What's the best way to play this?

Tell her I'm leaving soon to encourage fast escalation.

Tell her I'll be staying for the foreseeable future.

Or just try avoiding the subject?

Yes, let it be known you're not staying long (but don't make a point of it). She probably assumes it already. Best for your odds of a one-nighter, and best for her.

Challenge yourself to see how good your Game is! Tell her, and try to get it in. If she argues that you're trying to pull a fast one, and you are, let her know that this is how you are regardless of your living conditions. Tell her you live for the moment, a man of the now, and proceed with Game to get it in. Good luck!

^ It's not actually a greater challenge. Women don't go putting out for one-nighters based on the "stick-around-y-ness" of the guy, if anything making a point about how you're sticking around will slow her down.

My thinking has changed over time on this. Some guys might say that it's ok to lie to her, but I wouldn't. While I might say you don't really need to bring it up unless she does, you shouldn't be a weasel about it and lie.

If you are a weasel about one thing, it may spill over into other areas of your life.

I'd suggest taking a bit of time reading her "buying temperature" first. You don't say how this date was lined up, but if it's from online or through social circle, essentially a "blind date", unfortunately there's no guarantee she's even gonna like ya. No point in going into your going-away routine on a girl who's not even feeling it.

If she likes you, I'd say an appropriate time to drop it would be after the first makeout. Pull back and act a little indecisive as to whether you want to move forward (of course you do.) Build tension.

If you phrase it the right way and she's still cool, great! If she gets indignant, that's a girl who would've been pissed had you hooked up with her, not told her, and gone on your way. Pissed girls can be trouble even at a distance; good riddance then I'd say.

If things go well, definitely make sure you do some "comfort game" after and she knows you'd like to see her again, even if it's not immediately possible (or even if you don't really want to.) "He totally would be my boyfriend, but it's just not logistically possible right this minute." That sort of rationalization is important for women.
