I'm over 50 and like to think I look 40's, which is a vast difference in twenty-something acceptability for the most part. For the more openminded girls, 40's is " [a lot] older" but 50's is "old." (There are daddy-fetish girls but screening for them is a separate issue I think.)

It seems bringing up age is a mine field. ( "A" in galnuc)

I'm guessing it's better to let them think I'm 45, their hamster will auto-adjust reality - or simply lie about my age. This is for American game where I have no intention of doing LTR anyway.

Ideas?

I'm also over 50. If asked my age I say something like "Oh, I'm like 85 or something. You are too young for me." They don't usually press the point and often they say something like "Oh I'm not as young as you think" or something like that, implying some interest.

Something like this happened when I was about 47 and the girl was about 25. She asked how old I was and I tried to put her off with "I'm too old for you." but she kept pressing until I felt I had to tell her.

The fact that the first digit is "4" I think is a big issue, but I think she was very interested, we ended up in bed together despite BF back in Boston.
