be able to claim it.

Seriously though, the one bottom line that BoomerCon posters here just can't seem to wrap their heads around is that Yang's UBI means $2 trillion/year being redirected to Middle America, towards the silent majority that has been milked to death from both ends in the last half century, and is about to get fucked over even deeper.

We've had socialism for the banksters since 1913, and socialism for the mooching class since LBJ, all paid for by Middle America. Once you get that, and you get out of your mom-jean dogma, you'll understand that this UBI deal represents a huge step towards righting the ship.

Explore a gradual phase-in of a desired ratio of administrators to students of 1 to 30 as a condition of public funding as opposed to the current 1 to 21. The ratio was 1 to 50 in the 1970s – if we can get back to that level then college will be much cheaper.

Absolutely mindblowing that in the age where you can prepare all the data for several thousand students in a few minutes by sorting it in Excel there is double the number of administrators around at colleges. It seems that parasiting on government subsidies truly pays off.

Yes college system is broken. Its been coopted by liberal special interests (see my previous post on Citizens United ) on the "supply" side then enabled by students / "demand" taking huge loans for worthless degrees.

The single most important factor behind the rise in tuition is that high tuition allows colleges to “shape” their student bodies. What does this mean exactly? In essence, the higher the tuition cost, the easier it is for universities to recruit the exact type of students they want by offering them college tuition discounts.

Why? Why do the colleges want to structure the composition of their student body?

Another case of forced outcomes imposed over meritocracy. The idiocy of PC culture exacerbated by gov meddling.

(By the way affirmative action IMO should have been eliminated a loooong time ago,,,but thats another discussion)

So a school that charges $50,000 is able to offer a huge range of inducements to different sorts of students. Some could pay $10,000, others $30,000 or $40,000. Only a handful can pay the full price. A college is able to then recruit a diverse set of students with competitive test scores and accomplishments.

So it’s about pricing strategy! That sounds like a sales trick that’s as old as time itself. Tricks that used car salesman use on unsuspecting buyers. Its the old- “I’ve got to have enough room under the top-line sticker price.”

This, of course, explains primarily the reason for tuition increases at private colleges that don’t get any state funding. At public universities, there are additional factors for college tuition increases, such as students (demand), rather than state governments, absorbing more college costs.

Federal student aid accounts for most of the college tuition increases between 1987 and 2010, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. It’s simple. The more money students can borrow, the more colleges are able to charge. They are playing off the government’s ability to offer student loans to anyone who qualifies. So, who can qualify for federal student loans? Every college student in the U.S.!

Does this sound familiar? It should. Its the same lunacy in principle that caused the 2008 financial crisis albeit via mortgages instead of student loans.

Example: Remember this poor girl?

She takes on $226k worth of student debt in order to become a "speech pathologist". I didnt even know what that was so I looked it up.

It's a legit ok job. But they top out at about $100k a year or $50 an hour.

Under what analysis is a a quarter mil $ debt for that return a good investment? Who does that?

No wonder she cant buy a house...she's already starting out with a mortgage

I am perplexed how she let herself end up that way but what about her parents ? Did no one ever stop to look the formula?

Also how much of that debt was actual direct school costs (tuition, books, etc) and how much of it was lifestyle (room , board, partying, etc)? Unless she went to some Ivy League speech pathology program Id venture to say she could have at the very least softened that debt burden by working (Oh shit...I went and said that dirty word) her way through school

And now she ends up at a Bernie rally as a victim without blame.

Solutions? In this case I dont know enough details but I would bet there are people getting degrees in speech pathology without incurring $226k in student debt. Do that.

Im not unsympathetic but goddam...decisions and actions have consequences. Yes the system is fucked and costs are out of control...but how many times does the government have "try to help" only to make a complete shitsicle out of it before society stops asking for more.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
My point was that having a large segment of the population become effectively nonproductive is unprecedented and nature tends to eliminate the useless through competition. Figure in the transition from agrarian to industrial society you had say only the bottom 5% of IQs that were too stupid to work in a factory without hurting themselves or others, but there were still farmhand or janitor jobs left for that group. The recent transition to a post-industrial information society still left service industry work but it knocked out such a large swath of the population that you have these giants hordes of people on disability or living in welfare ghettos. With all the outsourcing and present use of robotic labor there are already way more IQ 85-100 people than there are jobs for those people.

The advance of AI to at least a facsimile of natural language processing is going to eliminate the service industry along with the bottom tier of white collar work. We're likely to hit a point within 50 years or so where only people with at least one std dev above average IQ will have any hope of gainful employment. Right now there's a perverse incentive to bring more low IQ people in just to depress labor costs and maintain a solid dem voting block, but it's pretty obvious that the bugmen would just love to eliminate all the rural conservatives that don't vote the way they want. Look at how much they wail about poor little Mexican children in cage at the border but then don't give two shits that poor little American children in Kentucky don't have any teeth because they were bottle-fed mountain dew.

I don't think this is a conscious plan by anyone, but I would predict that not long after conservative whites become a tiny and ineffective minority the brown hordes will start being coerced into population control programs since their vote is no longer necessary to maintain control. I would assume mandatory birth control implants if you want your YangBux, justified by "environmentalist" concerns.

The other thought the supports this is that the elites have an entirely different culture from the rest of us, they don't really feel any sort of kinship or sense of noblesse oblige. It's just that for all of history they still needed peasants to work the farms, proles to work the factories, and soldiers to have their fun wars. Also for all of history the elites have been scared shitless that the people beneath them would overthrow them, so it makes sense that if they got automated production and a robot army that they'd want to eliminate all possible threats to their privileged position in society.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
I can't keep up with all you fellas with all these statistics and whatnot that you have. You seem to know what you're talking about.

With that in mind. I've got a different and probably not earth-shattering 'muse' on it all to put forward:

If this thing ever comes about, and by that I mean mass automation, societal discontent, and UBI.

Thesis, antithesis, synthesis??? (did I get that right?)

Well if it does all come about and we are found in a world of robots taking over our jobs (not getting in to AI here, just plain old robotics), and that leads to mass unemployment (not an illogical conclusion), and that then leads on to a little 'wealth redistribution' - FINALLY! -- whether that is to placate the uppity hordes or just plan for a better future -- then...

whether it is to avoid mass unrest or just move forward as a species, it has to be a good thing, right? Water always finds its own level. It's good to be talking about these things, but...

Somewhere the chain needs to be broken.

Those that hold power will only consolidate it. You have Kissinger talking about brave men that fight for their country as 'dumb, stupid animals'. No person of royalty or top politician or policeman has ever been done for child abuse. I guess they are better than us right and they just don't do that shit? Of course they don't...

Where will the chain be broken?

I can't see any weak links in it myself. The elites hold an iron chain of command down from themselves to the judiciary to the police... roughly speaking. You know. All the way down to commanding actual gangs and real life bully boys who are the real rulers of the streets. Anarcho-tyranny - the police/judiciary turn a blind eye. Sometimes you need a few leg-breakers to make your omelettes.

So I can't see the chain being broken.

Not without a lot of cracked eggs that no one is prepared to sacrifice at this 'nice' point in history.

So let's assume that things trundle along nicely.

Robotics/AI start to hold sway. People are outmoded. Government moves to tamper down unrest and bring in a new paradigm via UBI.

I know this is an old argument, but it's a very important one none the less: Some jobs can not be roboticized/automated.

The most important jobs of all in fact. Caring, nursing. Not talking about diagnosis here, talking about wiping people's arses. No robot will ever do that. Well, never say never, but you know...

People will always need clothes to wear. You can only outsource fashion to AI so much. Some one has to pick the cotton! Design the machines. Make aesthetic decisions. Feel the pulse of the zeitgeist to market it.

(And by 'pick the cotton' I mean, choose the suitable fields, organise the labour force, make sure the agricultural concerns are met, that the land is free, that it's legal, that it's insured because it's right in the middle of tornado alley, etc. etc. - sure you can get machines to 'pick the cotton' - but there's a whole load more to it than that. And who oversees that? AI?, what if it gets confused and goes wrong?)

Food. Machines can't taste. They have no taste (or taste) - only what their programming masters tell them what is 'good'.

Music. Ok, we are going down the hierarchy of needs here, but man made music the day he bumped a few twigs on those logs, and he'll never abandon it as an 'art form'.

Story-telling. What makes a good story? No one knows.

Psychology. What makes someone insane or to be deemed to have a personality disorder? No one really knows.

But of course you can do all things crudely by rote, just like you can study to pass an exam by remembering facts - dull AI - but true intelligence is to be able to work with what you don't have in front of you and to deduce the facts from the noise. Deduction, induction, interpolation, extrapolation...

Some might call that consciousness.

(Someone I used to know could come to the right conclusions when asked questions and given problems about stuff. But when pressed as to how he came to those answers, he could not explain - he just knew. Consequently, though very bright - and able to fix vacuum cleaners - and all that, he couldn't get a job. Society couldn't account for his form of consciousness. It couldn't explain itself. There was no way he was getting any academic qualifications.)

No consciousness. No AI. Not 'strong' AI anyway.

https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~arihuang/a...ngai3.html

There will be disruptions of course. These are just the early days. It will be surprising to many the jobs that can be automated. But it might also surprise others when they find that other jobs they thought would be a 'breeze' still need that human touch.

I'm not future gazing here. My point is that it will be hit and miss, trial and error, and that there will always be a need for human input.

But that is only while we value quality, aesthetics. If we become soul-less machines as well then why should we care what we wear, what we eat, the music we listen to?

And this does seem to be a trend: to dumb down, to subtract from the human experience.

Will anyone care in 20 years time if their clothes are rags and their food tastes of cardboard and their music turns full circle and goes back to being little more that a few twigs bumping against logs?

Mankind needs to be nurtured, just as kids need to be. Not just fed and kept alive. They need books, stimulation, activities, challenges...

So many have just accepted their lot. I know I have. But I still dream big. Hope dies last.

My hope is, that if all this comes about, people will rediscover a bit of their humanity (if they have any left), and that they will go out and do the proper jobs: looking after the old - wiping their arses - cleaning their houses - teaching them how to use tech - listening to them and the wisdom they have to share - learning! Doing their bit for society.

I have some hope, but at the same time I don't hold out much hope.

While the masses have the bread and circuses to keep them fed/entertained.

We become who we are brought up by.

We can crush those we bring up to be shadows of ourselves.

Not just talking parenting here, but wider social dictates.

We are being farmed like cattle. Our 'parents' don't care about us.

Society as a whole is narcissistic. They make sure those they rear never ever get a chance to outshine the master. And so we diminish. And so we find ourselves here.

We are outliers and outlanders on this forum.

But the whole world is bending out of shape and changing in all kinds of strange ways. It's getting harder and harder to work with vulnerable people - those that need it the most - because all men are seen as predators until proven innocent - they assume that we want to fuck and rape and rob those who we would help. Better to be safe than sorry eh? That is the metric.

No wonder some of us go in to a shell.

It's a fight to keep doing the right thing when most people don't want to do the right thing anyway.

Our society is sick and robotics/automation and UBI will not solve that core issue.

...

I wanted to talk a bit about robotics and AI, but it's already a long post. I played about with this stuff back a few decades ago, making up my own machines, trying to control them via air powered pneumatic computers and logic gates, not too dissimilar to the logic gates found on CPU today.

Pneumatics/Hydraulics.

That whole 'fucking machine' thing that sprouted up was no surprise to me. I'd been making those machines decades earlier. And the Boston Dynamics shit as well - just an extension of that. I lived and breathed that stuff for a few years till it was time to move on. But it's still dear to my heart. I've forgotten most of it now.

So many tangents. So many unknowns.

It's good to network, to connect. To dream, to bring it all back down to earth again.

Then move on.

The water will find its own level.

(yeah I know it's a scrambled egg of a post, but sometimes you just want to write some notes and put stuff out there)

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
OK well everybody wants to rescue the middle class. That's good.

> Left wingers want to use the government to give more money out to the middle class in the form of a dole.

> Right wingers want to set up policies to encourage employers to pay higher wages and boost employment/training.

Which is the best starting point?

I am calling it right now: Andrew Yang is another False Prophet.

Why? Because he says the truth but offers the populace a solution (UBI) that will chain them to the slavemasters! UBI leads to the "Mark"!

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
On a completely unrelated note, but figured this might be the best place to post:

I talked a bit about quantum computing a few pages back. Aurini asked if I could share more on quantum transportation (QT), since I brought it up briefly.

So here we go:

There's something called entanglement in quantum mechanics, where two particles become connected.

Certain particles can have a property called spin. Two options for spin: up and down.

When you have two particles entangled, you get (the following is technically incorrect, but works for illustrative purposes)

particle A has up spin
particle B has down spin

If particle A changes its spin from up to down,
then particle B will change its spin from down to up.

At no point, can both particles have up spin. Or down spin. If one changes spin, the other has to change as well to compensate.

(For those inclined to know why, it's because electrons are fermions and not boson particles. The exact principle is known as the Pauli exclusion principle).

Hence, they're entangled.

What happens in quantum transportation is that you take particle C (down spin) and further entangle it with particle A (up spin).

Then:

Particle C changes its spin from down to up,
which forces particle A to go from up to down,
which forces particle B to go from down to up.

And presto, you effectively transported the change in particle C to particle B.

Quantum transportation --- you transported the change in property of one particle (particle C) to another particle (particle B).

These changes happen instantaneously, which in practice is faster than the speed of light.

But note that you needed a particle B in existence to be able to pull this off.

This will never work with big objects such as a human being (Star Trek), because

a) quantum mechanics doesn't work on that level
b) you would need the material of a human body ready in the location you want to transport to and all you would be doing is transporting properties, not a physical being atom by atom

A good analogy: it's like you want to transport a shirt from Earth to a planet on the other side of the universe.

In reality, all you can do is make the color of an already existing shirt on the other side of the universe change from green to blue.

So once again - don't get fooled by fancy terms like "quantum". It's very often not as impressive as it sounds.

Watch this takedown of Buttgig, the shady deep state soyboy who is getting all the good press, contrasting his lack of substance vs Yang's policy-driven agenda.

Yang came up with an absolutely BRILLIANT policy idea: give every voter $100 before the major election to spend on the candidates of his choice, use it or lose it!

If this goes through, AIPAC, big pharma, the MIC and Goldman Sachs are FUCKED!!! Voters will cumulatively have $20 billion to spend, that's ultraweaponized people power!

I think this would be an absolute GAME CHANGER.

Forget the YangBucks, he deserves your vote for this alone.

Yang-Tulsi 2020, all the way.

Yang-Tulsi...I could see it. Tulsi is stronger on the foreign policy front and as far as I know she isn't a neocon. Might be the only sane option as a VP for Yang.

If you guys are worried about what jobs will be safe and what wont be I guess you could call being in security as a very secure job.

Those factories, warehouses and nice neighbourhoods wont guard themselves. Those automated delivery trucks and parcel carriers wont guard themselves. Through desperate times come more desperate people and crime would go up considerably.

People would demand private protection forces who are accountable to them. The police might not be able to cover those bases in the future.

I was just saying a few days back electric grid security is a major issue and bang, here comes Yang with a policy to upgrade America's electric grids. Fantastic.

I was hoping Trump would do this as part of the infrastructure plan he talked about. *sigh*
