RE: My Dad is a Feminist
I've been struggling with this for the past couple of years. I have a great dad who has always supported me and would do anything in the world for me and my sister both growing up and as adults. I owe him a lot in particular for how he helped teach me the tools of the trade as far as my business goes, as I followed in his footsteps in terms of my profession/career. Whatever success I have in life right now is a direct result of the love and support my dad (and mom) have given me throughout my entire life.
Unfortunately, he's now a HUGE leftist/feminist who has SEVERE Trump derangement syndrome and spends virtually all of his free time watching CNN and MSNBC and bashing our president on social media since he's retired and doesn't have much else to do.
I don't understand how he ended up like this since he was mostly a man's man while I grew up, with a lot of masculine hobbies which we still share today. He played D-I college football and fought in the Vietnam war for Christ's sake. I can't help but agree with the OP that deep down inside I feel like I've lost a little respect for him because of his beliefs. For him it started under the Obama administration but was pretty tame, and ever since Trump came into power he's just become completely unhinged. It's horrible to watch.
He knows I'm a MAGA guy and we kind of joke about it when we see each other but otherwise we avoid politics completely. It doesn't really affect our relationship but I'll just never understand how he caught this disease.
Recently on Facebook he posted some rant about how (basically) anyone who voted for Trump is a piece of shit who deserves nothing but scorn, ridicule, and misery, yet he's well aware that I voted for him in the last election. I'll never bring this up to him course, but man.......it's so hard to read stuff like that from your own father.

It might not be that he's getting any more leftist than he was. Politics around the world since the 2016 elections (and Brexit) has been extremely divisive. There's very much a "with us or against us" attitude on both sides and has forced people to choose the side they identify the most with or take a stand against those they feel uneasy about. As far as I remember, politics during the Bush and Obama eras were more tolerant of moderates.
I'm not American, but I understand that many people were drafted into a war they didn't want to be in and sent to Vietnam. While they may have voted conservatively when they were younger in order to secure jobs for themselves (through less immigration), it wouldn't be surprising that a generation that was involuntarily sent to fight an unpopular war would be against those who promote aggressive international policies today.
My point is that blood is thicker than water and just because politics right now are extremely polarizing, it doen't mean we should let that change our views on our own family.

Here's my advice, for what it's worth: Fucking don't worry about it. Politics is pure poison, always, in any era. If you let it cloud your relationship with your dad, you'll look back and feel nothing but foolish for letting that happen.
Relationships with other people are the basis of real life. Everything else is an illusion.

I don't think you understand our politics that well, Hillary was the hawkish war candidate with extremely aggressively policies that pretty much guaranteed sending our boy overseas to fight in Syria, with a high likelihood of conflict with Russia. Trump was the peace candidate, and has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating us away from conflict with North Korea. If you've gotten the opposite view, you're watching too much Fake News.

RE: My Dad is a Feminist
Treat your dad with honor. Ignore his political views.
Think of this. What if you have a son someday and he disagrees with your politics? Would you want him to hate on you? Wouldn't it crush your soul to know that your son, who you love more than life itself, and who you would have sacrificed your own life to save in a time of danger, was despising you because of your beliefs?
Your relationship with your father is holy. Trust me, I'm a father...your dad sees every day he spends around you as sacred. When he sees you, he sees light shining in your face. Even if he doesn't always say it.
Compared to that, political views are puny and grubby and laughable.

I can't help noticing that these parents seem to love their politics more than their children.
Do what you can to love them back, regardless.
