RE: The Andrew Yang thread
After listening to the Ben Shapiro interview, I am a Yang supporter. I like his story (son of immigrants -> successful business owner literally the epitome of every immigrants’ dream of coming to the US), and he just has a humility that I can’t help but admire. He’s actually smart, too.

I do question how we will pay for UBI, though. The intent is right, but the execution will be interesting. I need to read more about how he plans to fund it.

Tax everyone? Funnel money from other government programs?

His most salient point that I think will resonate with most people that are empathetic towards those who are losing their jobs to automation, is his argument that by giving people $1,000/mo, they no longer have to worry about the day-to-day struggle of scraping by...with that extra money, struggling communities will literally re-build themselves.

That’s a powerful message, man. That’s hope. That’s faith. That’s the American dream.

He’s got my vote. Unfortunately, I doubt mainstream liberal media will give him coverage. He’s might actually fix things!

Although I suppose that’s what Trump supporters said about Trump back in 2016...lol, jokes on me!

Whom will President Yang, second POTUS in a row with zero political capital, network, connections or favors to call in, have to rely on if he wants to get anything on his agenda done in the political reality of Washington DC? The same uniparty Trump used.

You all know the answer and what it means.

Be nice if we had a Republican Yang, but we don't.

Fixed that for you.

And to rephrase all the questions mentioned above:

If a fuck-you candidate like Donald Trump can't get shit done because of a traitorous Congress and House that don't support his ideas, what on Earth makes anyone think that an Asian fuck-you candidate with a group of ideas that will not be supported by the Congress or the House will do any better?

If Trump can't (or won't) get it done and the inference you draw is that an outsider on the other side therefore can't get it done either then what's the point of bothering to pay attention other than to hope for the worst possible candidate to win so a civil war can finally cleanse the wicked?

Personally the only reason I have any faith that Yang could make a difference is because I no longer believe that Trump even tried.

Guys want to white knight for Donny Do-little but there's more than enough evidence that he was throwing the game all along.

Maybe Yang will actually try. The limits of what an outsider President can achieve are as yet untested in my opinion.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

UBI has a lot of strong institutional support, where as "Build the Wall/Deport Them All" doesn't.
Also, you can support Yang in public without social ostracism and potential violence.
Nobody will jump you and try to take your Yang hat, or key your car if you have a Yang bumper sticker.
So there's more room for support to grow for the idea.

I think a UBI could pass, honestly. (My biggest concern is that I don't think Boomers would support it, and they're the largest voting bloc, but you never know.)

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
The media has immense power, be it mainstream or alternative. Trump used to be beloved as a funny clown, everyone loved him but politically he was innocuous. In the space of a year he became evil incarnate in the eyes of the leftist NPCs and the savior in the eyes of the rightist NPCs - across the Western world.

If Yang really is an upset to the ruling class he will be ignored, not demonized (Trump) or idolized (Hillary). I'm guessing he will be more like Bernie and then cash out at the last minute to give way for the establishment candidate.

If I was a globalist I'd be pretty content with Trump: all talk no action (either because he can't or he won't, but doesn't matter); NPCs all riled up against him or blindly supporting him; country (and Western world) completely divided among the middle, while the oligarchs run (to) the bank.

A nationalist who does nothing for nationalism, promotes globohomo while mouthing off on twitter against it, is perfect for the ruling class: they can crack down on dissent, promote their filth and still pretend they are not in power.

So my prediction is that the Dem candidate is to lose the next election in favor of a second Trump turn. Why change a winning team?

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
From what I understand Yang is a noncathedral leftist and Trump is now a cathedral conservative.

Even if the wall is built, all immigration is stopped, and every single illegal immigrant is deported, by 2100 only 30% of under-18s will be white. This is the most white-pilled estimate since the left will actually have a singularity by around 2025, after which democrats will always win the presidency.

There will have to be some form of civil war/balkanisation, or the US will gradually become a beige mass of wage-earning consumers, and probably a relatively poor and unimportant country.

The question for heritage americans is how many resources will be transferred from them to the new arrivals in the meantime.

If the wall is built, there will be fewer illegal immigrants to transfer resources to. But the leftist singularity will probably tear it down, or just loosen legal restrictions on immigration.

The white working class will now also have to compete with AI and robotics in addition to immigrants, while having ever restricted access to white collar and government jobs.

Yang's proposal may at least keep whites, especially the white working class, above water until they fullt wake up to what has happened. Whereas there's a very good possibility that even if Trump actually fulfills his promises, whites will still be gutted and left to die.

Spandrell has a good analysis:

Quote:Democracy really is a sham; but it’s hard to go back to detachment now that Bioleninism is out in the open. Elections now are openly not about economic policy or social conservatism. Elections now are about the speed of the dispossession of white straight males. It’s for or against Bioleninism. The majority of candidates of the Democratic party are openly talking of “reparations” for black people, i.e. outright Danegeld. And don’t get me started with open hunt to mess with the sexual hormones of white children in schools. It’s going on right there in the open.

The US has an election next year, the campaign is starting now. Given the present demographic trends, it is very likely that Florida, if not Texas, will flip blue very shortly; that means a rock-solid majority for the Democratic party, forever. Donald Trump is likely to be the last white male president in American history. The 2020 election is probably going to be the last election which is more or less contested. Trump does still have a chance.

But Trump is incompetent. He’s not helping. He’s just treading water while another million Third-world immigrants sneak in, another middle-school boy gets injected estrogen because he doesn’t like football, and another hundred-thousand white men just overdose on opioids because you can’t even play a videogame today without being forced to play a black woman avatar. Can you support this guy? I sure can’t. Again, not my nation, but I wouldn’t. I won’t call him a traitor, although many have. But he didn’t build the wall. He’s letting Amazon, Facebook and Twitter campaign openly against him and censor everything to the right, and he hasn’t lifted a finger. He doesn’t deserve support.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread
Just got done watching all of this and it just made me even more impressed with Yang. He really gets it on some many things. So hard to just it all boil down into a few talking points since it helps if you see HOW the wheels turn and really understand his thought process.

The first half is more standard stuff; the second half (after the 43 min mark) is a bit more compelling and interesting since there are audience questions that vary from the the interviewers focus on campaign finance reform/corruption.. All is worth watching if you have the time I think.

Some highlights (pros and cons):

1. When pressed about abolishing the electoral college, he actually pressed against the interviewer and said he would be against it if only because it would look like the democrats acting like sore losers (true) and just lead to more conflict. That and it isn't realistic. He is also against the popular vote winner system since people would just focus on urban areas and ignore rural voters.

1a. He IS in favor of a proportional electoral voting system; like Nebraska and Maine because it would force candidates to talk to everyone from the country and not just battleground state people. (around 43 min mark)

I am VERY much in favor of this and this is why: We all talk about how if Texas goes, the democrats own the system forever. It's not a matter of if; it's when at this point. In a proportional electoral system, this keeps the GOP alive as a viable alternative for FAR more longer than the present course. This is a good thing no matter what.

2. The VAT tax would be scaled. Low-income demands (food) would be minimally taxed; yachts would take a hit. A lot of people have asked about this so I thought I mention it. It wouldn't be a 10% tax across the board on all goods.

3. He wants to cut the military a bit and put the money into infrastructure. I'm ex-military and let me tell you: The amount of fraud, waste, and abuse is insane. The system openly encourages spending every dollar available because if you don't, your budget will get reduced the next year. That and I've personally have seen selfish stupid shit like high-ranking officers staying off-base in expensive hotels with full tax free per diem and rental car when the base was 10 minutes away AND had lodging available. So many of these officers are such hypocrites: No money for needed equipment but I'll waste money staying in nice hotels when not necessary. And that's a drop in the bucket that happens ALL THE TIME and in far more severe ways scale wise.

4. One thing I'm a bit more ambivalent on is the praise for H.R. 1 since that is the House bill that would allow illegals and/or immigrants supposedly to vote but I don't know enough about it to say for sure.

5. He mentions how it's actually libertarians and conservatives that have been more open to UBI than democrats/progressives. He speculates this is the case because 1) UBI would help the former's communities and 2) the democrats/progressives are very resistant to political ideas from outsiders and non-politicians and put too much faith into politicians for solutions. If you watch the entire interview, you get a very strong sense that Yang is NOT naive about his approach and position and understands how to play the game given his cards. I told you all you had to watch out for those mild-mannered Asian dudes and not preceve them as weak by default... some real smart shitlords behind the scenes in some cases.

6. There was a VERY powerful moment where he talks about WHY he is running for President. Up until this point during his campaign, Yang hasn't really displayed a lot when it comes to range in emotions. Not robotic; just a more level headed focus on issues. This changes the game because this is not some fake misty shit that other politicians drum up when convenient; he is the real deal and actually gives a shit about America. He got a standing ovation for this bit. It's only around 2 minutes and I recommend EVERYBODY watch it.

The Yang team realized this was a powerful moment and has a clip of the moment up (with added dramatic music for full effect; it doesn't cheapen the moment in my opinion. Smart actually to highlight this). I think the original clip is better (around 1hr and 10min mark in the original video) though since there is some context with regards to his buddy who went to DC and honestly wanted to make things better but eventually ended up as a lobbyist; a lobbyist sort of embarrassed and ashamed that they sold out. Yang discusses here and throughout the entire interview the perverse incentives that is leading to people to do things they don't want to be doing, how nothing good is actually getting done, and most people are not really happy.

As I said, the dude just gets it.

I don't think expats would get YangBucks, especially if legal residents get it too. The whole impetus for this scheme is that nearly all the money gets recycled into the US economy.

For every Doritos and beer couch sloth, you have a lot of people like this guy, working two jobs while living in a van:

There are Americans who are lazy pieces of shit and would smoke away $1,000 /= all (or even most) Americans are lazy pieces of shit. Sometimes you gotta take the good with the bad, and if that means tolerating the (IMO small amount of) lazy so the (IMO large amount of) real hustlers can make something happen, well, that's the cost of living in a society that actually gives a shit about the people in it.

Also, the memes are still great. Going to try and find a watch party for the CNN town hall.

I finally went and listened to him on Rogan and Shapiro's shows, and frankly I was pretty impressed. He's got his facts down and while he's more pro-immigration than I'd like, he's the first democrat I've heard in a long time that didn't just natter on about racism and wimminz issues. I'd say he's actually a libertarian-leaning moderate, which doesn't give me much hope that he'll get anywhere in the primaries, but I still switched over to the Dems to vote for him.

So far Trump hasn't built the wall, Mexicans are still sneaking across the border, the jobs he's created are shit jobs, and he wants to let more H1-B Pajeets in. Folks are right, it's not worth getting hit over the head with a bike lock to support this guy.

According to the latest research, it looks like it might not be as dire as I thought it was, but I'm glad Yang's on top of this shit.

Great read,

here's a different article - it's a bit more simplified and straight to the point. Sam, I think you'd really enjoy this.

Though I recommend everyone to read it, you don't need to have hardcore quant skills, you'll get the general concept:

https://techbeacon.com/waiting-quantum-c...-about?amp

Ok, my take:

Yang has over 80 policies, he's going to get a few wrong. That's fine. It's a minor quibble, but for the sake of keeping the conversation at a high quality on RVF:

Yang is wrong on this one.

The US already dominates in the world of quantum computing.

The world leaders in academia are all Americans...actually in the field of superconducting qubits, it's mostly Schoelkopf's lab at Yale University and his dozens of PhD students and postdocs who are now professors in their own right across the country.

Oh, speaking of superconducting qubits, yeah IBM, Google and Intel all use superconducting qubits.

The Chinese really have nothing on America.

The last two paragraphs from Yang's website:

Quote:First, and immediately, we need to invest in and develop new encryption standards and systems, and immediately shift to using these quantum computing-resistant standards to protect our most sensitive data. This won’t be easy or cheap, but it is necessary.

Second, we must heavily invest in quantum computing technology so that we develop our own systems ahead of our geopolitical rivals.

We're already way ahead of our rivals, and in terms of new encryption standards, pretty sure NIST is already on it.

How do I know this?

Well many many years ago when I was a naive first year grad student I came extremely close to making quantum computing my field of study.

Except I learned more about the entire thing and realized its applications were extremely limited. Mostly Grover and Schorr's algorithms, which yes, can be used for decryption.

I think too many people get caught up with how cool it sounds, "quantum computing" - I was guilty of this as well. But when you look deeper under the hood, you realize it's more a cutesy trick than anything truly impactful.

Justin Trudeau did this too - he had some fake media video op where he explained how quantum computing worked. He was really proud of how smart he thinks he came across as.

A while back, some girl asked me about transportation. She'd read about researchers transporting something. I asked if she meant the quantum transportation experiment. She said yes.

Same thing, quantum transportation isn't a big deal. It's cute, but don't expect to see some Star Trek-type shit any time soon.

But yeah, it's amazing how impressed people are by the world "quantum".

When it comes to quantum computing, as the techbeacon article I linked to explains, it's not a big deal.

We've moved from one encryption standard to another in the past without much ado and people are aware of how to create post-quantum encryption protocols.

Shit, quantum computers can't do much against AES already. All we need is to go from AES-128 to AES-256 and we're fine on that front.

So these first two paragraphs from Yang's policy:

Quote:Our current AES-based encryption standards are very secure from attacks using transistor-based computers that store information in bits. It would take an inordinate amount of time to break that encryption.

However, quantum computers, using qubits, will theoretically be able to perform the calculations necessary to break our current encryptions standards in under a day
. When that happens, all of our encrypted data will be vulnerable. That means our businesses, communications channels, and banking and national security systems may be accessible.

are dead wrong.

My personal opinion - I find the threat of quantum computing to be extremely overblown.

This is one of those things that I think will go and come and most people might not even notice it. Like the millenium bug concern.

Or maybe another anology, about a decade ago I remember seeing a lot of fearmongering about nanotechnology - how governments were going to use nanorobots, how nanoparticles would cause severe pollution or health concerns, etc etc etc.

Here we are. We're fine. Nanotech didn't destroy the world.

And quantum computing, although a cool tech - and again, this is just my opinion, in the grand scheme of things, is a fairly benign technology with very little actual impact besides forcing everyone to switch encryption protocols. There are some technology that change societies completely, I don't believe QC will be one of them.

A more useful policy imo would have been dedicating money and resources to upgrading all national security-related tech. That would definitely include the electric grids...if you guys knew how easy it is to hack them, and some experts posit China and Russia already have hacked them. Would also include stuff like missile launch pads or whatever else needs a thorough evaluation of the hardware and software involved.

Anyway, really just a minor quibble.

If anything, it is a possibility Yang knows all of what I've said - his dad worked at IBM T.J. Watson Center in Yorktown Heights...that's where the majority of IBM's quantum computing research happens. It's not unlikely Yang's dad has told him QC is overrated. But from a marketing point of view, yeah he stands out as the only candidate smart enough to be able to talk about it.

So from a technical point of view, I give this policy a 2/10. From a marketing point of view, probably close to a 10/10

Yeah, I was also going to post about how the US was far away in the quantum computing R&D, I would guess a lot of the research is in the NSA and in the elite CS/Physics U. departments.

I think Yang is trying to signal his nationalism here, the main rival being China, in order to dispel the notion that he could be partial to them due to his ethnicity.

Really good point. I always forget some people believe he's partial to China.

He brings up Chinese communism in his book and disparages it. He's definitely not the Chinese commie some people make him out to be.

I also think most people won't appreciate what it means that Yang is Taiwanese. From personal experience, I know the Taiwanese really don't like the mainlanders. I've seen some bizarre stuff in research labs, with Taiwanese and Chinese researchers refusing to collaborate together, much to the absolute dismay of every white professor in the department.

Yang's parents most likely imbued him with a deep suspicion of the Chinese - I see the same with the kids of Indian and Pakistani immigrants. Yeah, the kids get along on a surface level, but the tension is always there.

Yang is extremely, extremely unlikely to cuck to China.

RE: The Andrew Yang thread

Someone asked a few pages what we would do if RoboDoc decided not to give us life-saving treatment for cancer.

First thing I would do is thank RoboDoc for actually diagnosing my cancer significantly faster and more accurately than the MDs.

RoboDoc would, unlike MDs who have no training in nutrition, also know nutrition has a much more significantly larger impact on cancer growth than my genes. Like far, far larger impact.

It's a complete embarrassment to the medical field that their top profession (medical doctors) are not required to learn nutrition in medical school.

RoboDoc would, unlike MDs, probably also nudge me in subtle ways to eat more healthy - using the same type of tech that Cambridge Analytics supposedly used to sway swing voters to Trump.

If I had to bet money on who can reverse the horrendous rates of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer we've seen the past century in the West - I would put my money on RoboDoc.

Because god knows medical doctors have completely failed at their profession.

I'm biased in favor of results. When I see a profession that is making more money year by year while their results are getting worse year by year, I have very little sympathy.

Sign me up for RoboDoc.

China is a distraction from our own internal problems. That’s why Trump and Bannon love talking about it. I don’t think Yang cares much about it one way or another and he understands that we have bigger fish to fry.

I agree with Genghis about Yang not having dual loyalties as a Taiwanese ABC (2nd gen.), but I also think he would be less likely to engage in a war with China as well, which I think is a good thing for both countries and the rest of the world.

Elon Musk replied to Andrew's tweet about the AI beating Chinese doctors.

Elon is on record for advocating for UBI. [Note that Tesla is really driving the push toward automated driving, along with Google, a company which Elon considers a significant threat to humanity in terms of their AI development].

Would love to see Andrew and Elon on Joe Rogan talking about the future.

Also,

Next time some racist asshole wants to question Yang by implying dual loyalties, I hope you don't mind if I copy and paste this as a response.

Quick edit:
WTF? If this is legit it's yet another sign of how behind the times the other candidates are.

Hold up now... China IS a serious threat and not merely a distraction. If there is one thing I'm pretty happy with right now with regards to Trump, it's his management of China, their proxy North Korea, and all the interplay associated with those two when trying to get a badly needed trade deal AND a denuclearized NOKO.

China is cunning as hell about playing the long game and they are going to pull the rug from under most of the world in the future if other nations don't check their ass right now. I watched a great video with Bannon in Japan recently that someone else posted on the forum that really gets into the details and makes compelling arguments about how much of a real threat China is. It's worth watching the whole thing.

On a side note: He also talks about Trump and the campaign a bit. It's not strictly about China. One interesting thing he says to paraphrase: "Trump is an instrument for change, but he is a VERY imperfect instrument." -- If I had to guess, I'm sure Bannon saw in the first year what we are all seeing more clearly now with regards to Trump's shortcomings/Javanka/etc.

I’ll respectfully disagree. I don’t see anything beneficial out of the trade war for average Joe. I think a lot of guys just don’t like China and wanna see it go down. Ok cool, but at the end of the day we still have Mexicans pouring across the border and insane healthcare costs. And that can’t be blamed on muh China. Meh.

That's a really interesting point. As large scale diagnostics become more accepted it's going to be really hard for the medical guilds to keep pushing their nonsense. The amount of tweaks and "corrections" they would have to make would begin to become extremely difficult.

"Where 2+ hours of sunlight per day = better cure for depression than mood-regulator drugs, CANCEL RESULT."
"Where drug-18443 is found to be ineffective, CANCEL RESULT."

At some point the amount of butchery it would take to "govern" a nation-spanning health result database would damn the people governing it.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

I love Dalio, the man is an absolute expert on macro economics as evidenced by the fact he runs the largest hedge fund in the world, Bridgewater Associates. And then there's his own person wealth of $18 billion.

Dalio's books are both fantastic reads and it's clear he understands what's at stake here. He made a linkedIN post about how capitalism is broken:

Ray Dalio, like Andrew Yang, gets it. In his book Principles, he talks about the cycle of history, the man knows what societies with extreme income inequality lead to.

I'm not holding my breath, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dalio ends up supporting Yang. That's assuming he supports anyone at all, he's been relatively politically neutral as to maximize the acceptance of his ideas.
