Lived in the UK three years when I first came across him, so I just saw him as making fun of chavs and that, English people imitating American culture. Even with that, his character was more of an excuse to be a complete dummy and wind people up (See, I might have been exposed to too much English culture to give an purely American read on him, since I'm not even supposed to know what a windup is or how it differs from taking the piss.)

Don't know if black guys from the U.S. find him offensive or not, but it was my impression that despite the same language, the UK and the US are two very very different cultures, and it wasn't intended for them, it was intended for his home grown audience.

Even living there, it takes a while to figure cultural stuff out, and some stuff you never get, but when you live there, you kind of have to at least try.

I don't find modern comedians funny. It has nothing to do with politics. It is more of an asthetic thing. Borat just doesn't make me laugh. But I will laugh at Rodney Dangerfield. It seems that all modern comedians have this anger thing going on. Like the angry feminist comedian who puts down men. Borat also has the same "humor" as Howard Stern, who I also don't find funny. And all the Yiddish inspired comedians find jokes about shit to be hysterical, which makes me sick. The classical comedians would make jokes about themselves, but today they make jokes at the expense of other people. Fuck the modernists.

The thing is this - his jokes and Borat exaggerations are leaving Jews better off. He does not make fun of Jews. In Borat he stays at a small BnB led by a lovely angelic elderly Jewish couple. The only ones who come off worse are the gentiles. Even blacks are more or less neutral - except for this one time he goes to a crowd with his pants pulled down.

So his agenda is actually quite clear - make the White Christians, conservatives and some White cucks look bad - either showing them too gun-crazy, anti-semitic, homophobic etc. When he walks into a synagogue or the ADL gaslighting them, then we can talk. Even the Borat movie was a satire of backwards Kossak/Muslims/Slavs. The Bruno movie aside from promoting homosexuality makes fun of the Euro-cucks - the Austrian uber-gay Bruno. His non-Jackass movies like The Dictator made fun of Muslims and the Brothers Grimsby of the British working class.

And the guy is brilliant and highly intelligent - his comedy shown on Ali G was fantastic - all on the fly with little preparations. Back then he was more or less apolitical and just showing the madness of our world. I feel that even the stunts he pulls on feminists are not even serious.

I could never stand the guy or any of his personas, whether it was Ali G, Borat, or the more recent incarnations. In fact, I find it tough to get through any of the clips posted in this thread.

He is a skilled imitator, is quick on his feet, and has a sharp sense of timing, all virtues in a comedian. But he completely lacks both charm and character. The personas he creates are thin, they have no depth and do not grow on you. There is no joy of recognition in seeing any of them over time and absolutely no feeling of comic warmth. What he has is a shtick with a certain nasty edge and that is what people respond to.

The richness of the comedic genius of a Rodney Dangerfield, a Larry David, or the creators of the great animated shows like Family Guy and King of the Hill, is something different in kind from this type of skilled but ultimately thin and empty satire. There is more real humor -- and love -- in a single five second clip of Peter Griffin tumbling down a set of stairs than there is in the entirety of Sacha's sleazy and overdetermined clowning.

Usually the wife keeps her religion and the husband may convert if he wants.
But in Judaism, the mother has to be Jewish for the children to be Jewish.

Very true. Borat is just continuing the Hollywood tradition: (1) mocking any criticism of the faith; (2) presenting a flowery portrait of Jewish life. It's really that simple. All the elaborate manifestations can be placed neatly into these two boxes.

It reminds me of a scene in the movie Wedding Crashers that I saw last week. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn stumble upon a Jewish event and their enjoyment of the party is a ridiculous exaggeration. It's almost painful to watch when you realize how contrived it is.
