I would suggest that it's more that the real upper class (ie the, say, top .05%. That number could be off but I'm talking nine-figure net worth, private planes, scattered estates across the world, and serious connections opening the door to wealth and power) in most of Europe and parts of the United States, like most of SF and NYC, has completely abandoned western christian (i could toss a judeo in there if i felt like it) traditional values on sexual behavior. Like there literally is no room for ancient values on marriage, gender roles, socialization for the people who dictate the culture. Just observe: the leaders of germany, france, and the united kingdom are all childless - a politically unthinkable shortcoming with America's heartland voters, or in any ambitious, self-loving society (the umma comes to mind.)

I'm fairly sure that the level of transgenderism in society would be very proportional to the acceptance of polygamy, overt or covert.

The modern western world has probably the highest rate of polygamy in the history of the world. Famous men, players, rich guys, have access to hundreds if not thousands of women in a lifetime. More than any emperor save Ghengis Khan perhaps.
