The lies do add up. The funny thing is NTP did not have to lie about the boats, China, or even the 5% body fat. Had he just toned it down just a weeee bit. He would still be here. If that person he claimed was him in that good shape at the swimming pool, he would could have just flexed off of that. No need for cherries and whipped cream.

Unfortunately the lesser experienced guys are not likely to see all of this, which is the responsibility of the older members to call out issues as they see them. It's not perfect, but that's all we have for now.

Some of you guys are focusing on just one aspect and missing the bigger picture.

For example QC who focuses on the foreign legion only and missing the full picture of falsehoods, such as already proven not being a captain but (maybe) a deckhand. Yet even that doesn't fit. 8 years it was. When?

And the timeline keeps collapsing and changing.

This was what Nola originally wrote some time back about saturation diving:

We then have a broken leg, which makes Nola go back from the foreign legion to the US. He then supposedly trains a saturation diver in the Northwest, apparantly in addition to also training to become a NDT technician.

However, this is not what he now claims:

In this timeframe, which is all over the place, you also have to factor in the training to become an NDT technician (seemingly around a year), recovery from a broken leg (anywhere from a couple of months to half a year or more), then on top of that 1.5 years of actual work.

Maybe there are good explanations, maybe Nola will now drop a lot of fancy titles and certifications and the like, which he never explains, just drops and then we have to go on a goosehunt to figure it out.

Good points, Nomadbrah. It's possible that both you guys (i.e., both you and Nola) are right, but are coming from different perspectives.

Look, I have no dog in this fight, and at this point it's just all speculation on everyone's part. I've never met Nola and don't know anything beyond what he has said. I really don't give a shit one way or another: frankly I'm just disappointed that now we can't hear any of his Legion stories. I wish he had not left.

All the holes in his story that you're pointing out could just as easily be explained by someone who--for whatever reason--doesn't want to reveal too much personal detail. All I'm saying is that (1) the things he said that are within my personal experience added up, and (2) my overall impression is that this is a guy with real-world military experience.

As for all the other shit about yachts, jobs, and all that, it could be that it's all just padding, or exaggeration, or whatever. Maybe time dilation is going on.

I think what some of you guys may be forgetting is that some guys are just eccentric. Or odd. It doesn't mean they are frauds or fakes, it just means they have their own idiosyncracies.

A few people here just recently could not believe that a certain person, supposedly living in the middle of nowhere in Tasmania, would spend all his free time typing posts on the forum, even at 2:00 or 3:00 am in the morning. They were convinced that this person was a "fraud" or a "fake" or a "troll."

Turns out he wasn't a fraud, he was just an intense, high-strung, opinionated dude who likes to post at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Whatever. Some guys are just wacky like that. They just like doing shit. That's what we need to keep in mind.

No, not really. This is a stereotype, and it has some truth to it. But there is just as much truth the other way, too.

Some guys who win combat medals and have tons of experience are also embellishers and shit-talkers.

Nobody talked more shit than Richard Marcinko. Remember him? The "Rogue Warrior"? How about that Seal who lied and said he punched out Jesse Ventura? Why the hell did he lie about that, when he had all this real-world experience? The answer is because some guys are just raconteurs. They embellish shit for no reason. If more of you guys had actually been around these hard-core snake-eater types, you would know this. It's a certain breed.

How about that Navy seal sniper in Iraq? Turns out that guy also talked a ton of shit.

Forgetting about this guy in particular here, because who the fuck knows just yet; initially it seems odd that these fantasist guys would go to such length to concoct these stories yet make such elementary back story mistakes along the way.

However, eventually one realises that they keep changing their tunes like a fisherman changes his spot...they are waiting for the lie that excites the masses and garners the adulation and responses they crave. There's always one thing they hit on that whets the forum's appetite (and why I am always instantly suspicious when a new poster comes out of nowhere and suddenly is being treated like a rock star with significant rep points).

As I said earlier, I believe he served in the Legion. His information matches to a T what other Legionnaires have said on the subject, and to me is credible.

As to the other employment info or life info, I can't confirm it. The discrepancies are probably deliberate, clumsy attempts to conceal his real identity. I give them little weight.

I think this is just one of those high-performance, odd, super-achiever types who had a hard time fitting into the drudgery of the modern world.
